Some of the writers of these stories weren't the best. But then, these movies were made almost 100 years ago. They were made for entertainment and also for money.

The West wasn't on another planet. It was just a different era. The first modern car and the first marketable car series appeared in 1886. The West had cars but they still depended on horses.
