Simply the military in rebbot is work in organize and branches and aint no away 1 General rank get away with mercenaries company killing off biggest and well known task force and also 1 task force saving the world with few peoples is just super unrealistic without any contact of official. In reboot Ghost is far more experienced and skilled than original compared fight scene and Shepherd is just desk sitiing just like how General suppose to be, that's why Shepherd in reboot fled when things goes red. Ghost will eat Shepherd easily in reboot. And most of people blinded by nostalgia just cause original ghost is badass in glimpse of their childhood or teenage memories, doesn't mean he's better than current ghost we have here, his stories in comic is quite interesting tho.

Ghost also has a pretty messed up backstory, not sure if that stays true in the reboot. But basically his mom died when he was young, he had a very abusive father who even forced him to watch a prostitute die from an overdose. He joined the army after 9/11 and the fighting also took a heavy toll on with squadmates dying and such.

Yoooo you can actually explain Ghost's vocal change from 1 to 2 by that gun shot. Shepherd shot him point blank right above the collar bone. That'd go right through, especially with a pistol cuz those bitches pack more punch than you'd think. That would've completely fucked his neck and probably broken his collar bone, making him need surgery upon rescue. It's possible the vocal rasp in 2 comes from that shot because, while they were able to keep him alive and repair the damage, they couldn't fully repair everything including his vocal cords. It's probably not that deep and was totally accidental but it's super cool.
