I really don't understand why Sony would greenlit sequel to one of the best PS4 games with such über political person. I mean I get it, it was greenlit during the peak of DEI/ESG/modern audience era. Whatever happened to separating art from artist? Who cares what an actor says on their private social media? Some of the greatest art in history was made by truly shitty people (never mind making some offensive tweets). People should stop being terminally online, but this goes both ways. I understand the potential image problem, but that's Sony's problem, not the customer's.

Firstly, tell me who exactly asked for a female protagonist for the ghost franchise? I get that there are people who are "okay" with it and that's fine but there are also people who are "not okay" with it which in my opinion is fine too. And these people are all potential customers. You can cry about how people are just a bunch of bigots for not wanting a female protagonist all you want, but the fact is that people can have all sorts of reasons for not wanting a female protagonist for this franchise. And even if some of these people are bigots, why should their opinion matter any less when they are also potential customers? Sucker Punch choosing to force a female protagonist in the game despite nobody actually asking for it, at the very least shows that they do not care about the opinion of their audience.

In most cases, I also agree of separating the art from the artist, but recent media works show that the artist they hire are a reflection of the work they do. For example, Acolyte, Ms Marvel, Concord, Agatha forever, Dustborn, Velma, and so many other pieces of work, the team behind production uses their art to expose their world view to everyone, inconsequential to the quality of said work, Velma being the prime example. That's why most people are very wary of anything that might be pandering to the woke movement. That said, I agree it's way too early to have final judgment on this game. Personally, I have hope that it will be a good game, but I will wait until after the game is released to make a decision if I like it or not.

This, all of marvel, Star Wars, there’s multiple examples not even just video games. Don’t act like this isn’t happening. There’s a criteria these companies now have to meet because we live in a world that prioritizes meeting certain genders and skin colors versus actual stories or quality. I personally am not too bothered by this as I’m not personally obsessed witg the series, but I could tell you I’d be pretty pissed wanting a sequel to a newer game series that was really successful and loved, to see that yet again it looks like another property is falling plaque to this DEI checklist everything needs to hit now.

The difference with those franchises is that they originated with a female lead. Imagine the second Tomb Raider replacing Lara with Lars or the next Horizon replacing Aloy with Alan. Not only that, but the setting is more grounded in reality so besides the piggybacking taking place with the character swap the suspension of disbelief is a bit harder to believe due to the physicality of the character. Lara dual wielded guns, which even the odds in any altercation as upper body strength isn't a major factor. Time will tell with this, but people aren't wrong or bigoted for having an adverse reaction.

I think the main thing to look at is Sucker Punch as a studio and what they've delivered in the past. Their recent games have held progressive values, they've advertised them as such, and the games turned out to be awesome. Erika Ishii has held several roles in media like games and cartoons, some "woke", some not. I'm not aware of their presence transforming anything into a woke circus. That's on the direction of the studio and their product. There are plenty of actors that are VERY vocal and polarizing to audiences, but nonetheless, they perform very well in their role and present a good amount of separation from their own personality and beliefs. I'd feel differently about this if there was more evidence of the sole hiring of Erika Ishii having an effect on the media they work on, but no one's presenting that. It's just clips and tweets of Erika in a non-professional capacity. Tl;dr A progressive studio hired a progressive actor for their game. Sucker Punch games are great and often feature female leads. Nothing is new here. Needs more evidence before engaging in up-in-arms behavior.

On its own merits, the game looks good. I loved everything I saw in the trailer, I got no issue with the protagonist being a woman... But it has become increasingly hard to separate the art from the artist. Especially because of the arrogance and pretentiousness of the people that make the art; in this case, these games. It's enough for me to put my wallet away and pass on their game. I don't know if the actual game will be woke or not. I'm over it, I'm done. "FK" these people, their virtue-signaling, their preaching, their smugness, their narcissism. Then SONY ex boss comes out and says if we don't like it we don't have to buy it. As much as I would want the game, these attitudes just push me against buying what they make, because I know it's the only way to hurt them. Look in life the bare minimum you can be with another person is NICE and GRATEFUL. If you cannot be either one of those things then I don't want anything from you. I've already abandoned most entertainment media over this crap. On the flip side, it saves me money.
