A small bit of dialogue that hit me the way the Bellara dialogue perhaps hit you was in the very beginning when Varric says about Solas, “Whatever he is, he's my friend.” It's so simple but with Brian Bloom's delivery it just spoke volumes. The devs get Dragon Age. If felt like we're going home you know?

I tapped out of the last bit because I want to stay strong and save Solas spoilers for when I play, but I really appreciate all these videos you've been putting out and it makes me really happy to hear that the "heart" is still there. People are so willing to kill a game before it’s even out, which can end up affecting the success of the game and cost people their job. Craze to think that when DAO dropped in 09 I was in university. I would work at a bar in the evenings and a supermarket on weekends to be able to pay for some of my fees. That year I saved up enough money to buy a PS3 around may 09 then spent the next few months saving up to buy a game and the first game I bought was DAO. This game series means so much to me and I know it’s a game but we didn’t have much as a family so when I think back to Origins I’m reminded of where I was and how far I’ve come. I appreciate your content and love your takes on Lore!

Such a wonderful thing to hear. The heart is so integral to the series and it’s why I hold these games so close to my heart even after so many other spectacular games have come out in the 10 year absence. Nothing hits quite like a good heartfelt BioWare story.

The people who go looking for problems will find them. It’s a pity so many seem so fixated on finding issues that it’s begun to overshadow their experience, and the game isn’t even out yet! I’m so excited to explore new places in Thedas, get to know new people, and inevitably cry over their stories. Because game mechanics aside, the dragon age team has never disappointed me in the storytelling department.

That's because you are satisfied with mediocrity. The only real good story telling was the Grey Warden against the Blight, while a traitor is taking the Throne in Ferelden. Also that human male character story was the best, beginning in his castle with his familly, father, mother, with the opportunity to tell her '' I love you too mother '' just before their life ended with a shocking event at night from traitors. Dragon Age 2 story is extremely boring, especially the script. Dragon age Inquisition was better, but not even close to Origins. After a while, this glowing bright green light on his hand doesn't feel believable or convincing, the Demon aspect is completely boring compare to the desire Demon from Origins taking possession of a child. The character Cassandra instead of someone like Alistair or Sten is very woke with her short hair and extremely boring discussion. The texture popping out too late at the beginning was a major turn off, while exploring the world could gave some sort of satisfaction. But the dramatic and mature feel of Origins is lacking, and the events doesn't feel human or real, compare to some traitors taking over the throne or a bunch of heroes against a blight from our own corruption.

Ghil, thank you so much for your take on The Veilguard. Out of any creator, your opinion is the one I value most because, like you, I am also obsessed with the world of Dragon Age and have been looking forward to this moment since the end of Trespasser. You have summed up what I wanted to know perfectly. Other creators have given The Veilguard stellar reviews for the most part, and while I know I'm going to love the game regardless, it felt like something was left out of most of the reviews. You hit the nail on the head and I'm thrilled to hear Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have the heart that I love to experience in this series.

I always found dragon age to be about characters and the world. How people react to thing going around them, and how they can affect it. To paraphrase the Inquisitor: “this whole mess started because of fanatics and questions about the next world. It's time people start to believe in this one.”

People gotta understand, Bioware has never been the best at graphics or combat. Where they shine is the story but mostly how the characters interact with the world within that story. Bioware has always been terribly good at endearing me to characters. I'm already looking at some like, "I will fist fight god for this little sweet pea." Then on the other hand, I'll find myself asking, "Is this person evil or did they have to make hard choices but just never stopped making those choices?" Their BIG villains have generally been incredibly nuanced and interesting. I've been playing since Origins on the 360. I lost a LOT of trust in Bioware after they abandoned Anthem... but I gotta say, this game is giving me hope that they are getting back to their roots.

Everyone know that the graphic on console were terrible compare to the beautiful armor and weapons on computers. I know it, I've got the Ps3 version and the PC version both. I think the graphics is not as bad as people pretending. I remember taking outstanding Screenshot in 2011 in 1080p, and sick movement like chopping the head off with the blood, it was very satisfying in terms of combat and graphics. You know, it's not Ocarina of Time spiky absurd graphics, while this game is praised by so many.

@@stephanmarcouxdrums4877 I'm not saying the graphics were awful, I'm just saying it wasn't what Bioware was known for. They still aren't. Their graphics weren't the best nor the worst, just kind of middle of the road. Perfectly acceptable in their wooden expressions, dead fish eyes and goofy movements. They excel in the story, which is far more important imo.

That is all I ask of the game. As long as I can get the gut punches like Alistair saying he hopes my Cousland would just think of him as some nobody who should have died with the other grey wardens and the joys like my utter exasperation with Dorian promising to “protect” me in the alternate history. From all of the media I've watched I biggest, most important question I've been asking is, did they get the people right. The thing I love about Dragon Age is the people. DA2 isn't my favorite because the gameplay was revolutionary. Obviously, it isn't. But the characters are dynamic and wonderful. I get myself invested in each one because they aren't some vague npcs that are there to pine for me. They each have their own goals and desires that we get to be a part of. You answered that question for me just now. I was already excited for the game. Knowing they got the characters right makes me excited even more.

Such a lovely video! I'm glad to hear the characters resonated with you! Character writing & romance/friendship arcs in games are vehicles for truths about the world around us, truths about our capacity for love, connection, and growth. It is, as you say, the heart of Bioware games. They excel at writing companions who feel like flesh and blood, who each have unique worldviews, motivations, struggles, and rich inner lives. @tracer.s Actually, the truth is I didn't either until recently, when he started going nuts on dragon age and rage baiting tons of people into going after them, specifically the ign videos. Have you not been to ign ones yet? If not, I would recommend not to if i were you, because they are infested and how he came on to my radar and well if you don't want people to screech about that stuff then even more reason not to go there Lol, that's simply not true. People all over the place are talking about him, including some here, and I have no alts. Nor I am the one screeching they are, it's hard to have any type of conversation that is any way that is a positive light you get attacked and or simply any conversation at all seems simply impossible. Then you have the other groups on the anti woke bandwagon who are making it even worse. Truthfully, i have had plenty of articulate conversations all over about my actual concerns about the game, and yes, it would be nice to have more of them and not constantly getting attacked by those people. Or did you ignore the one who I was responding to? Anyway, look, I have plenty of concerns too. 1. I am not a big fan of the art style, and their proportions seem off. The character designs are also kinda wonky you know the darkspawn and demons they are going to take some getting used to. 2. They distanced themselves from the tactical combat and went in a more action oriented fashion, which I can deal with since I also like aprg's to 3. They limited the number of companions, I am not a big fan of that either, but I have played other games with about the same or less. 4. I am not a big fan of the limited active abilities and would have to see how that is myself and see what kinda builds I can make 5. I am not a big fan of them putting trans stuff in it, but I plan to ignore it. 6. Some of the body sliders don't seem to do to much There is even more, but over the past few weeks, my concerns have lessened, and I am leaning towards buying it, but I want to see reviews

Thank you so much Ghil! It's so great to hear from fellow Dragon Age fans that have played the game and not from the near endless stream of cynical grifters who have never played DA. I'm a newer fan of Dragon Age and what captured me was the heart of the games. Graphics and combat won't make up for a lackluster story or a lack of passion from the devs. Heart in a game is the passion and care that devs and writers pour into it. So encouraged to hear that Veilguard is a continuation of DA's " heart" !

You and Kala are the only ones i 100% trust when covering this game. Your joy for the game is infectious & just gets me more excites. I've been a fan since origins. It was never about combat or any of the other things people complain about. Not for me. For me, it was the writing and characters that kept me coming back until now. The world is stunning, the characters seem complex and interesting, and the story is intriguing. That's all i need to know. Thank you for all of these wonderful videos you've put out. It must have been so exciting to play DA:V. I'm so interested to hear your thoughts when we can finally all discuss the big story moments.

You are comepletely allowed to enjoy whatever you want, including this game and content creator but it's out here on the interent for ANYONE to find, not just you and people like you. With every game BioWare has departed further and further from that and Ive made my peace with that. Honestly at this point I just want closure to the massive cliffhanger trespasser left us on, and if we get a good game on top of that, all the better. I have BG3 to scratch my origins itch anyway. Might as well get a cool action rpg with veilguard as an added bonus

@chilihunter7392 Not all gamers are pro LBGT stuff. And because of our beliefs, we get the label of "hateful". The issue is having a political agenda horseshoed into a fantasy game we've enjoyed all of our life because it helps you escape the political polarized world we live in. It's classic EA "shut up, we don't care about your input. We'll make what we want, we know you'll buy it anyways" Spitting in the face of their supporters.

@koshetz because it wasn't one of the main marketing points. Gay relationships aren't what people are upset about. Don't change the point. It's the surgery scars primarily that people are upset with. It's great to hear that this game gets the heart of Dragon Age, character and storytelling that hits your heart strings. I'd argue such things as why Bioware games in general are memorable the way they are, be it Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic or The Old Republic MMO, Jade Empire. The characters and how they interact with the story is why I fell in love with these games. The original trailer left a really sour taste in my mouth, especially after such a long wait for an official reveal to the game I had been waiting since 2015, but the marketing material released after the first trailer certainly changed my mind on the game. I still prefer the more realistic art-style of Inquisition as opposed to this cartoon art-style, but the environments and characters look gorgeous for the most part (sometimes the Qunari definitely can look weird compared to the other races but Kala's recent video on them eased some of my concerns, I still wish they looked as good as they did in Dragon Age II but alas), I'll also miss the more tactical gameplay of previous games but the new gameplay looks pretty fun. I'm looking forward to customizing my build and seeing how it interacts with the new combat system, I love ARPGs and it looks like Veilguard's combat will have what I'm looking for when it comes to ARPG combat. Which is a fluid combat system, good build variety and good bossfights (it remains to be seen how well made the bosses are in Veilguard). I won't be able to play Veilguard myself until I can buy a new PC, but I look forward to seeing gameplay of it once it releases. I'm very excited about this game, and it looks like it'll be the Dragon Age I've wanted since 2015. I won't even bother adressing the online outrage about it, once the grifting cycle on DAV is over those people will be gone and we'll be able to have our fandom for people who actually like Dragon Age.
