Wilsie's shopping mall. Grocery store, TV, repair and purchase (bought my first TV there), Post Office, dry goods, and farm supplies. Loved that area.

Wow, that one TV at 15:38 has tubes. It's been ages since I've seen a television set that required tubes. Makes you wonder how long the area has been sitting there going to ruin.

D.O. Moyers store. I knew it very well. The Wilsie School was on the opposite side of Belfont Road. Good times sitting on the concrete steps in the evenings listening to the older folks stories. Great times.

I visited Flatwoods and Heaters back in the summer of 1990. I climbed up to the top of a hill and stood there for an hour. I'd never heard silence before. Beautiful country.

I spent many hours there when it was a happening place. Friendly people. I stayed many nights in the old house there. And yes there was a spirit lived there also.

I don't know who did this video but Wilsie is not a ghost town. Yes, the old store is closed but several people still live in the area.

In what river? This store is no where near a river just a small creek. I live in the area and pass it every day. It has recently been bought and the new owner hopes to reopen at some point.

@Mervin Russell It didn't 'leave'. It is a rural area just off what used to be the main route through the county to the Capital and all of the other 'major' cities back then. The interstate went through and took all the 'through' traffic that used to come from Charleston and surrounding area. Then Wal Mart and some other larger stores came in closer to the "county seat" / north of here. A combination of things. But local people still travel and use

All analog tv's, and useless except as conversation pieces... depressing and sad to think a once vibrant community could fall into this stage of abandonment. But.... when the jobs left -

Wilsie is not a ghost town by no means. Plenty of people live there. I am from Braxton and have lived here my entire life lol

That is so sad! The area is beautiful! It would seem to me that some developer could tear down all of the buildings that cannot be restored and build some beautiful homes. Where I live in Kentucky, people are moving to the country by the droves from large cities.

Would've been nice to see the inside of those places and the stuff left behind instead of just the outside and the ground n bushes

It would’ve been nice. However, the floors were not structurally sound. The house appeared (to me) to still be in use.
