Ghost Towns and More | Episode 27 | Blanding Tunnel, Utah

In the southeastern Utah town of Blanding, a remarkable historical feat of engineering took place to solve a problem of bringing badly needed water to the town during its early decades of settlement. The story of how certain people took up the challenge despite criticism, controversy and doubt to solve a problem was beyond remarkable. The project, called the "Blanding Tunnel" is a story of sheer grit and determination and took about 30 years to complete. The sacrifices that some of these people went through could fill volumes. Today, the people of Blanding benefit from what was deemed impossible, that provides fresh water for generations to come. Special thanks goes to the Bradford and Lyman families, and the Blanding Visitor Center for their support in contributing photos for this show.

Another great show!! I had never heard this story before! I so admire the grit displayed in the creation of the tunnel. And I just about died at the thought of having to pull toads from the sinks!😂 I also really enjoyed the I interviews on this one!!

Blanding was already settled by Native American tribes before the white folks showed up. On the west side of town is the old natives place called West Water.
