After seeing about 300 videos similar to this, I wonder has anyone done research into whether the night observation lights and camera movements/noises attract predators to these nests? It's almost as if you've put a spotlight on them in the center of an otherwise dark forest and in neon lights have a sign that says "FREE FOOD HERE". I bet the nearby nests, the ones without lights and cams pointing them out to the entire potential predator universe, have much higher success rates.

@@ArleneBeechHomebird Hi Arlene, Perhaps...unless there are predators that sense Infra Red. I am positive, however, that the cameras are making sounds not audible to the human ear that mammals and birds can readily hear. Hopefully humans are not making these nests targets for predators, but if a predator notices whenever there are certain lights/sounds food is around (animals can be very clever and adapt to new stimuli) observation nests and the equipment involved may attract more predation than normal. Thanks for the kind response.

Maybe that's normal for an osprey of that age (it is, after all, still pretty young), but I myself have never seen that behavior in a bird that is healthy and as far developed as that one was (usually they can sleep with their head up, perhaps tucked under a wing, like an adult bird). Then after that, it sure didn't have much ability to fight. Young birds of prey are usually quite powerful when defending themselves, even if badly wounded. It never had a chance of course, but I expected it to fight harder and it barely even moved. No wing-flapping, nothing.

I've been told that eating rice and beans gives a complete protein that is essentially the same as any meat protein; both groups need additional plant foods to provide necessary vitamins and minerals. Eating nothing but meat doesn't provide everything you need. Eat Right for Your Type by D'Adamo discusses why some people should be vegetarians and some should not.

It all comes down to the structure of the owls’ flight feathers. There is set of little spines/ribs along the outer edge of the feathers that softens the air before actually meeting the body of feathers, providing a very stealthy glide and wing beat. It became necessary due to their main prey (rodents and lagamorphs) having excellent hearing. It just happens that it’s an excellent adaptation for hunting everything else as well.

@frankmorse79292 жыл бұрын
@Gary Ramirez. I am very well into and acquainted with Falconers in Florida and in New York & it's quite the opposite actually. Ghos specialize in hunting from behind on silent feathers & usually at night. Diurnal Raptirs that falconer use like Red Tailed Hawks and Goshawks are hunted with in the daytime, when the hawk has the advantage. & if the hawk/ falconer are seasoned & have been doing it for some time , it is the hawk that can give the gho an extremely hard time as These hawks are also fighters and can see the owl. I've seen proof of incidents where ghos were killed. I have photo proof of a young female Red Tailed Hawk that killed an adult female Gho. All talons from both of the owls- skull and face- crushing the owls skull bone structure causing hemmorage & a quick death. Both of each of the Hawks longest talons, the halux claws were each stuck deeply into both of the owls eyes. Excellent kill & very quick. The owl didn't even have a chance. I will gladly share the image.
