Mephisto is one of the few beings that can actually stand toe to toe with either Lilith or cthon, and like Blaze said, he doesn't want cthon back either, because why would he. So basically, it's a choice between two evils, and blaze picked the lesser one

Actually, using supernatural evil to defeat supernatural evil is basically Ghost Rider's M-O. Not to mention, this is an older, more bitter, and more morally flexible Johnny. This really isn't all that out of character for him. It makes a lot of sense in context. It's basically just like when Strange wanted to sacrifice Chavez to keep her power away from Wanda (Multiverse of Madness), or like when Strange said he'd be willing to sacrifice Peter or Tony in order to keep the time stone from Thanos Tough decisions, but for the greater good.
