I had an idea for a campaign where the bbeg had the epithet fantasy and he's like a thug, and he goes out and activates his epithet pulling in some random people on the street , Who would be the party. Fantasy would pull the party into what is like a fantasy book, and turn it into like a D&D setting, and now they gotta find the guy by basically larping through the story, and they have to go to shops and get items for their journey, pay for inns and all that, and luckily everyone takes their paper money that wouldn't normally be in a fantasy world. But actually every "npc" they talk to is actually the thug, who's basically playing the DM for the game, and when they find it out they can choose to fight him. Because he's only a thug he's easily beaten so He'll beg to be let go, and if the party does let them go without thinking about it, he'll run off with all the money they paid him as the NPC's after letting them free.

I think a big thing that Jello missed out on for his first experience, which definitely wasn't intentional on Savvy and Oz's part, but Savvy voicing Jimmy in the opening segment robbed Jello of the intention that you're supposed to think it was Curly who steered the ship to crash until you get to the Jimmy reveal. And Savvy voicing him and making it clear to Jello who was ACTUALLY in the cockpit heavily dampened that reveal, and let Jello know that Jimmy was lying from the get-go.

Tbh, if you wanted to steal inspiration for how to level up in long term campaigns, I quite like the Milestone system I found in Wildsea but I'm sure is more common elsewhere. Basically, whenever something "XP worthy" happens, you write down the basics of that event, label it a "minor or major milestone", and then when you get enough milestones you can use them to level up. It's not only helpful because you can pull the actual milestone descriptions to inspire what you're gonna do with them, but also the presentation encourages the GM and players to have milestones rewarded for specific behaviors and events rather than just "here's some number candy." Wildsea's aspects also give some of the vibes I see with Epithet's System, though it's definitely a very different approach and intent and execution. The write your own abilities part is actually the only similarity ._.

I've thought of an NPC I want in Deepwood now: Solomon King. Commanding the epithet: Monarch. Very deliberately a thought experiment of how absolutely broken can I possibly make an Epithet and what would that do to a person. Monarch gives Solomon total birthright to the world. And I mean ALL of it. Solomon can't be lower level than the highest level character, so anytime ANYONE else gains a level, he does too. Also, any person, animal, or other sentience on the world bends to his will, notably whether he wants them too or not. The rules of the setting aren't immune to this, giving Monarch and by extension Solomon control over the properties of the world, including other Epithets. As a result of this absolutely broken power, not even death can save Solomon from the weight of this power. No one else has ever gotten Monarch, or reasonably could, as Solomon has been immortal for however long this setting has had Epithets for (upwards of around a few hundred years, we can't have him be too old or languages shifting becomes a problem probably), and even if he were to somehow die anyway the Epithet would be able to bend fate, time, or death to bring him back. Importantly, this all SUCKS for Solomon King, who as of late has commanded the world and its people to forget he exists to escape the increasingly dangerous control he has over everyone. The whole world could effortlessly fall under his beck and call, which would leave a world with no free will, challenge, or consequence. So he cut ties with politics entirely. In self-imposed exile in Deepwood, people occasionally get saved from certain doom when they cross his path while dying, only to be miraculously saved. But since they can't remember HOW they've been saved from their aliments or dangerous events, and Epithets fail to solve this mystery, people have created rumors of a benevolent force or ghost that occasionally judges and spares the doomed, tied to their sacred opinions of the cycle of life and death. Other such rumors might be of a hermit that is incredibly hard to seek out but can solve any problem, or of a dangerous monster that goes on a rampage and can't be described or recalled by survivors, nor tracked down after the attack. Especially important, this is an NPC ONLY, meant to test the theoretical limits of the Epithet systems rather than be a player character or even a phenomenon players might randomly encounter (Unless it made sense for the GM to make a set encounter of course). I have thereby dubbed the concept of Epithets like this that are truly world-shattering and not for PCs Global Epithets, by their status as being powerful enough any user of any skill level could fundamentally break the game.

Honestly this is a very fun bones for a system, but I gotta say I don’t know what purpose initiative is serving in this system. Like- if your whole mechanic for Dual Techs is based around the fact that a player can skip their turn later in order to take it during another turn, then it’s just proof initiative is just getting in the way. This is a system where you can be strategic and it’s fun to be strategic. But it’s not a tactical RPG. The GM is gonna fiat stuff, the group is gonna make up abilities, and inevitably it’s gonna be unbalanced and rebalanced. Initiative doesn’t really play into that fast and loose and fun playstyle. The fact that there are almost no ways to modify your rolls in this system either makes it even more questionable to implement. I feel like Popcorn initiative works better, where the players and enemies alternate going until everyone has gone and then a new round starts. Or maybe rounds stop being a thing and people just go when it’s been enough time, something like that.

I 100% would run a global campaign here given a chance.
