Seems like a lot of old people with no family just perished and their houses were left and that’s it, sad.
@BananaPhoPhilly Жыл бұрын
You’d think the homes would be auctioned off or the property purchased by the town. But I guess not.
@gstevens6948 Жыл бұрын
Very sad… 😢

It obviously hasn't been left. Someone is trying to take care of this property but as you can see thieves and trespassers don't care about that.
@theirmom4723 Жыл бұрын
Most likely due to them taking out reverse mortgages. The banks from all of the country own the homes at their death.

The calendar in the last home is dated June of 2015. I saw a few commenters saying they wish I had filmed it. I was able to zoom in on FCPX and get the date. Thanks!

Man, west Virginia is a whole other world. The small mountain towns are full of forgotten homes and businesses. My aunt lives there and it's always unsettling to see the beautiful scenery against some of the poorest places in America
@TheSWolfe Жыл бұрын
Ain't that the truth! Spent my 1st 21 there. Left for the City weeks after bday. Rarely return, but each time I do, less and less of that "beautiful scenery" remains, given the clear-cutting, mountaintop removal & strip mining, fracking & leveling of entire mountain ranges for commercial development. Certain remote areas are still wild enough that ample wilderness exists, but parts of where I left from are nigh-unrecognizeable now.

I don't know why, but when Dan opened the Cupboard in the 1st house... And he said "Rusty" it reminded me of Love Shack by B-52's and the part where Kate Pierson says... Your What? Tin Roof. RUSTED! Thanks Dan.

What a fascinating and lovely place. So sad it's now all decaying and the lovely old houses with so many memories of those who once lived there, that's the depressing part. The Hotel/Motel must have been something in its day, I wonder if they held political conferences there for the West Virginia region like they do in England? Thanks Dan and Dillon for another great mooch! X

We travel there every year to visit family. You would be surprised at the places you find and there are a lot of abandoned gems. However what appears abandoned may be occupied as poverty and drugs is all over West Virginia. What looks rural to some of us may be a town there. Ive had my fair share of explorations and drove on several mountains. Absolutely a beautiful state with lots of history. Lots of places to explore that hasn't been yet. Hopefully your up to taking on more of this beautiful and historic land and who better then the man who started it all!

If you ever find yourself in Virginia I highly recommend exploring Pulaski county located about 50 min from the VA / WV state line. They have an abandoned hospital that was built and operated in the 1920’s… abandoned schools for “colored” folks… I mean it’s a gold mine for abandoned history.

It’s really insane to see all these abandoned properties. My guess is that the people that lived there were old and had no family, so the houses were left to rot. I’ve seen some videos of abandoned mansions, and it’s wild to see the furniture and items still in the place, including antiques that are probably worth a pretty penny. I also saw videos that showed that homeless people were squatting in these abandoned homes.

@Luciana Romulus if it's posted NO TRESPASSING and you go in it's TRESPASSING. Not hard to figure that out. Guess you would be cool if someone decided to roam around your house and film it when you weren't there.

What county is this in? My mother took me exploring when I was a kid back in the 90's & the newest old paper we found was dated the year she was born (1955). Every room had a fireplace where it wasn't connected to any power source. I found out that that had just torn down the slave quarters like a year before we moved out her (WV). She brought the newspaper article with the date on it home. That's how we got Mr Black.
