Crazy seeing such a well made docu on KZbin describing a folktale I grew up with and I don't know when I first learned of Mary Black but I guess She Was a Fairytale the subconscious from before I can remember. Shame to see last names that I know on tombstones of graves that have been vandalized. First I heard of Harry the hermit so thanks guys for that. Very curious as to where you went looking for the grave because friends of mine tried to get me to go and it was off a back road between Wampum and Ellwood City or west Pittsburgh. But maybe I had eaten too many bread crumbs and just don't remember! Thanks guys

I remember one Halloween back in the early 1990's I was sitting in my grandmother's kitchen reading a news article about haunted places in New Castle and by the way I'm from New Castle too lol. And it had the story of Mary Black in it along with the green man and the haunting of coverts crossing and I remember seeing that bridge where the ghost of the girl who would dance on the bridge during prom night and I always had an uneasy feeling going across that bridge before and after I found out a girl drowned there and haunted the bridge at converts crossing. And my father would tell me stories about the green man too. It's awesome hearing this kind of stories and seeing these videos about New Castle PA on KZbin. I hope to find more videos like this one on here.

@@justincopple8222 im actually from wurtemburg just outside of Ellwood City but close enough. Do you remember the turn three times in the mirror...? The neighbor girl was older and used to torture us with that. My little sister never went to another sleepover at her house again! Silly but it's kind of cool, like you said, to see an urban legend that we grew up with on KZbin. And oh, if I may reiterate, kudos to the docu makers! Well done. Also I appreciated the fact that they did it with respect.

@@justincopple8222 not so familiar with green man folk tale & coverts crossing...i have to do more research (ask around)...unfortunately there has been FAR too many drownings in this area. Despite the warnings, kayakers(usually not frm immediate vicinity) &swimmers have lost their lives needlessly. BTW, if u watch the docu again u will see Tindell (sp?) graves, I know the family. Even worked for a small landscaping outfit w one of em.

Awesome video but no mention of "Injun Joe" at the beginning...another peculiar "icon" of our Lawrence County childhood. We would, on rare occasion, see him hitch-hiking westward (probably to the state line) along RT 422.

I saw the stones there in the late 80's. How is it that they were moved at the time you stated, but, i saw them with my own two eyes.. I also noticed they all died around the same months and or year.. The cemetary was shaped like a pentagram and everything inside was dead, but, on the outside of the pentagram, lilly;s bloomed!

I live in Lawrence County and 20 min from MB's grave site. It was easy to drive to but hard to walk to the grave site. I have visited it a couple of times in my late teens, her head stone was there. I again visited in my early 30's, the head stone was moved by this time. The grave site was messed up back in the late 70's, kids just can't leave these things alone and at rest. It's a shame.

the “green man” was a family friend. i never met him, but he was just a man who got in an accident. he never wanted to scare people, so he only went out at night. i know that’s not what this stories about, but it’s important to me.

Born and raised in New Castle and Shenango TWP. I've been in the alleged house she lived in on Snake Run Road before they tore it down in 1985, been to what's left of the old Tindall Cemetary near West Pittsburgh. Kinda curious to know which way they went into that part of the cemetary. There a dirt mound you can walk over that leads to the old Rod and Gun Lake, and there's a few gravestones laying around right there. Last time I went to try to get to the other part, the swamp had flooded it out.
