One of my favorite Sissel quotes from replaying the game is his response to the prisoner's guitar. "So this is the thing that was making that horrible noise a second ago. I guess it's a way for this spiky-haired youth to express himself. Sentiments like, "I'm hungry," or "I'm thirsty," maybe... Something primitive like that, I bet..." The foreshadowing...

Another fun thing is that the title is solidly thanks to Missile. Every other temsik knowers call them "Manipulators", but since Missile doesn't know what that word is and him being a dog, he just calls them little "tricks," making it "Ghost Trick" That was the true Ghost Trick all along

The foreshadowing that gets me the most every time I watch this game is Rays surprise that you chose the guitar instead of the wrecking ball in the tutorial: "The guitar, huh?" "I would have prefered the wrecking ball, I bet that would solve the problem real quick (but I guess I cant reach cores too far away.)" He saw Sissel manipulate objects, but he had no way of knowing of Sissel's short range.

I wonder if the reason why Yomiel’s and Sissel’s Ghost Tricks got stronger was because of their prolonged exposure to Temsik especially because of how varied Sissel’s set of abilities are (manipulating objects, traveling through telephone lines and going back in time). That probably explains why Ray’s powers grow weaker throughout the years rather than becoming stronger like Yomiel

Something I don't think I've ever seen ppl talk about (spoilers for the finale) Winding back time takes the same amount of time, no matter what. You get a wordless understanding for how long that [Rewind Time] animation lasts. So it means something when, you activate Yomi's core and wind back time so far back, that the clock actually lags/slows/takes 2-3 seconds longer than usual. That's a neat detail for how Different that [Rewind] actually is. Also in the original timeline, Cabanela became Lynne's mentor and used his influence to get Lynne through her exam with less-than-legal methods, so when the game starts she's been a detective for a while. But because Jowd was never arrested in the new timeline, he stayed as Lynne's mentor, training her and mentoring her after repeated exam failures - so because of that, the new timeline's present day has Lynne only just getting her badge, as opposed to having it for sometime before the game's beginning.

After Sissel’s reveal it made me think back to when he first interacts with Lynne directly. Initially she confused herself into thinking she was Inspector Cabanela, then she was corrected. I feel like ghosts confusing their identities was another piece of foreshadowing, that’s exactly what happened to Sissel, him thinking Yomiel’s body was his, not seeing the cat in the bag.

There is early foreshadowing that Sissel is a cat and i fucking love it... When Sissel reaches the Kitchen of the Chicken Kitchen with Lynne the first time he says "So this is the heart of the chicken kitchen" and Lynne corrects him "It's the kitchen, weird i've never seen anyone refer to it that way" Which it's absolutely impossible to catch until a later playthrough as that exactly how a cat would think of the kitchen of a restaurant.

100%. There are several things like that. Another one is in the prison escape you have to switch to the real world to open the frame to get over to Jowd. They can guarantee you will be there and in the real world so they can then use that opportunity to show you the guards and thus also Jowd's location.

When I read that on my 2nd play through I was like :0 !!!

If a cat touches fire and gets burnt, they will avoid doing so in the future. They can learn concepts like that, but the real issue is the language barrier which is not a problem for ghosts. A bug would probably not have enough life experience to understand anything outside of their scope of life. But would still be able to speak as a ghost.

21:39 I think the joke here is actually making fun of the people who 'ghost hunt' by mostly unscrewing a flashlight and setting it upright. The heat of the flashlight slightly warps the internal plastic, pushing the cap upwards and breaking the electrical circuit, causing the plastic to rapidly cool, shrink, and restore the circuit. This results in rapid flickering that the ghost hunters interpret as answers to whatever questions they're asking. Hence, asking the actual ghost to turn on a flashlight with contact issues.

Love that Sissel's interact power is basically him knocking stuff over, also technically Sissel saved 13 people total since with the Meteor event altered additional lives have been saved: the mother, the girlfriend, the assassin and Yomiel. So this little black cat is certainly not bad luck...since now presumably he still has his powers and sentience as he has the mcguffin shard and memories of the manipulated timeline....manipulated by a Pomeranian, I guess you could say that it was all a ghost trick from the start.

Thank you guys for this amazing playthrough! Your voices were amazing and just perfect for the characters! This is one of my favorite games as well so I was so excited for you guys playing it. I love the style, story, twists and characters. Sissel and Missile being my favorites because I'm simple person who likes animals and their twists are just amazing (also idk they just make me sob thinking about idea of animals loving their owners this much and being well characterized). I also really like Yomiel and think he is fantastically done antagonist and tragic character. Total babygirl material. Fun fact regarding Sissel and Yomiel's names! Sissel's name pronounced in Japanese is "shiseru" which means "to be able to die". In contrast, Yomiel's name pronounced in Japanese is "yomieru" which is pun on the word "yomigaeru", meaning "to be resurrected". I would love Twewy playthrough that was joked about few times during the playthrough but I also get if you won't do it as its gameplay is very different.

SPOILER I started to realize what the whole "Ray" deal was at the very end, in the submarine when they all had to work together and they said something like "we just need a small ray of light, of hope" and that phrase slapped me as if it was a fish I guessed sissel was probably a rat too, wrong on that I also guessed ray was a previous version of sissel that got stuck because he didn't have missile, wrong on that too, it was the other way around the time limit, I kept trying to think around it, and it made NO sense, but I refused to believe it was just straight up a lie lmfao

Ghost Trick actually has the perfect setup for a different story separate from the cast and their ending. in the original timeline, Sissel leaves and likely never finds any leads to the murder and would just spend his eternity wafting about. You could totally have Punished Sissel take the role of Ray and tutorial another ghost. With the plot of the Temsik meteor in the possession of the Blue Man Group, they can totally create characters like Yomiel that can catch you in the act.

I think there is a few ways they can go for a sequel: 1) Brand new game with new characters and a completely different origin/setting for the Ghost Trick 2) Brand new game, new characters/same setting and origin 3) New characters EXCEPT Sissel takes the role of a mentor and thats really it, he has nothing to really do with the plot except to act as the teacher for the new ghost. And to be fair I'd love for the cat to keep appearing cause i can see them doing 9 games to match the 9 cases/lives. He's a cat that permanently stuck as a kitten as both alive and dead so its safe to say he's gonna be here for...awhile. LOL 4) Murder Mystery adventures of Sissel and Lynn but Lynn is written more competently. ' This was a cool games and I literally cried once I put together who the voice of ray was.Their are so many puns and japanese wordplay in this game its beautiful. This was fun to watch, thankyou.

When I first played the game and got to the end, before the Missle twist, I thought "WHAT ABOUT THE RED LAMP, DON'T GO BACK YET" and I got the answer. kind of strange that he was there too, also he could have reviled him self earlier and help with the 10 years back thing, like you get to the control room and you see another flame and he reveals himself. Than that segment would have even more ghosts to use not just Yomiel also the conversation, like the others just stand back and let the cat and old dog talk alone.

I mean Ray mentions his powers have grown weaker, which is likely what happens to Ghosts that aren't directly affected by Temsik like Yomiel and likely new timeline Sissel. He also mentions it took almost all his powers to come at the junkyard at beginning of the game. Game also implies that Ray's powers grow very weak to the point of his spirit almost vanishing after Missile of this timeline gets his powers. You can visit Ray at junkyard during the game for hints and commentary on story progress, but he starts becoming way more quiet after Missile dies the second time.

I absolutely loved this game when it first released, playing through the entire thing on DS on the same day I bought it, but it's hard to play a game centered around mysteries a second time because now you know all of the answers. Watching Jello and friends create this series was exactly what I needed to love this game just as much as that first time. 2:20:00 (around the time they talk about a sequel) I can see a DLC for the game, like with Missile not being able to use telephone lines, there can be segments of him going thought town. or with Yomiel and the special cases (the rock band singing secrets and the curry* guy). you will be doing them, that way no need to mess with the story(it's already established plot) and we get to play with Yomiel's/Missile's powers.

Honestly, I thought Ray was Yomiel, and that Sissel was also Yomiel, which is a theory that only made sense to me because I watched all the episodes of this playthrough in two days and didn't give myself time to theorise enough to notice the very large holes in that theory. The motivation I had in my head was timeline 1 Yomiel persuading timeline 2 Yomiel to make better choices with his ghost powers and ultimately undo the event from ten years ago, but the logic does not follow at all, and I think having Sissel be a cat and Ray be Missile is a far better set of twists anyway

I'd love a sequel with an all new hero, new cast of characters, little to no recurring ones, because their stories are all wrapped up... Except the villains, who are the blue people again. Get some more closure on their whole deal, maybe find out more about Beauty's psychic powers, properly get a sense of defeating them, perhaps. Could even be set in their country, gives a good reason to not run into the heroes of this game. 'cause as is, Beauty and Dandy blow themselves up, but Commander Sith gets off perfect fine, and with the time rewind, Jeego and Tengo are now completely unharmed again. And this is a band of international... Espionage agents? Mafia types? Terrorists maybe? They could definitely be explored in more detail.

So... this is a thing related to my writing but if I were to EVER want anyone to do anything else with the world I've built. I'd want them to NEVER use my main characters outside of 'Oh yeah, they were the heroes/they are the heroes of the world'. Because frankly, I feel like my characters don't either NEED to get involved again or do not need to get involved in this little part. They were made to do this part of the plot and that's it. ESPICALLY when all of the things end. So yeah, I do agree that Ghost Trick doesn't need a sequel or at least doesn't need to use these characters again. As interesting as Sissel is, he's done his part and that's all there is to it. We do not need him to come back. And pro-tip to all of you writers out there; your characters can be interesting and can be used for a plot but they shouldn't be used for everything. They can be used for everything and it can work but when it doesn't, it creates this thing of 'Well what are you gonna do next?' and 'what new power-up are they gonna get for this new threat?' (LOOKING AT YOU DRAGON BALL) which isn't really fun. It can be, don't get me wrong... but it can get stagnant after a bit. But that's just me frankly. I'd honestly be interesting in seeing the same characters get used for a very long plot in different ways, I like seeing things play out in certain ways I guess. So go out there and write! ...Also Sissel being a fucking cat is still hilarious to me. Like that's some off the wall shit that I love.

I saw someone suggest a sequel having no recurring characters except perhaps Sissel as a tutorial character. That makes me wonder how this new character got their powers and why Sissel is even there in the first place. Concept: someone dies near Sissel and they get ghost tricks. Sissel offers to save them, but they refuse so they can use their new ghost tricks to help others. Maybe the ultimate conclusion of this game is the protagonist learning to accept their life as it was and letting Sissel save them before they can’t be saved anymore

I think it's a little weird we see absolutely zilch of her since she's one of Yomiel's main driving factors. There is a ...folklore tale?, mindset?, stories, that say that when a pet loses its life for strange reasons, is because they gave out their lifes to save yours from a possible calamity. Not sure if this stories are the same in other countries, but maybe that is the reason why the pets are the ones with the power to rewind time of death?

The ending for PWvPL was more of a Professor Layton problem than a Shu Takumi problem. From what I've heard, the Layton games LOVE to explain everything in a pseudo-scientific way that requires WAY more suspension of disbelief than just "oh, it's magic"

I don't know where it was said that Ace Attorney and Ghost Trick take place in the same world-- I don't know if it was an official statement or just fan speculation due to both games being written by the same guy-- but I've always found it to be such an amusingly pointless claim, since in my opinion the setting of this game feels WAY different from our beloved Japanifornia. The characters' names aren't even puns, for crying out loud! xP

Sisal is the material used to make most cat scratching posts. Also, Sissle is like Sizzle, and his hair and ghost form look similar to a fire. And in Japanese, "Shiseru", means "to be able to die". Lynne would, in Japanese, be said as Rinne, the Buddhist cycle of rebirth. And she dies a bunch of times. Cabanela's name originates from shikabane, meaning "Corpse". Yomiel comes from yomigaeru, meaning "To revive". Alma means "Lift the spirit", or "Soul". The assassins Jeego and Tengo come from jigoku and tengoku, meaning "hell" and "heaven" respectively. So... Yeah, tons of name puns.

It seemingly is misconception, Shu Takumi said the exact opposite but said crossover of the two games would be fun. Also Ghost Trick, in both versions, takes supposedly place in Western country (likely USA). All characters have western-sounding names that are mostly the same in both versions (only expectations I know are Kamila and Amelie, who still have passable Japanese names to be western). Only character who has Japanese name is Ray, whose name is language based pun. Also while many character names are actually puns when pronounced in Japanese (such as Sissel and Yomiel's) it's confirmed from official JP material such as trailers their names are written in same way as in dub. For example Lynne's name is pronounced "Rinne" in Japane version and while it is actual Japanese name, her name is seen written "Lynne" in Japanese trailers. All names are also in katakana, which implies they're foreign/non-Japanese. Cabanela also constantly uses random English words in his dialogue in JP version, which gives off stereotypical American foreigner vibe seen in anime/manga.

@@calemr I mean, idk if those are really _puns,_ they're just names with meanings that are significant to the game's theme. Lots of stories do that with their character names. Like how the protagonist of Beauty and the Beast is called Belle, which means "beauty". To put it another way: If a psychic character had the name "Basar", which means "sight", "vision", or "the eye", that's just what TV Tropes would call a Meaningful Name. But if his name was "Horace Cope", _that_ would be a pun, because it's a play on the word "horoscope".

I’m SO glad I sat through all of this. The one thing I’d ask though…mechanically is the game fun? The story is DEFINITELY enough to keep me invested but as a puzzle video game is it fun? There seemed to be a lot of moments where you were in a level and stated how annoying / bad it is mechanically.

21:05 I feel like this is just to set up the next sequence. This game is usually pretty good about being consistent on which core you're possessing between scenes, so continuity-wise this makes it so you wouldn't be at the top on a random valve.

So I figured out Sissle was the cat a ways ahead of time, but I didn't think that the manipulator was possessing the cats body afterwards. I thought they were going to go with a variant of 'cats have nine lives' where dying splits a cats soul and Sissile is the dead fragment. Kinda disappointed they didn't go that way, could have been really interesting.

His body can be harmed but he doesn't feel pain and gets healed fast. (How Cabanela's tracker got stuck into him, etc) Pigeon Man was only a guy trying to cut him for autopsy after all. So likely if he is hit with a strong force, like mechanic claw, I assume it could get deep enough to reach the fragment and pull it away which stopped the regeneration.
