Well, for me this song sounds like a sad message from Papa to us. He repeated many times "i'm with you always". But in the end of the song he is silent at that lyric, like he realises that he is lying. "When the summer dies" could be a hint that Papa will die at the end of the european summer tour It's like a last kiss from him

It's meant to be sinister, not sad. It's kinda like Cirice in that he's promising everything you want, but the undertone people are willfully ignoring--because that's the point-- is that the "love" that Papa offers you is not good for you, and will be the end of you.

DATHOML plays a huge part in current fan theories on stuff like the end of Papa IV ("When the summer dies", the end of the summer tour this year) and in one chapter Copia is seen listening to a song called "Hang the Pope" connecting to "Severing the ties". It is suspected he will be replaced, and Tobias keeps leaving us little things hinting at it. One theory that I hope is true is that Papa III is still alive and will come to take revenge on Copia. On their last tour there were scratches INSIDE Terzo's casket, and in the chapter where I, II, and III were killed Terzo's foot is seen to twitch. Yes, post-death muscle spasms exist, but what would be the point of leaving that in for the sake of a small detail like that? We don't know, no one ever knows, Tobias has stated before that sometimes even HE doesn't know. That's the fun of it all, rage and interest!

You can get the tone of the main melody on an Ovation electric steel string acoustic with the right amp. I'm convinced it's a guitar and not keys/harp/harpsichord.

this song isn't about what most people probably believe it's about, and the meaning is on Genius I think (and confirmed by Tobias iirc). it's kinda from the pov of the type of ppl who claim to love u and want the best for u, but they're doing this from a place rooted in hatred or disgust. So like "I love u, but I want u to stop what ur doing bc it's disgusting to me", like y'know the "love the sinner, hate the sin" type if that makes sense? this song is hugely important to one of my friends who is gay and in the closet bc their family is religious and very anti-lgbt but claim the "hate the sin, love the sinner" stuff

This one is gorgeous tho the meaning is a bit darker than it looks. If I ever see it live I think I might cry 🥲. That stringy sound is a harpsichord if I'm not mistaken.

DATHOML killed all of the love I had for Ghost. There are fingersnaps in this song. I'd say that this is the worst Ghost song, but I'd be halfway lying. Because this is The Worst song ever. Don't give me the "tongue in cheek" excuse. This is just a bad song. Fucking fingersnaps. Finger. Snaps. This is Imagine Dragons but goth. I despise this era of Ghost. I despise when people pretend that this is a good song. I despise anyone who takes offense at this. If you want a good ballad, it's called He Is.
