Mee Siam's yellow coloured bee hoon is due to the tamarind. It gives a distinct flavour and taste. And this char siew stall has been in Ghim Moh for more than 40 years. The couple came from Hong Kong and started the stall here. You should take shots of the chwee kway stall. They made their own chwee kway and the stall has been around for 40 years.

BIG THANKS!! for this video. Nice to see so many of the old hawkers still around and doing well. Jiu Jiang Shao La uncle is actually very nice and friendly if not busy. All his roasts are done at the stall itself. All the muslim stalls have been there almost from the start of the Hawker Food Centre. Would be nicer if there was sufficient time to include the other (65% ?) of hawker food stalls. Thanks once again!!

Great that you now have the 3D aerial view to kick off every video. NIce touch, love it! Watched both Ghim Moh videos and the hawker food there looks very delicious and so many different stalls with all my favorites. Lucky for those who live there! Love the mee siam, hmmm, what do they use to make the bee hoon noodles orange in color? Yes, chee cheong fun, my favorite. Love that steamer, so quick and easy to use. This stall is easier to operate than those that have to prepare 20 over dishes to serve with rice, bee hoon, noodles. Wow, that chai tau kway lady is so generous, such a big serving in a packet....love the one with the black sauce....givemegivemegiveme!!! You are getting popular now, hawkers are giving you more free food! The roast duck hawker really knows how to operate the cleaver...love this hawker center....yum!😁👍🤣

Haha Liz.. you have very sharp observations.. all the things you mentioned were seconded by other locals.. like the carrot cake.. someone commented that Jenny is always generous w her portions.. someone said Chee cheong fun handed down from old Aunt.. Mee Siam orange is becoz of tamarind.. and I found that many HK roast chefs adopt that same unique clanking of the clever. Maybe it's to help with the feel of the grip. 😂 Enjoy your weekend Liz.. hope you're enjoying every moment recreating some yummy dishes 😋

Hi Piggy, I like to watch the wet market scenes at the beginning of this video - so lively market stall sellers shouting out their wares like marketing in the good golden days without the use of technology ;-) Market stalls are just as crucial as hawker food stalls - all play a part in Singapore's food heritage and history. Well done, once again!

On the eastern seaboard of Australia, Victoria etc, they call a similar species "Yabbies", in Western Australia they call them "Gilgies". However these one's at this singapore market are Neither..!! what they are is "Red claw crayfish", found predominantly in tropical Queensland and Northern territory waters. the asians are crazy for them, especially Hong kong etc. there is quite a big aquaculture business in Temperate regions of Australia for these. Love Singapore, it's a great place..!! John, Perth, western Australia

Strongly agree. It is something I always had to do myself independently. Mind you, I still have to check out the map to work out nearest the MRT station etc. BTW Do you plan to do actual tours when the current situation resolves itself? A day out with you on a tour of the hawker centres could be fun (particularly if it takes in street art). Further, is there an Singapore app to get oneself from here to there as quickly and simply as possible by public transport? Oh, so you are an Ozzie after all?

To reply you, yes i love the wet market scene, more of it would be great. Would be even more educational for the younger generation of working ladies if there are prices of different leafy greens per kg, different types of fish prices, different cuts of pork and their prices. I realised many people do not go to wet market not just because its hot, but because its intimidating with the various types of items, the fast pace, and also because of the lack of familiarity of pricing. When i first start to shop at wet market i was very intimidated and shy to ask for the prices for a kg of kailan or chye sim, or the type of fish and the prices, because theres no info no label and i feel very ignorant and in their way. If these info were given, many people would at least have a slight idea where the prices fall under, and maybe encourage more people to shop at wet market because their produce are so fresh
