Joe Brumm on the "Gotta Be Done" podcast said that they scanned back through previous episodes to find elements that could be called-back in "The Sign": "But it was nice just to scan back to the previous seasons and just find those elements because what it means for the kids watching is... the whole episode on one level is about all those little things that happen... I scanned back a bit and tried to fill those gaps in. And then, you know, it was kind of perfect. Winton's dad and the terrier's mum... my layout department has been setting that up for three seasons we knew he had a pool and it all just kind of worked out." The buyers wanting a pool was the first idea, and the team connected it to Winton's dad having a pool, and it all fell together.

The pool callback from Helicopter is probably the best one because it is objectively the most important one. The payoff between Cornelius and the Terriers' mum is still the best part for me. Having two half siblings (not that I've ever thought of them that way), the blended family rep was always going to be important to me, but I assumed going into The Sign that it was just going to be cute background payoff (something you say neat, that was cute, but isn't really important) and the episode would move on. Instead, it was both the backbone and the heart of the episode, and it was so well earned.

@@aussiegirlmargie i absolutely love and admire that you are exercising caution and restraint when considering the idea of getting a heeler pup! as cute as those things are, they are a LOT of work - especially if you don't live on a farm. because of bluey, a lot of people are getting them without doing proper research and unfortunately most of them wind up in the pound for being hyperactive and nippy - both of which they were bred to be. odd and sad that they get punished for that!

My favourite reference is the bluey album. I went crazy when I saw that one. I think it's really cool that they referenced this, but its also a very neurodivergent thing to cling to music when stressed/overwhelmed and I'm not trying to say she's neurodivergent necessarily but it's nice to see it on screen since it's something I do so often

Probably the baby race one, but every reference was good. But these references HELPED the heelers not move. If Lila and Bingo never helped the caterpillar, the butterfly would never had shown where Frisky was. If Cornillius wasn’t divorced and never met the terrier’s mum, the digs “with no eyes” would never have gave up the Heeler’s house. Not all, but some of the references were there :) Also, did you see the official Bluey Channel has put up the FULL EPISODE of Dad Baby 🤩

My personal favorite was Greeny from Mum School. However, the Dance Mode track played during the wedding is personal for me because I can look back at the track more positively now. While I understand why people like the episode, I hate Dance Mode for some very personal reasons that is mostly tied to how Bandit, Chilli, and especially Bluey acted towards Bingo. However, one of the positives I have about Dance Mode is of course the soundtrack which I must admit is an amazing soundtrack. Unfortunately, I couldn't really hear the track for while without thinking about how mad I was at Bandit, Chilli, and Bluey for peer-pressuring Bingo and taking her feelings for granted, and how I felt when my family treated me similarly in high school (look, i said my reasons for hating Dance Mode are personal so I'm not going into more detail). However, with the use of the track in The Sign, I can now hear this amazing track and associate it with an episode I adore and resonated with me more. Once again, if you like Dance Mode, that's fine, just know that some very personal stuff holds the episode back for me.
