Now that you KNOW that the marshmallow man will be okay, try to rewatch that bit again. The real stay puft marshmallows were on Dana's kitchen counter earlier. When he climbs the building it's a King Kong reference. Obviously he catches fire, because that's what happens to marshmallows when you roast them too much. Even his destruction is harmless. Just a big SPLAT on the bad guy, who's then clearly alright. And if you turn off the sound? If you also think about it from a filming point if view. Obviously it isn't real. So precisely whow did they get the different bits on film? And where are the borders between techniques. The Stay Puft bit isn't just one take, but different tricks.🤔

I saw this as a young teen in 1984. You were right about the kids really liking it. Ghostbuster TShirts were common for a long time and songs from the soundtrack were on the radio for years. And yes, the lady ghost scene did cause discomfort with a lot of parents because they feared the questions later.

Bill Murray is in Caddyshack, his character is funny in that one, but Rodney Dangerfield stole that show. If you haven't seen it, it's has a very good chance to make your best movie ever list.

I like caddyshack, but its energy died about 25 minutes in. I think it was the lack of continuity between the opening Danny/family story to when the Carl Spackler character entered.

Rodnicious Dangerfieldder steals EVERY show. When I was born the nurse slapped me. The doc got in a few good hits too. Every time my wife wears heels she strikes oil. The doc told me to quit smoking, so I decided I'd only smoke after sex. I haven't had a cigarette in two months, but my wife's now on two packs a day.

Dawn Marie, if you really want to get over your phobia I recommend immersion therapy, you start by slowly becoming used to interacting with the thing which is causing the problem, in your case I suggest maybe looking at a picture of it say once a week until you're able to tolerate it, then once you're ready perhaps interact with a small model of it until you're okay with that, and then watch those bits of this film which bother you, a few minutes at a time until you can cope with watching it all without the fear.

The slime is literally an element from the Victorian era, when spiritism and occultism were actually very popular. Ectoplasm was indeed a slimy substance connected with seances and spirit mediums and manifestations. It's really quite fascinating if you look into it, puts a whole different perspective on the time period.

I had sunstroke and was delirious as a kid when we watched the original Dune on TV. I had nightmares about sand dunes for years! The best way is just to introduce Mr Stay Puft into your life bit by bit until you just get used to him. Felt so sorry for you watching him! ❤ It’s called “exposure therapy” if you want to look it up. It’s not as naughty as it sounds.

I went to college at Columbia, the university shown in the early scenes, and had a student job in the library. I literally worked in the reading room and back shelves where the first ghost appears. I graduated in 1981, so the film was made after I left. Things are less scary when you have something to hold on to. A boyfriend, pet, pillow, or plush toy. Also, remember a marshmellow man won't eat you - you eat it.

In the original script, the giant monster was going to be the Pillsbury Dough Boy. I don't know if you know that character in your country. The mascot for Pillsbury cookie dough, bread dough, etc. Instead, it would have been this really large version. They couldn't get permission to use the image because they didn't want their cute little mascot to be seen as scary. Instead, they created a fictional mascot by combining The Pillsbury Dough Boy with Bibendum aka the Michelin Man. You can see 2 references to Stay Puft earlier in the movie: A bag of Stay Puft Marshmallows are next to Dana's eggs that explode and fry, and as an advertisement on the wall of a building you can see when the ghosts are freed and burst through the ceiling of their headquarters.

There was a game for the Commodore 64 (that was what we had for computers back in the day), that featured a character called "Mr Meringue", and several other recognizable monsters w/ slightly different names. I suspect that the studio spent all their endorsement budget for the rights to use Godzilla.

Ghostbusters is not a kids movie, but they did advertise it to kids. This happened a lot in the 80's. I had an Ed-209 toy growing up as a kid from the movie Robocop. Crazy times.
