Ok here is the perspective of someone who didn't see the original until few minutes ago and just knew the 2017 adaption: When I was in the theatre I freaking loved the intro & the music, I think it is an amazing opening by itself BUT seeing the opening of the original few minutes ago kind of made me understand how people are feeling about it. The original score is a tremendous piece of art and conveys this strange religious larger than life feeling, its like witnessing human becoming god through their creation. Now seeing THIS gave me shivers. I can't understand why they didn't go with it. I still love the official 2017 version but this here is simply on another level. I also think that this movie really isn't the worst anime adaptation even though they could have made it something truely special if they dared to, but hollywood played it safe...
@f.g.5967 Жыл бұрын
The hollywood movie was as a movie ok. The anime was a cornerstone in cyberpunk often mentioned as source of inspiration for dozens of books, comics or movies, the Matrix included. So yeah. I agree with you.

Had they done this, the movie would have gone from a 6/10 to a solid 8/10. It's a decent enough adaptation for what its worth, but the misuse of the classic GITS "chanting" theme was by far my biggest complaint. Why stick that in the end credits? Just... why?

Personally, speaking on behalf of someone (I) who bought the Bluray disc and the wall poster at the cinema, I would say that from 1:47 to 1:51 there is a level of art that approaches the anime. The other parts on the entire sequence are not enough to compete. It would cost much more to keep the same quality/pace as Oshii's animation.

Something that I did not like in this adaptation was the music for making of a cyborg (like many of us). In the animated movie its music is mostly vocals with ancient (to some) and natural instruments. It offset the very mechanical and cyber-aesthetic of the visuals of a mock birthing scene. I'd describe it as a celebration of a birth. A tribe elated at a new and healthy child. This one though... it just felt too mechanical, as well as generic (it has that baseline of every epic/ trailer for a sci fi setting ever). There are some strings for a more natural sound, and even a few seconds of quiet chanting. It makes it all seem way too generi and artifical for my liking. In a way it's too modern and "western" when it was a Japanese story written and made by Japanese people.
