Strange happenings in a Limerick pub attributed to the gentle spirit of a monk.
Located at the crossroads in the village of Ardagh, County Limerick O'Connell's pub has become famous since strange things began to happen during a renovation. Journalist and publican Séamus Hennessy describes how when the old fireplace was demolished an altar stone was unearthed under the hearth stone.
We felt this disturbing presence straight away.
Subsequently spooky occurrences were observed in the pub. Doors opened and closed by themselves. Pictures and paintings taken down for renovation work were mysteriously found re-hung the following day.
Séamus Hennessy recalls a strange atmosphere in the pub,
We couldn't really explain it, it was an unhappy feeling in the building.
Mary Malone who is a mystic, visionary and healer came to the pub bringing her bell, book and candle. She felt the presence and saw three hooded characters resembling monks.
The spirits were trying to escape so she prayed and asked them to say the rosary. According to Mary Malone the spirt of just one monk remains. Séamus Hennessy has christened this ghostly monk Augustine.
Liz O'Driscoll from nearby Rathkeale is an empath who can sense things in the spirit world. She feels a strange light sensation whenever she enters O’Connell’s pub.
It’s like the heckles are standing up on the top of my head, you feel like a tingling in your aura.
This feeling is gentle, it is not frightening or evil.
