Coach reacts to Kanye West's "Ghost Town" and gives his thoughts and analysis on the lyrics. He also gives a brief English language lesson on the history of the letter "thorn," where Kanye gained the inspiration to name the album "Ye." Enjoy this first-time, genuine reaction, with lyric breakdown and commentary. This is the first time Coach has ever listened to hip-hop, outside of some 90s stuff by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.
Can you help Coach understand hip-hop better? Leave a comment.
Kanye fans, can we get Coach to 1000 subs?
Enjoy.

The quote about being bipolar is on the album cover of “Ye”. The whole album deals with Kanye’s experiences living with bipolar disorder. This particular song is about the euphoric but potentially dangerous high of a manic bipolar state. When kanye is in a manic state of mind, he feels free, he feels like a kid, he doesn’t feel pain. It’s the only time where he feels truly his honest self “no half truths just naked minds” but this is a dangerous state to operate in. Even if he’s not feeling the pain of his hand on the stove, he’s still getting hurt. His reckless behavior is still alienating his loved ones “I’ve been trying to make you love me, but everything I try just takes you further from me” and he knows a lot of his well-intentioned actions won’t be understood by many but he yearns for the “someday” when people will finally realize that he didn’t mean any harm. It’s a pretty key song to understanding Kanye’s mentality and the closest thing we’ll get to an explanation for his many wild outbursts and rants that are regularly documented in the media. I think it’s a really important track that is honest about the realities of living with a mental condition but it’s definitely a little hard to understand without context

kanye is the most influential artist in hip hop. he changed the game. his debut album, the college dropout, had many soul samples and departed from “gangster rap.” then his 3rd album, graduation, paved the way for commercial hip hop and artist that depart from once again, “gangster rap.” you should really give a listen to those albums. and his most influential album, 808s and heartbreak. after the death of his mother and after his fiance leaving him, he drops a hip hop album that used 808s which was never really used in hip hop and he raps/sings about “sad” music which paved the way for many artists like that. definitely give those a listen 😁 quick listens for each album. TCD: all falls down. Graduation: i wonder. 808s: street lights

Someone else mentioned All Falls Down. I'll try to get to that one when I do another. Most influential artist in hip hop? That seems like a bold statement.

I wasn't sure because of his biblical quote, which would be "yee," or "thee" like I mention in the video.

Awesome reaction! Would love to see more Kanye. I think coming from a metal background you'll enjoy song like Black Skinhead, Power or Hell of a Life from Kanye. Runway is also a good one to react to, probably one of his most important songs

Great video! I truly understand how this song can be interpreted in different ways. This song is basically a statement for his well being a mental health. It’s not a song you really just sit back and enjoy but is meant to get a point across about his mental stability. Also kanye produces a lot of his own music and is credited for changing hip hop by using the soul samples you hear like in ghost town.

That sample was something I wasn't expecting, that's for sure. Now that I know this is about mental health, that makes a lot more sense. Thanks.

Kanye West is mentally ill and has not been a nice person, he connived with his now ex-wife Kim Kardashian to make Taylor Swift look like a liar. He called her up saying he was going to say something about her in his song "Famous". When the song came out, the lyrics "I made that b!tch famous", Taylor said she didn't know about those lyrics. Kanye and Kim edited the recording that he made when he called her. Kim started calling her a snake and pretty soon everyone jumped on the hate train. Taylor disappeared for a year, and that is when her Reputation album came out, there are songs on that album that refer to Kanye. About 3 years ago someone leaked the original tape (he filmed himself doing it), and that's when everyone knew who the real liars were. Enough said.

@@pigskinpoetryWe have a son who is bipolar and won't take his meds. he is not in our life because of the things he has done to us, we no longer trust him. Bipolar is an evil disease. Kanye also won't take meds. Kim has said they were managing it, how I don't know. But he has hurt Taylor before, he seems to have a vendetta against her, she wanted to be a friend, and he used that.
