These kettles were invented in the 1890’s by Irish fishermen. They can easily boil water outdoors using twigs or other small materials.

When I got my kettle in the mail, I didn't think anything of the packaging, I just figured the retailer I got it from sold it unboxed and repacked it using whatever they had laying around. Now seeing their very own tinsmiths packing them by hand exactly the way mine was, I realize how practical and modest this company is, not relying on flashy labels and expensive boxes to sell their products, just simple, honest old world craftsmanship.

A nice box is nice, but that's it. It's cool to see, but then when you're done you look at it and think "how much extra did I pay for that stupid ass thing" I'd rather pay a premium for a good product, and company that pays their people well.

This brand is called "Camping Kettle" for anybody interested. The one featured in this video seems to be the aluminum anodized version. This one is $89.00 They have 2 other versions, a more compact "mKettle" and "Hard anodized aluminum", both cost $99.00 each They have a really great looking frontier stove for $300 which I have no idea how it's so cheap, considering a garbage grill from Walmart is $200 these days.

Typical of 'How it's made'. Despite this being another famous Irish invention, 'How it's made' shows a british-made Kelly/Ghillie Kettle. The presenter seems to be always very bigoted towards the Irish.

It's more likely the case that the British "Ghillie Kettle" company approached the Canadian TV programme makers, realising the marketing opportunity. When this show airs in the UK, it's an English guy doing the narration - there may be some sort of production arrangement between the Canadian and Brit TV channels. I've heard that "Kelly Kettle" may have their manufacturing done outside of Ireland, these days. If true, that might explain why they couldn't exploit this marketing opportunity. In Britain, these kettles are MOST DEFINITELY regarded as Irish. Personally, I favour the (original) "Kelly Kettle" brand, especially given their provenance and recent innovations and developments.

Ghillie Kettles are still hand made in England. Kelly Kettles are made in China now and cost more.

This is sooooo wrong - this so called "invention" was known in Russia for centuries as SAMOVAR!!! What a scam.
@GodsOwnPrototype
@GodsOwnPrototype 2 жыл бұрын
I think that if the video has been titled/advertised as being about making Samovar there would be even more uproar about how this wasn't Samovar. Granted the Samovar seemed to innovate the technology but this a particular variant of it.
@simonsignolet5632
@simonsignolet5632 2 жыл бұрын
No scam. And you're VERY wrong in your assumption. Both use fire and both use a chimney. But that's as far as the similarity goes. If you've used a traditional samovar and one of these kettles invented in Ireland in the 19th Century, you'd know the difference. With a Kelly Kettle, you'll have drank your hot drinks BEFORE you've gotten halfway through merely PREPARING your samovar... I won't knock the samovar, it has its place in Russian culture. But for the outdoorsman who's used each, the Kelly Kettle is the FAR better option every time.
