I'm a lifelong resident of Jackson County and I fgirst rememberr hearing the story of Bellamy bridge in school in about the 4th grade. I've been out to the bridge as a teen when it was still accessible but I've never seen the site of the Mansion or the grave.

The bridge is now accessible again, but from the other side of the river. The Bellamy Bridge Heritage Trail leads from a parking lot directly on Hwy 162 and is a 1/2 mile walk to the bridge.

As a kid my Grandaddy ran a "rolling store" all over that part of the county. That was part of the Saturday route and when we came to the bridge we were made to walk across and wait for him because he didn't trust the bridge completely. Spent a lot of nights there and on what is now the seed orchard that was much closer to the old Bellamy mansion fishing and running trot lines. We knew the old stories but never saw anything we considered "scary".

Cool story! I remember the "rolling store" coming by when I was a very young kid.

Is the location of Elizabeth's grave known?
@TwoEggTV2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the location of the grave is known, but is not open to the public due to past vandalism.

@@rachaelcoxmba9361 : Yeah. I live in Graceville, Florida, maybe twenty five miles from Bellamy Bridge. There are Bigfoot all over northwest Florida, all around Florida Caverns, around Waddell Mill Pond which isn't far from Bellamy Bridge. There are Bigfoot all along Cowart's Creek and Marshall Creek which run together and make the Chipola River. I'm 68 years old. In 1969 you could still walk across the bridge. I have several times walked across that bridge. I don't know when it came under such disrepair. I wish someone would restore it so people can walk across it again.

@TwoEggTV8 жыл бұрын
The name of the song is "Ghost of Bellamy Bridge" and it is by Ernest Toole and Sarah Toole. He wrote it especially for us and it will be on his coming CD.

Just visited, trail is dead lol Still made it to the bridge

When the river is high, the trail floods in places. The key is to check the USGS website to see if the water is below 8 feet on the gauge at Marianna.

Back in the 70's it was a party place.
@TwoEggTV3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it definitely was back then. The entrance today is via a trail on the other side of the river. The old way is closed now. There is a parking area and a developed nature trail that brings you in off Hwy 162 from the other side.
