Just found this band and I love it. I've always loved metal it's just hard to find artists/bands that have that intense music but aren't always growl scream voice (I like it sometimes but I think it has a time and a place. Jonathan Young imo is really good at blending beautiful vocals with the growl voice to make awesome songs) Such intense instruments paired with a lovely voice. Usually metal singers have deeper voices but I really like this guys voice it adds a certain je n'ai sais quoi to it. Best way I can describe it is like a gothic romance. His voice is the soft feminine part and the music is the overall dark setting. Love it so much I just started listening to this band so if anyone has song recommendations that'd be appreciated

This song...As a Christian, I have a love/hate relationship with this song (and the band in general). This song is just amazing even though I know what it's about. I think the problem is that those Christians who try to condemn people for their beliefs or what they do are playing into Satan's game. The line "I know your soul is not tainted even though you've been told so" really sums it all up. Satan has infiltrated Christianity in such a way that it's seen as more evil than Satan himself and that's the way Satan wants it. He wants people to feel abandoned and cast out by the church (whether it's the Catholic church or some other denomination) so they can be opened up to him like this. This is a beckoning to someone who is lost because they feel abandoned, because they have been told that they are wrong or evil. Yes, this is sung from Satan's point of view (or Lucifer, if you believe that Satan and Lucifer are the same entity) but it illustrates the problem with people who think they are Christian but who aren't really following it as they should. This is like a warning. This song also reminds me of NIB by Black Sabbath. It's about the devil falling in love, which is supposed to be ironic because the devil is incapable of love. Ghost reminds me a lot of Black Sabbath but kicked up a notch. I know it's all supposed to be a show and Tobias is an actor playing a part, just like Ozzy was. However, I'm disturbed to some extent, maybe because I like Ghost's music but the lyrics are sometimes hard to hear. And if you hear this song without knowing the context, it wouldn't be so disturbing. I could also compare this to Kamelot's "Descent of the Archangel" as it's about Lucifer tempting the main character of the story told in Epica and The Black Halo. Although, these concept albums are based on Faust, which depicts Lucifer/Mephisto as an evil entity while Ghost glories him. So I'm torn because the music is SO good but the lyrics bother me.

Interesting that the people in the comments interpret the song as the devil talking to a girl, when in reality it is a religious authority (Judeo-Christian church or a sect) speaking to a person who does not know how to distinguish between empathy and manipulation, all disguised in a nice love song.

The song is awesome, but I really love how the album cover art is just Darth Maul vs Sally from "A Nightmare Before Christmas" vs "Silence of the Lambs"

IDK if anyone has said it, but this reminds me starkly of the Silence of the Lambs poster- the one with Clarice Starling's face and a butterfly over her mouth? It's even more similar because the butterfly on that particular poster has Dali's "In Voluptas Mors" on the butterfly, where this one has Ghost's stylized upsidedown cross logo. (Of course they could both just be influenced by In Voluptas Mors but, whatever.)

It is influenced by the poster. And I think it's not a butterfly, more like a beetle. Great art anyways!

Best part of the song has to be the Guitar and Bass when they say "Can you hear the rumble?" I'd worship Satan if I got music like this, guaranteed.

how is this satanic? i keep seeing comments or mentions of them being satanic. i dont here any of that in their lyrics. the greatest thing about lyrics is they can be taken in any way of the listener. for instance, i hear a sad song when i listen to this. not a satanic song.

song is about the devil convincing you to give your soul to him. also, no that dissent mean the band is satanic, the members' beliefs are unknown and their statism (as far as we know) is just for show

If you just take the lyrics, it could be the story of having a history, struggling, pain, shame, and being supported despite, or even because of it. The speifics you can make up yourself, but it is clearly a song about someone seeing someone else as they truly are, someone loving or caring for someone. Of course the image of the band is of an over the top charicature of Satanism, but that doesn't really matter to the song itself, nor the message it conveys. I am guessing most people in the area of the world I live understand that they are not actually satanic, they are just having fun with the image, but it seems from the comments, that some Christians in the US actually think they are truly worshipping Satan. It is very clear to me that they are probably non-religious in real life, and don't believe in Satan or God. By they by: Lucifer is probably not really a fallen angel, if you go by the Bible, the Torah, The Jewish Apocrypha or Gnostic Evangelics. Lucifer is the latin name for Venus, and means "Light Bringer" but is also know as the "morning star", and a passage in the King James version of the Bible gives this title to a mortal king of Babylon, not an angel. In this text it is the king who is described to have fallen so low, from the highest heigts, not the Angel. I am not a religious man anymore, but if I were, I would see that Lucifer the Angel has been done a great wrong by labeling him a fallen angel, and connecting him to Satan. Now Samael is another angel we are not sure about is fallen or not, based on the texts we have. His name literally means "Poison of God", and is seen at the accuser, which can be translated to Satan, so my bet is that Samael is a more proper candidate to be the fallen angel that became the devil. Read Book of Isaiah, verse 14 onwards. "Your pomp is brought down to Hell, and the noise of your harps; maggots are spread under you, and the worms cover you. How are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!" Hell is not a part of Christian or Jewish mythology, Hell is a part of Norse Mythology, and Lucifer is Latin, not Hebrew. Now lets check a more correct translation: "Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, the sound of your harps; maggots are the bed beneath you, and worms are your covering. How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn!" As you see, the original Hebrew is Sheol, which is the realm of the dead in Judeaism (where everyone go before judgement day), which coincidentally is close to the realm of death in Norse mythology, Hell, but not the fiery sulphorus pits outside new Jerusalem, which is what people think of when you say hell. This whole misunderstanding started with a Pope, that read that passage, improperly translated, and thought that Lucifer the Angel, was the one they were talking abnout, not the Babylonian King that the text is really about.

It's about Satan understanding how you feel instead of God and saten starts to talk to a girl and shit
