Stadtbahn and Trams in Düsseldorf, Germany 🇩🇪 | Rheinbahn | 2023

Düsseldorf "Stadtbahn" and trams (Düsseldorf Straßenbahn) are backbone of public transport in Dusseldorf. They serve different parts of the city. On some lines, the light rail operates beyond the city limits of Düsseldorf to the neighboring cities of Neuss, Meerbusch, Krefeld, Duisburg and Ratingen. Initially, construction of metro (Düsseldorf U Bahn) in Dusseldorf was planned, but in 1970s, the city has decided to get a Stadtbahn system instead. First line with multiple branches have high-floor trams in use, and the Wehrhahn line which opened in 2016 is served by low-floor Stadtbahn trams. Both lines go through tunnels in the Dusseldorf city center. Stadtbahn is basically the same what is called "LRT" (Light Rail Transit) in countries around the world, especially North America.
The rolling stock seen on the video consists of the following tram types:
- High floor Stadtbahn trams: Duewag GT8SU, Duewag B80D, Bombardier Flexity HF6.
- Low floor Stadtbahn trams: Siemens NF8U.
- City Trams: Siemens NF6, Siemens NF8, Siemens NF10.
In this video you can see all of these tram types - old Duewag trams (like Stadtbahnwagen B) are still in operation and are not fully replaced yet by the new Bombardier Flexity trams. Düsseldorf Stadtbahn and trams are operated by Rheinbahn. First part of the video has been filmed in Dusseldorf, the final part is from Duisburg.This 4K UHD video has been filmed in August 2023 and it shows the everyday life of Stadtbahn and Trams in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Hi, bei 6:43 ist ein kleiner in den Untertiteln: Beim einfahrenden Zug handelt es sich um einen B80C, nicht B80D. Zwei Hinweise im Video, die das untermauern: 1. Das Fahrzeug hat das Logo der DVG, also Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft. Duisburg setzt B-Stadtwagen vom Typ B80C ein. 2. Scheinwerfer. Die B80C haben getrennte Leuchten, die äußeren Leuchten sind für die Front, die inneren Leuchte stellen Rück- und Bremslicht dar. Bei den B80D der Rheinbahn ist die Anordnung umgekehrt und in einem Rechteck eingefasst.

Nettes Video mit vielen Erinnerungen an meine Geburtsstadt. der Hinweis bei 10:21 das die "Oberkasseler Brücke" die einzige Brücke sei auf der Strassenbahnen fahren (Stadtbahnen) stimmt so nicht, zumidest in der VErgangenheit fuhr die Linie 709 über die Südbrücke (heutzutage Josef-Kardinal-Frings Brücke) von D - Gerresheim Krankenhaus nach NE - Theodor-Heuss Platz. Ich weiss natürlich nicht, wie die Linien heute fahren, lebe ja schon etwas länger nicht mehr in Düsseldorf. Aber laut Rheinbahn Linienauskunft fährt die Linie 709 auch heute noch von D - Gerresheim Krankenhaus nach jetzt NE - Hauptbahnhof, aber bis zur Südbrücke ist die Fahrstrecke ziemlich identisch.

Ich habe eher an das Stadtbahnnetz gedacht, da dies der einzige Ort ist, an dem eine Stadtbahnlinie den Fluss überquert. Aber im Großen und Ganzen hast du recht, auch die „normale“ Straßenbahnlinie 709 überquert den Fluss über eine andere Brücke :)

I find it wild the stadtbahn platforms you show are wildly long, but only 2-car sets ever run at a time. Can longer sets potentially run or are some platforms too short?

Good question to be honest, I don't know the system so precise. Possibly this was planned to handle 3-car (or even 4-car) sets in future, like it happens in North American cities like Denver, Calgary or Edmonton.

7:42 The Unit "4102" is actually one of the 3 remaning Buffet Units. They were removed at some point.

TBH, that's quite an interesting thing, I've seen a non-standard layout of doors on these units, but I don't know the context and history of them. Were they with buffets previously? 😶

@@Aviationvlad They were used on 2 Mainlines, Linie K, the one to Krefeld and Linie D, the one to Duisburg. But now as they dont have the Buffet, they just drive on any line, Like on the U78. Fun Fact: the GT8S (a Tram which got made redundant in 2010) had a Buffet version too, which luckily is now getting modernised so we can go and check it out in the Museum at Am Steinberg.
