interesting. I was stationed in Minot in the 80's and spent a lot of time driving around Minot AFB's vast missle fields. In my off time I rode my motorcycle all over ND and explored a lot of places like the ones you show. Walked into an abandoned house once and was greeted by a family of snowy owls. ND is a stark vast empty but strangely beautiful place. Thanks.

You've got me all revved up about this now. Here in Victoria Vancouver Island, B.C., we tend to be able to restore many of our old buildings before they fall over because so many buildings in the area would look ridiculous with new houses or (God forbid) condominiums next to them. Our chinatown, and 150 year old commercial areas near the harbour are still thriving and being maintained and strengthened. We have a big tourist business that keeps these areas thriving, and thank God for that. Even our city hall is pretty much the original, and I've been inside 9/10 of it, and there's even some of the original fittings there, even with computers and printers right around the corner. Save it, people!! :-)

My brother and I drove his 1962 Olds Starfire across the bridge when it was shared with the railroad in the summer of 1966. Walked the tunnel in September of 2009. In the 80's I took several pictures of abandoned farmhouses. My daughter took the prints to school and each child was to tell a story about the families that might have live there. Great stories and great imagination. ken

13:14 Almost 4 years ago, I dreamt the most haunting nightmare of my life - one in which I still remember vividly - and it took place in a setting with an uncanny resemblance to that building. I’ve never been to North Dakota or any Great Plains region and didn’t recognize anybody in the dream, but I was terrified for almost half-an-hour after waking up as if it were a flashback of mine.

I'm from South Africa and used to work as a beekeeper near Jamestown from 2008-2011. A lot of the bee yards was out by deserted farmsteads. It fascinated me to see how people could just up and leave their houses... clothes still hanging in the closets, kids trophies on the mantlepiece, old cheque books lying on the dinner table... I am back in my home country now and think back to that life a lot. I always wonder... who does these abandoned houses belong to nowadays? Did the current landowners buy the land from the original owners who abandoned it or from the state?

Awesome , I remember the Congregational Church, When people would gather for service and funerals, I was there for funerals, as I was catholic not service , we did the digging for a few of the graves my Uncles and us older kids at the time would pitch in, basement gathering meals and coffee. You can see the cemetery out of Bell tower looking West. Have family buried there, sad to see the empty church , life goes on thanks for posting

My family lived up in Rolla for a few years during the 80s. The remoteness and solitude of these locations seems to ensure that vandalism remains quite minimal to these structures. I'm also willing to guess the harsh Winters also do their thing in ensuring the buildings don't collapse inward for quite some time. You try to find ghost towns, and just plain abandoned buildings in other areas and the most you'll get is maybe a foundation, or trash piles of tin cans.

+Ghosts of North Dakota omg! Many years ago I lived on a farm somewhere between MacGregor & Wildrose, about 1/2 mile past an old abandoned, haunted Grong family cemetary. We had an old Lutheran church brought there which was our hen house, coal bin, storage, etc. If still there, you couldn't miss it! If you happen to be in that neck of the woods(Lol!) I will be watching & enjoying your adventures! -LoraLyn in AZ

When I was a kid way out on a farm outside Hickson our garage was a former schoolhouse. It had had a classroom and if I remember correctly a apartmentish for the teacher. We had a ramp for the cats to get in the front where a sliding door had been cut in. The house was a monster victorian 5 bedrooms and servant quarters . But behind the house in the shelterbelt was a old house that had probably been empty 60-70 years at that point. 1960s I looked on Google earth and found they had removed the school built a bigger house behind the Victorian right over the original farmhouse the grain mill also gone along with the chicken house. Change .

So much empty lands..looks like a good place to start the landrestoring program....you know; that plan to give as much back as is possible to the original inhabitants and caretakers. And think how many 'green and free' people could live off the grid there...wonderfull !! Thanks for your lovely video !!
