Thank you Metatron. I am Japanese and please let me add my opinion, for whatever that’s worth. I didn’t take a survey, but I doubt many in Japan are angry that the protagonist is a woman. In fact, I think they would be excited. Japanese period films are filled with mulan-style badass women, sometimes with swords. A wide sentiment i heard even for AC shadows in Japan was that they were a-ok with Yasuke being a co-star (there’s already multiple media in Japan that stars yasuke to varying levels if historicity). It was Ubisofts claim to historical accuracy that annoyed people. But this is fiction, that’s only loosely historically inspired. People would not be angry if not for the context of western media’s recent blunders. It’s an understandable reaction, but an overreaction. At least as of now. “But how often would you see a woman Samurai!? Woke agenda!” They say. Lol I’m surprised so many western consumers are so attached to the conventions of Samurai gender. And this is an aside, what is this about her being “ugly”? Jin wasn’t some anime hot guy either, but he was very believably Japanese-looking. So is the lady in Yotei. She looks good, and looks the part. I am excited for a game set in Edo period Hokkaido. It’s a surprising choice, and a very interesting one.

@ymaaw373529 күн бұрын
It's because it would be a bad business move to hire someone that might have a negative reputation with the consumers. So, you would be stupid to hire the actress thinking it won't be important what her reputation is like in the real world. Hollywood isn't hiring Will Smith because of his reputation for example. So, you have to be on board with her views if you're going to hire her unless you're stupid business wise.

From what I've seen the japanese comment sections say at least they don't seem to care about playing a woman, they're happy she looks 'yellow' and they're able to play a "yellow protagonist'. Also people are frequently happy for the people in Hokkaido and Hokkaido getting some spotlight or some even saying they didn't even know about Yotei, or others thinking of visiting the place now. Apparently the developers went to Hokkaido to record wildlife sounds and such. Since japanese social media is not infested by culture war they also seem fine with "political correctness within reason" and "as long as they keep it respectful to the setting" and such stuff. Great video, metatron. I also agree that while her political views are extreme af, I'm willing to separate the art from the artist if the game is good. Other than that, something about the trailer I liked was the background music. It has a very "cowboy" feel to it but it still uses some traditional Japanese sounds. Thought that was something to take note of. Also, I really like Hokkaido as a setting. I'm taking a Japan Travel course this summer but unfortunately we will not be hitting Hokkaido. Watched the trailer before this video just so I'd have an uninfluenced opinion and it looked really good. Was a bit put off about changing the main character but that's because I didn't realise that the action took place 300 years later in which chase, well, sure. I must say that even after knowing that, I'm a bit disappointed because it didn't feel like Jin's story was over at the end of the previous game, rather that it was just beginning. So if they set it up as if there is going to be a sequel with him as a protagonist and then they completely skip that, it does raise some eyebrows. That being said, not following the crazies I had no idea there was so much controversy around this, and I think I was better off like that. If you're gonna call every piece of entertainment with a female protagonist as being woke, you're not better than those who call every white straight male as being horrible people, actually you're the reason they're doing it. Quite honestly, the level of polarisation some parts of the world have reached is simply insane. I'm much better just ignoring all that, enjoying a piece of entertainment if it's good, skipping it if it's not and that's that. PS: About the graphics, what the hell do they still want from a game? It's more than 15 years since Crysis came out, all the games nowadays have amazing graphics, even video cards 3 or 4 generations ago can easily render games with super realistic graphics (I know, I upgraded my GPU this year with a last gen but owned a 970GTX before that and I played games all the way to RDR2 and GTA5). I have no idea what these kids expect from a game if they think any game released now, not only this one, has bad graphics.

Otherwise, if you're successful by your own efforts, if a lot of your people are highly educated white collar professionals, and you don't need big gov to carry you, then you're not a POC and you're excluded. That's the point, we don't trust their motives - it has nothing to do with sex - look at all the games / movies with female protagonists we having been buying / watching for years without complaint. Here's the thing ... Those examples you gave of previous "girl boss" protagonists with their own games? They started as girl bosses and continued as girl bosses. They were never replaced with another character, and they weren't replacing an already-loved character. How many people do you think would have bought a Tomb Raider game which did not star Laura Croft, much less replaced her with a dude? There are modern games which have female protagonists as well, and they've succeeded (Nier Automata and Stellar Blade, among others). Considering the climate (and Sony), it's VERY easy to believe they put a female character in for no reason other than diversity, particularly when you consider who they cast. People loved Jin, and he still had a lot of story to tell. He was "The Ghost". And whether or not the game is "woke" doesn't matter to many beyond that, specifically because they've done this so many times. People will immediately see it as DEI, whether it is or not, because they're taking it from a much-beloved male protagonist to a female. And don't kid yourself, they would never do the reverse in 2024. It's unfortunate, but the reality is it doesn't matter if they're being genuine in just trying to tell a different story from a different perspective. This is not what people will see, and the creators know that, which again points to them doing this just to it for diversity's sake. Otherwise, why take that risk? You're right not to jump to conclusions. That said, I'm certainly approaching this game with trepidation for these reasons. I'm not remotely excited about it, because I'm expecting the worst thanks to the track record of modern games. I absolutely won't buy it until the reviews are in.

It's an alternate history game in which you successfully fend off the pirates that famously took Caesar hostage, only for him to die by a stray arrow in the Mithridatic Wars, and it changes history in order for the main character to be the man (or woman) who's able to eventually decide the fate of the Republic. But in that game sexism is accounted for, and the narrative changes in case of the MC being a woman, such as various legal problems, her identity as a woman being concealed from the rank and file because legionaires won't follow you otherwise (until later in the game when your heroism has been thoroughly proven), and the need to marry to secure her inheritance and stuff later on.

@@merc9nine no they make games that they enjoy making and that they hope the public will enjoy as well .... well the good games are like that. anything made without enjoyment/fulfillment from the creators side is usually cash grab garbage pumped out to bilk dupes out of their money (see countless hurried "movie" tie in games)

@jacopobelbo1399 sounds like you've never had a job in your life, certainly not one in the games industry like I have. But you just proved everyone who is complaining point by suggesting that they don't make games for the gamers, they make games for themselves, so looking at who works there and what their beliefs are is a good way to tell what the game will be like and what agendas they push in their games.

So much talk about the wokeness when it is a fundamentally simple issue to understand here; Our ability to relate to a character is fundamentally dependent upon both personal relation to the characters story in some way, which is the way we relate fundamentally no matter the context, and simultaniously aesthetic preferences in regard to the fact that people either choose what they are most attracted to, which seems to be more and more average case as time goes on, for reasons I could only speculate, or you would prefer a character that is the same sex as yourself. Or the hidden third option, which is: who gives af? Its all about preference, and it doesnt go much deeper than that. I personally have been all 3 of those examples. So why does it matter if the MC is female? Well, its not WHY it matters, its WHO it matters to. The consumer base for the product. And if that consumer base cares enough about the IP, they will begin to take it seriously. And thus we have issues of Companies making decisions that the target base disagree with in regard to the way that base has become attached to the IP. So how do you fix that? Don't buy their shit. Once again, a pretty straightforward solution. This game does look pretty good though, at least to me personally as a huge History nerd. Also, unrelated, Marx literally called Engels the N word multiple times in his personal correspondance as a Joke. He lived in Europe during the 1800's bro, dude was the opposite of modern wokeism. Also several remarks that would be considered anti-semetic by todays Zionists. Really quite ironic that so called "Leftists" claim to identify with Marxism while sumultaniously being the greatest example of who would be put in a Labor fun Camp lmfao

I'm very excited for this game. I don't care about the english actors or what they think, so long as it's not in the game. I also assume there'll be a Japanese voices option, and that's what matters. 7:18 those ARE good graphics. Photorealism is, itself, only as impressive as the 'grout' that's not real, and is made up by artists to seem real. We're not impressed by looking at a tree, but we are impressed when we see paint arranged to seem like a tree. The more indistinguishable the paint is from the tree, the less impressive it gets. Fuck this idea that led us to more disney 3d lion king and less Incredibles. 11:30 the wokatron 🤣🤣🤣🤣. 13:12 Dr Jeffrey M Bale has outlined exactly what the "far right" actually is; illiberal radicals and revolutionaries, as opposed to establishment and dissident conservatives. 15:06 Metatron's new epithet 😂😂😂. I don't think I can write that out without my comment being suppressed. I'll just say, beegotray hasn't meant what it's dictionary sense says in more than a decade. I've been only seeing the most "intolerant" (something they're supposed to oppose) use it. 16:45 yeah this stuff is getting predictably boring, not even irritating. 18:53 There's a dark shadow crawling out from within me, and every time I see antiwokes overextend themselves, and complain about the presence of people who don't look like them in something, it proves the overstated idea that "representation matters". It's a very bad look proving your stated enemies right. 19:23 there's a difference between a heroine and a "girl boss". Let's defend the former. 23:00 Shawn Layden? 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣. I really liked how you separated this video between normal response and political response. Very cool.

"And then in 2030, when we reach Mars with Elon Musk, you'll be able to play this on Steam" Nice line, but would be better if you just said "PC" - at this point, with the direction they've been going for more than 5 years now (but in particular for the past 5 years), I'm half hoping we no longer have to put up with Steam by that point.

I hear you, but I think it would be naïve to think they chose a swordswoman for honest reasons instead of plausible deniability in trying to placate the woke as well as actual gamers, considering the current climate. You can't ignore the climate this has come out in, as much as you try. That's why Endymion's quote isn't "nonsense" - it makes perfect sense placed in the context of this years developments in gaming culture. You don't watch his channel but he does ex[lain it all in detail. We're all a little punch drunk for a reason, which is not "nonsense" and shouldn't be belittled.

Unless you have evidence, that’s simply speculation. Yes, the current games industry is rife with diversity for the sake of it. But this doesn’t mean every instance that looks like such on a surface level has in fact been done for purposes of activism.
