Sure someone beat me to this but in Kaisarion you can hear them say “HYPATIA” who was the first female philosopher in Ancient Greece was killed by Christians cause she was a pagan. There’s more to it but just thought it was cool Tobias made a song about her….or referencing her!

Insane statement. Meliora still hasn't been topped. Impera doesn't have one lead single banger that drives the record. Meliora easily had 4 main singles and staple hits forever. Most of these impera songs are commercial pop rock arena tracks. Very bland and predictable. Call me Sunshine is the only song close to a real Ghost track and would've just been an awesome 3rd single on a better album

Imperium is such an incredible way to open this album and it all comes full circle in the end which makes it even more beautiful! Kaisarion is just a certified banger and I can't help but sing along to it.

This instrumental segueing into the first full song reminds me of Judas Priest's "The Hellion" & "Electric Eye", and that scream during the intro to "Kaisarion" is definitely reminiscent of Rob Halford on "Screaming for Vengeance". I'm also reminded of "We are the Ocean" and "The Battle of Paridas" by Pyramaze (Disciples of the Sun, 2015) and "Ashes" by Threshold (March of Progress, 2012)

When they played it live the backing vocals during the chorus was made so epic by the female backing vocals. I wish they kept that for the studio version. Otherwise this song rules!

"Imperium" hits me a cross between Avenged Sevenfold and "Black Album" Metallica (think the first 30 seconds of "The Struggle Within"). Ghost really seems to be paying homage to a lot of their influences and contemporaries. And I'm here for it. This may be the best album they've put out (it's hard to jump Meliora and Prequelle, though).

The song’s even better if you’re familiar with the context of the lyrics. Look up the story of Hypatia (which is what the female ghouls were singing in the chorus of their live performance) then go back and reread the lyrics👍🏻

Kaisarion is a bastardisation of Caesareum, the temple of Hypatia. The early Christians burned that down after they raped, defiled, and murdered Hypatia. “Jesus loves you” Tobias also mentions how Christians burned down the Library of Alexandria, which held the pinnacle of human knowledge of ancient records. They do that to a lesser degree to this day, by book burning.

My brother introduced me to this band after listening to dance macabre but this album has well and truely got me into ghost. They are definitely my favourite band at the minute unbelievable album imo.

I believe to enjoy this album it should be on a fine tuned turntable with a bitching receiver and speakers. I order 2 color version and bought a 3rd copy to listen to it yesterday night. Let me tell Kaisarion needs the same set up they do it when they sing live but besides that the drums and the uniform unison in the intro is so Maiden meets Rush.

Great review and you remind me of the way I was when I listen to an album for the first time. Like you said you can never go back so we really appreciate that you experience it with us. Next Album that comes out I'm not going to listen to any pre release songs as I have to say hearing four of the songs ahead does take away from the experience. My first Ghost experience was Prequel and I had only heard Rats so it was more of an experience than this time around. Thanks man and can't wait to see your reaction to Watcher in the sky!!

It's very interesting that Kaisarion was written by Joakim Berg, the former singer of Kent, a Swedish band that stopped their career in 2016. Kent is still my favorites and I hear some things in the song that remind me of Kent. Griftwood has struck me the most atm!

@@Paincakes Kent is the farthest from Kaisarion you can imagine. Shocked it's written by him. I'd describe Kent' s sound as melodic feel-good and melancholic nostalgia pop.

Prog metal is my favorite genre of metal, so IMPERA is definitely my favorite Ghost album so far (only a new fan who started digging in after hearing Mary on a Cross), and it does my absolute FAVORITE things in music where the intro references the final song. It was amazing with Soldier Side from S.O.A.D's Mesmerize and Hypnotize albums, and it's fucking awesome here with Imperium and Respite on the Spitalfields. I dont think there's a single song on this album that I dont love, though Kaisarion, Spillways, Griftwood and Respite are my top ones.

I do not follow any band except for some prog bands as Tool, Karnivool or Porcupine tree nowadays. But Ghost pleasently surprised me with their turn / return to the 80s prog arena! I've just finished the whole album on my way to work. The only regret is that the album was a way short for me (I got used to 10-20 minut prog stuff)

Call me crazy but I can imagine Rush performing Kairsarion. My only beef with the song is that I would have liked the female backup singers signing "Hypatia" not male voices. Also I really wanted Papa to wail "HELLLLLLLLLLL" late in the song. The live version had these. But I LOVE this song regardless.

Now I wonder WHO does that "80's yell" at the start of the song "Kaisarion"? I'm not quite sure that it would be Tobias (aka Papa) but, it sounds like a guy in "falsetto". The whole CD is just great in my opinion. The music is so varied in sound, it's a real treat to anybody who grew up in the 1980's (1970's too) and younger people like it too. I hope they keep on making new music for a long time. They aren't for everybody though. The whole "satanic" image and lyrics are a bit off putting for many people. A guy that used to come around all of the time has recently stopped coming around to my house. And, right before he stopped coming around we had been in my car, and I had Ghost playing in my CD player, the song "Year zero" was playing, you know, "Hail satan, archangelo"! And, he said "are you into satanic music?" and I said "I love the music, but, I don't worship satan" and "I don't take it all seriously!". BUT, this guy who had been previously coming around almost DAILY, has not been here for about a whole week!!! He said that he had the flue, and maybe he did. But, I may have scared him off!!!! It would NOT be so bad IF he doesn't come around anymore anyway. He seemed to come over to be fed by me anyway. He would ALWAYS ask for food, IF I had no leftovers, he's ask to "bum a sandwhich". And he always (even at 10 PM) say how he "had'nt eaten anything ALL DAY". And, he's a diabetic, and I am too, and you are supposed to take your pills with food. And, that would be 2 times a day. He gets food stamps, so WHY isn't he making sure he eats right? ANYWAY, my point is that, I MAY have scared him off!!! OR he is just sick with the flue OR COVID??? He did have it once and gave it to me back in 2021. He is a bit "different" in how he thinks, SO, maybe hearing my devil music COULD have made him think that I am REALLY into satan? Anyways, I'm sure many reading this are thinking, "Ummmm... who cares???" But, anyhow, that is my comment.

I liked the look with the silver Mask´s better than the actual with those Gasmasks. Tobias Stage Suit looked also better than the actual. But that´s only my Opinion. They seperated the Ghoulettes now on Stage left and right besides the Drumkit. I also liked them better sitting together. The Ghoulettes are so cool with all the backing Vocals and Keyboard Work they do. They should get an own Song where they sing Mainvocals and Tobias does backing. Impera does rock they delivered an AMAZING Record that´s for sure.

Unfortunately the wooden maze won't ship till July. The record shipped that was supposed to be Metallic copper but it is Yellow Marble looks yellow red and orange. Idk if they will end up replacing them but I hope so tbh. Hope that Yellow marble will be rare in the future

Y'all be trippin' ;) IMPERIUM is an almost note for note parody/homage to the intro of Metallica's BATTERY. :D That's what everyone is remembering, its' the opening to the MASTER OF PUPPETS album! Hehehe. I actually wish someone would compile a list of the obvious homages Tobias has put in this album. GRIFTWOOD is such an intense tribute to Van Halen its not funny. There's the Nik Kershaw/Supertramp influence in SPILLWAYS. People claim they can hear Bon Jovi and Cinderella in a few tracks, some RATT as well and a few other things.

HELLO AGAIN MY DEAR FRIEND I have already listened to this new album and the truth is that I just didn't enjoy it completely this new album, yes there were a couple of songs that I like, this album seems to me is just listening to 80s metal songs such as Bon Jovi, quiet riot and WASSAP. even has a little a bit of glam metal. such a great example is spillways, is like lisent runaways by bon jovi I think tobias just copy the keyboard sound in that song and put in this new track I think is a great song but not my favorite . the only song that I like is CALL ME LITTLE SUNSHINE , HUNTERS MOONS , WATCHER IN THE SKY AND DOMINION THE INSTRUMENTAL . so far in my opinion are the only heavy metal song that I lisent from ghost , so far the songs that i just mention before are not only the best song of IMPERA album , but the best songs from the whole discography of ghost my score is a 7/10 solid . KASAIRON is not a bad song but i feel is to cartoonish for me sounds like a anime soundtrack whit a little bit of iron maiden the troop but more commercial . i like the album but is not my favorite !!!! cheer up and keep going with your content i like it

The transition to Kaisarion is so underwhelming. Imperium and the rest of the album is so good! The verse in Kaisarion is kind of ruining the song :( If it had been in the middle of the album i've probably could've ignored it
