0:20 Critics and people ARE afraid to say anything negative about this movie. Especially after James Rolfe aka AVGN made a very calm video explaining why he wouldn't be seeing it. It was probably the least offensive video I've watched regarding Ghostbusters 2016. He was viciously attacked by people calling him sexist, racist, misogynist, and even his wife and family were insulted on national publications. The people who like this film defend it with cult-like obedience. It's honestly fucking disturbing the lengths they're willing to go to attack others who criticize it. The strongest message people can send is to avoid seeing this film at all costs.

I know. This one guy kept acting like we said it sucked because it stars females, and then went, "I'm not talking about the quality of the film. I'm talking about sexist pigs." Everything I gave the guy, he acted like it didn't exist, and kept acting like I'm saying it sucked because of the women. The person was insane and stupid. Sony and the director have been acting like every single critic of this film are sexist assholes, quick to pretend that women critics of this film don't exist, and much quicker to bash male critics of this film. Their was a film series by Midnight Edge that showed off everything wrong with the producers, the director, and the movie itself in great detail, and in a neutral point of view.

People say people are being sexist toward this new Ghostbusters movie. But the movie itself is sexist towards Men. They make the women seem so smart, as smart as rocket scientist, and they make the men seem dumb as a doorknob. The dude says "Wow, that's loud", and he covers his eyes with his hands instead of covering his ears with his hands. They make the one guy seem so dumb it really doesn't make any sense, no one is that dumb, no one lacks that much common sense. My cat is smarter then that assistant guy in the movie. It seems like a bitter woman that's sexist against men wrote the entire script for the movie. The movie is really horrible.

Even if it didn't look horrible I think I would feel REALLY uncomfortable seeing the film because of the things the director and cast have said about those criticizing the project. Sure you can say they were "only talking about some people" but it felt like they were making the conversation about sexism. And honestly people involved in the production of a film should NEVER use "adult who lives in his mom's basement", "has no friends and no spouse" as insults, if sexism is the problem just say they are sexist, using those insults just seems immature, anti-nerd, and frankly a bit hurtful to nice people that have said nothing about this movie that happen to be somewhat ant-social. I know trolls can be annoying but they should have tried to just promote this film in a positive way that wouldn't end up further insulting the fans of this franchise.

It has terrible plot, terrible ideas and terrible directions, NONE of the problems are connected to the female cast...and yet the people who made it are using the female cast AS SHIELDS, OBJECTS, to defend themselves from any criticism. This is the same as a paper using naked women to sell, but in reverse. They say "the movie has to be good, because we put women in there". And anyone who uses that point to defend this shit is sexist as fuck and shall admit it. I wouldn't have mind if the original had his sexes reversed, but no amount of shit can save bad writing. (takes head out of hands) Okay, now that the furor has calmed a little, can I have my say? I am in my mid 30's, I saw Ghostbusters at about five/six years of age and it was a total game changer for me and many of my friends at school. We had never seen anything like it before. In the 1980's, we had some of the lamest movies around - especially for kids - like "American Rabbit" (sighs). Then, Ghostbusters came along. A movie designed for adults and kids (it was PG in the UK) and it worked on so many levels. At that age, I was terrified of ghosts and the paranormal, again like many kids. And then GB came along with the message "Science? Oh, yeah... Science can kick the paranormals butt." So, for me - and this will be from my angle - it was such a shockingly deep and resonant message. Hell, I fell in love with science that day and I will be frank that GB may have led me to become interested in real and science fiction. Hell, it may have been one of the reasons I got a science degree. :) The movie itself, as I grew up, took on new angles of comedy. I went from 5 years of age loving the slime, the effects and how cool Egon and Ray were, to my current age where I can now appreciate the witty word play, dark and adult humour (that went over my head back then LOL) and comedic lines that the film has. So, yes, I think I can say I am a GB geek and it was part of my childhood. I refuse to apologise for that. So, you will understand if I feel a little bruised and battered with what has been going on. I have watched the feminists saying if you dislike the reboot you're sexist and a manchild and to "grow up" if you feel it's stolen your childhood. I have watched the official media backing them up and saying any hatred is all about the girls from insecure males and childish geeks. I have watched forum comments of various men and women commenters telling each other to grow up with bile and hatred. So, what I will say is this: "I have no interest in seeing this film and it has nothing, NOTHING to do with the girls. It has a little to do with the nostalgia of my childhood and how good the 1st one is. It has EVERYTHING to do with the comedic style of this film, the comments from Sony and the crew around it and the director!" I have watched the trailers, seen the little documentary films for it, the magazine comments and articles. I gave it every chance the first time it was announced. When it was revealed we had a female crew for this one, I was kinda excited. I was thinking "Tina Fey could be a great Venkman version... Melissa McCarthy could be a great Ray version! Zoe Saldana as Winston. Julia Louise Davis as Egon!" and "We can have the old crew hand off to the new crew! New tech!" Then it started to fall apart in front of my eyes. Paul Feig (and I liked Bridemaids) was announced as director. This guy, while talented, was SO not the right guy for the job. His humour, even in bridemaids, is primarily physical and slapstick - not GB's humour of primarily witty word play and character dynamics. Then Chris Helmsworth was introduced as a... humm... well, a moron. My heart sank. I was hoping he was going to be the villain, as Chris can do "chilling" very well and it would have been excellent to see the female crew going up against an - for want of a better word - alpha male/god type and kicking his ass. Then, upon finding the GB teaser site, I got to see the technology. How crude the stuff looked, how fisherprice it looked compared to the 1980's packs, traps and tech. Nothing looked like it would actually work... it looked like bad cosplay, OKAY? Now this may not seem important, but it was for me. How do you belive in the universe, in the tech, if the stuff they use look like it's made of plywood and ductape rather than metal, electronics, and a shit tonne of improvisation. Then the script was partially leaked, the Sony hack happened and a LOT of info got released into the public eye that revealed that the Villain is the GB logo (turned out to be true), that there was a dance scene (turned out to be true) and that the entire movie was slapstick and physical humour at the base level - Queefs, slime, farts etc. (turned out to be true). Like they were trying to "out cartoon" the cartoon version and succeeded!! (Man, the cartoon. Even that was dark in places for a kids show... remember the sandman episode. When he turned dreams into nightmares to go after Winston. Creepy.) Despite all of this, ALL OF IT, I said to my wife: "If the reviews are good. We'll go see it." Well, they haven't been, they aren't good at all. Empire, Angry Joe (a fellow balanced fan), and... and.... (sigh). I have now heard and seen enough clips to see where this has headed. And it's bad guys. Bad. So, no. I cannot bring myself to see it. The fact it exists makes my heart sink as it HAS tarnished memories of the original for me a little. The fact I will have to say "I loved GB, the original!!" to people. More importantly, it has made me sad that our biggest and most positive chance to rebirth GB for both the new and current generation of fans has been squandered and turned into something that is so mediocre, so bog standard in it's humour it's going to be forgotten faster than we can imagine. We have lost the chance for a witty, smart, comedy movie (a rarity now). We have lost a chance for a TV show (it could have worked so well... franchise, new ghost threats, interplay... man.), we have lost the chance for a decent 2nd GB game like the 2007 one with the new crew (not the game they HAVE released. The reviews... the reviews...) It makes me sad, it depresses me. It's not the end of the world, no. But it hurts, hurts my heart and my hope for GB's revivial as it should be. Because if it does get revived due to this movie, it's going to be in this format... and that is even more depressing and love hurting to the point I don't want it to happen. (sighs) Made myself sad. Going to play the game and maybe watch the original to cheer myself up.

They didn't even have to kill the rest of the original Ghostbusters to make this a proper sequel that actually worked. The movie could have easily started off with the original cast all mourning the death of Egon...every last one of them standing around his grave as the rain poured down. Then one of them, likely Winston, would go on to say that they were really getting too old for this...because Egon died during an attempted bust. So, they all decide that it's time to call it quits...but Egon's daughter is ademently against it and is butting heads with the original team. Ultimately, she decides fuck them and forms the new Ghostbusters, the second generation seeking to pick up where the old left off. They could have started off awkward but then progressed throughout the movie as learning the ropes rather quickly only to then find themselves facing something that required getting the original team on board. Maybe some new high-end prototype proton-pack that actually resulted in Egon's death, but they now needed in order to defeat the main villain. So, they had to convince the original team that this was their only hope...but with the way Egon died, this would have created a dynamic where the original team was torn. Could have even had flashbacks explaining Egon's death and how badly it tore the original team apart...but ultimately, the greater good would win and they would concede. So, managing to convince them, they could have all came together at the end and finished off the villain together, thus leaving the original team ultimately giving them their blessing while the next generation began to spread the business across the United States and then the world...opening the possibility for countless teams, countless films, set anywhere and everywhere...without defecating on the lore. The end of the fucking movie COULD have then been a slow zoom onto a picture of Egon smiling within their main headquarters while everyone celebrated the rebirth of the business...a tribute to both Egon and the man behind the character, Harold himself.

Fuck me, I found a script in the youtube comments section that was better than this movie. This is exactly what needed to be done. Also it's hilarious how in one of the original trailers they implied this movie was a sequel with "4 scientists 30 years ago" blah blah, then it turns out to be a complete remake. You can really tell absolutely no effort went into this piece of shit.

Both Paul Feig and Amy Pascal messed up this movie. As much as I would like to blame Paul Feig, Amy Pascal and her insistence of a reboot really messed this up. If I am correct, Paul Feig was hesitant about being the director. If it went through the parody route, then it could been successful...I think. The movie industry has gotta stop with these series that shouldn't deserve reboots.

Nobody asked for a Ghostbusters reboot. Most of the fans wanted a simple sequel. We wanted Ghostbusters 3. Unfortunately, Dan Aykroyd couldn't get that project off the ground and we had to settle with the video game (which is still as close as we're gonna get to a proper sequel).

Oscar, the son Dana Barrett, could have been the main villain. He is so powerful because of all the supernatural things that happen to him as a baby, making him a conduit for demons or whatever. The thing that annoys me the most about this film: 1. The director, the actresses etc all were butchering people who criticized the trailers for looking bad, by making them look like sexist manchildren. 2. Next thing we know, the film shows any men that show up being portrayed as incompetent dumb jerks. But I suppose that sexism versus men is fine because, well they're men so they have no feelings and don't need to be respected? I don't care about comedy being sexist because as a genre comedy can go places that no other genre can so it can work as a bold method of addressing issues in society. I can take a lot when it comes to comedy, whether it's addressing stereotypes, sexism etc. because I have a high tolerance for basically anything. But a film team that goes fully blown hypocrite on me like Paul Feig and his crew is just too much to bear. And that's even not counting things like, as Joe said, the main female characters are portrayed as incompetent bumbling idiots and not as eccentric but intelligent people like in the original two films. Or the pussy and crack jokes, or the dick shot at the end, or the racial stereotypes or...........I could go on. This film is a trainwreck and, as much as I love the first two films, I hope that this is where production of crap like this 3rd film ends. Paul Feig turned into the Ghostbusters version of Michael Bay, just awful.

I'm beginning to believe that feminists (feminazis, whatever you feel like calling them) think most to all men don't care if they get made fun of in any way because they don't cause an uproar about it like feminists do if women are made fun of in any way, so it automatically makes it alright to do so. That, or they're just hypocrites.
@glaeli11848 жыл бұрын
+Halowars10232 that, or they managed to convince you that shits like this movie have something to do with feminism, while in reality, like in this case, it's the movie itself that is actually insulting to women, but by the power of marketing they managed to make everything about their "women leads" and not about how actually horrible the product is. Please see past it, this abomination is only about money, if anything real feminist should only feel insulted. Also feminism is about equality, it considers sexism against men to be just as bad. At least there's a bit of equality in this movie... it's equally insulting Dx
@EpicMrbilly8 жыл бұрын
Lutz I I explained when I first said Feminist that I meant the crazy bastards who think women are the only good people in the world, "Feminazis" as the internet likes to call them. I'm aware the movie is equally insulting to both genders, portraying men as dumbasses and women as these consistently non-funny people who make fun of men and find it hilarious (I don't know if they directly make fun of men in the movie, having not seen it myself, but from what I've heard I'm just gonna assume they do and not be surprised if it's true), while being nothing but a cash-grab on a license with 1 supposedly great film, and another supposedly "okay at best when compared to the original" film. I know the real feminism is about equality for all, and that's fine and dandy by me, but these feminazi assholes, like the director and some of the directors followers, are the ones that grind my gears.
@glaeli11848 жыл бұрын
Halowars10232 agree about the "feminazi" plague, can't stand it at all. But whoever made this movie isn't a feminazi, they are just money greedy bastards. Don't know about director&Co tho, but if they actually are feminazis then there's something seriously wrong with them, because they managed to create one of the worst exemple of "women-power movie" ever. I absolutely can't believe they'll watch this thing thinking "we really did a good job" D:

it wasn't the head of Sony saying it - it was the chief exec of distribution.. and he has about as much say as what gets greenlit as i do. lol... and his quote was more along the lines of "i could definitely see one happening" - not - "one is definitely happening".... let's face facts, this movie needs to cross $500mil (according to Paul Feig himself) in order to break even - and it's only at $75mil worldwide - and it might finish at somewhere close to $250mil world wide if it's lucky.... no way is a sequel getting greenlit - not when Sony will have to eat almost $200mil... what Sony is doing by releasing that statement is trying to drum up publicity, so they stay in the news and drive stupid people out to theaters, 'cause they'll be thinking "oh a sequel announced already? it must be good then, we'll have t go see it." .... don't be fooled, Sony right now are in serious trouble, and they're doing anything to drive people to see this piece of crap... because had this been the same exact movie, with the same exact jokes - just gender swapped, so it was 4 male leads - this movie would be universally panned, and probably would be sitting at a 0% on RT and a 1* on IMDB.

First they came for Marvel, then they came for Ghostbusters, and now they're going to do the same exact thing with Stargate some time this or next year. What's with Hollywood making all of these fucking obvious cashgrabs? Christ, it's like they don't even understand that the legacy of a franchise and its story are exactly the reasons as to why they were enjoyed by so many in the first place. When you destroy ten+ years of story (at least, this was the case for Stargate) and plot development just to make a movie for some cash, only for it to turn out terrible, how do you think people are going to react?
@danartheron98448 жыл бұрын
The recent marvel films have been good
@Gogglesofkrome8 жыл бұрын
Dan Artheron certainly, but it doesn't change that they'd been doing reboot after reboot when it comes to super hero films. Spiderman's been rebooted 3(?) times already, from what I could guess.

What? I've just recently gotten into Stargate, watching SG-1 and Atlantis. What is the name of these cash grabs so I'll know what to avoid.
@Gogglesofkrome8 жыл бұрын
Bryan P. There aren't any yet. What im talking about in particular is that the guy who made the original Stargate film just got the stargate license back from the folks who were working on SG-1 (which in my opinion, was the apex of the franchise from season 2 and on, including Stargate Atlantis, but not so much SGU). The director who plans on making a reboot is making the whole series moot, effectively ruining 10+ years of otherwise fantastic story. The only actual similarity between the reboot and this current series would be the Stargate, and the 'ancient aliens (in this case, Egyptian aliens) trope that frankly really doesn't need to be re-explored, but the new director obviously thinks otherwise. None of the characters will be in the new stargate, nothing.

The movie is fine. You cannot make a sound judgement on a film you've never seen. There are films out there that are way worse. Some mild chuckles throughout with a good cast that had good chemistry. Albeit with a really stupid, excessive, and nauseating 3rd act but pretty much every blockbuster is like that now. Quit overreacting. This movie is decent.

The original story and characters are being erased by this disrespectful movie!!

All I gave were 4 hardy chuckles. One being when Wiig was at the restaurant trying to warn the Mayor of the city to evacuate. Clearly, he doesn't listen but when she says to him, "You're being just like the mayor in Jaws." He chuckles a little like it doesn't bother him and then suddenly snaps and yells at her "DON'T YOU EVER COMPARE ME TO THE MAYOR IN JAWS! EVER!" That made me chuckle a bit. The second was at the concert and the ghost rests on Patty's shoulders. Third being Kevin's interview about bringing his cat to work, which is actually his dog named "Mike Hat" and it keep going from there. Fourth I can't remember, but it'll come to me.

@zuhaibmahmood25388 жыл бұрын
+killmefam That's also true, but let's face facts, the movie would have gotten slightly better reviews if it were an all male cast regardless of the script. This isn't because men are just better, it's just that some roles are designed for a specific gender to play, wether it'd be male or female, or else the entire role seems a bit off and weird. Some roles just suit men better than women and vice versa.

Just watched the new movie. The hilarious part about this situation is that the new movie makes women look much more stupid than men by making the protagonists all stereotypes and very idiot-prone and that neofeminists are still supporting the film. I mean, what message does that show? That you're defending stupid because you're a part of it or that you're defending it because you're thinking that's empowerment? The new movie is outright morally disgusting and is sexist both ways; no one should be defending or supporting this cashgrab.

The other way I could see doing a sequel is that you have it center around a group of friends that have bought a Ghostbuster franchise and their trails and tribulations as they find themselves facing more than they bargained for.

I rarely go to the movies anymore. The last film I saw was Star Wars 7, and before that, I seriously can not remember. Movies like this are why I don't bother anymore. They just keep churning out utter shit. I did not and will not see this because of how they treat the previous generation in terms of lore and it's actors. To basically shit on everything they did and how it doesn't matter, is the purest form of disrespect. At least in my eyes. The made-up plot Joe describes at the end of this is something I would have a lot more interest in watching.

So that funny moment you mentioned. The one where she's flying around with the proton pack... That was a glitch in the 2009 video game they talked about in an interview with Game Informer. If you aimed an ectoplasm hose at the ground in the Wii version it lifted you up. They wanted to leave it in as an Easter Egg but couldn't reproduce it on other consoles and they didn't want any version to be different from another.

Danny Phantom was kind of like Spiderman with Ghosts instead of mutants/tech/aliens/etc. as the supernatural means. I think the point of the character was to be a bit of a dick like Peter Parker at times. I don't want something like that lumped in with this movie. I can't even seem to tell what happened with this, whether it was executive meddling, incompetent writing, or if the director just doesn't do well with these types of films.

I didn't see it because it looked terrible in the trailers. And I personally don't think Melissa Mccarthy is funny at all. She always plays the bumbling, goofy fat chick in like, every role ive seen. But judging from the reviews, complaints, and people talking about the staff, directors, and actors insulting the fans of the franchise and calling then sexist for not liking the movie ....and the film actually being truly bad...well it all reminds me of the situation with the Last Jedi. Sounds nearly identical to the drama and situation going on with the Star Wars franchise right now.
