I started building this for a miniature contest and took more pictures than videos of the process.
I started with a Playskool pirate ship and made four legs out of sculpey with an armature of aluminum foil. The legs were inspired by Baba Yaga's chicken leg hut. I finally used my clay conditioner machine I have had for years, it made the sculpey work so much easier. The arms are from a dragon toy I took apart and attached with hot glue.
I then took my vast quantities of Crayola model magic and covered the entire ship in tiny bits, making the tendrils.
The deck of the ship also needed a layer of model magic as well, and I realized the ship was most likely a living creature itself, so potentially a mimic. I will need to make more of these.
Traditional painting will take more time then I currently have, so we have an alternative method I used on a few ceramic pieces last summer. I have a few layers going. The first is a matte Mod Podge over the foam bits, just incase the accelerant in the spray paints react weirdly. I followed that up with Pintyplus Evolution Water based Spray paint Black.
I like to prime most of my miniatures in black in case I miss something in the paint job it will look more like shadow than mistake. I followed with a turquoise from the Montana Black line and a Krylon copper to get that metallic look. I need to pick up more liquid acrylic turquoise for some touch ups but the process was a fun experience.
