10 years later and I still declare this to be the TRUE Ghostbusters lll. I love the effort put into Tobin's Sprit Guide, which is the game's lore book. There's also breakdown descriptions for how the upgrades really do benefit you. The characters act like themselves, giving this game a true continuation to the previous movies. The Rookie himself is neutral and a blank slate, allowing you to put yourself in the shoes of a real Ghostbuster. Hell, even if this game allowed you to pick your own gender for the Rookie, there won't be much difference since the main cast always give the Rookie markers, like Junior, Cadet, Rook, Ace, and Scooter, Similar to Noble Six from Halo Reach; Noble Team always calling your spartan avatar Six, with some pronouns during certain scenes.

god damn the memories of this game, this is by far one of the most enjoyable games i've ever played hands down. from learning the ghost, destroying the environment, the cursed artifacts, upgrades, characters, everything. I beat this on the hardest difficult this summer after visiting my moms house and replaying it and god damn do I still love it. If you haven't picked this game up yet I highly HIGHLY encourage you to do so.

This game and its story is hectic! Which is exactly what a Ghostbusters game is supposed to be! The gameplay is frustrating but enough to be satisfying when you complete a level and the levels are nice and long too! The best part is having all the original cast make their triumphant return as their rightful characters with a few added bonuses being Alyssa Milano and Brian Murray! Finally a piece of media that has both Bill and Brian Murray! Lastly the humor is just spot on! I don’t think there’s ever been a dull moment (other than whenever I accidentally got myself lost in these immense levels) where I didn’t laugh! The jokes are so well-timed and Bill just kills it with his sarcasm it’s almost genius at times considering whatever situation he’s in! Everyone else did very very well too! Ramis, Akroy, Potts, Hudson, they all did a fantastic performance!!! Everyone has a constitutional (yes I said constitutional) right to rightly consider this Ghostbusters 3! It plays like a true Ghostbusters game while at the same time, it appears as a true Ghostbusters movie which in full, this game is a perfect balance of being a game AND a movie

But what about Shandor being in the movie? Because in the game he was buried in New York and became disillusioned with Gozer and wanted to take his place as the Destructor by the end of this game. In the new movie his body was in Oklahoma and was all happy and wanting to rule by Gozer when they were both awoken in the movie.

There also remains the fact that Shandor’s attitude was completely opposite from the game as he was disillusioned with Gozer and wanted to take his place and in the movie he was completely enamored with Gozer and wanted to rule with Gozer and the fact that both Jason and Ivan Reitman said on separate recent occasions that they don’t consider the game canon. But don’t take any of this as me not wanting this to remain canon. I loved this game and want nothing more for it to be considered canon and brought up in any potential sequels. I also know that Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis both worked on and wrote the story of the game and they considered it essentially Ghostbusters III. I take their words over any, but it would be a shame if the last Ghostbusters media with all four of the original actors that was considered canon by the writers was then made non-canon like in Star Wars.

A few surprising differences between this game and the original: In the original, Azetlor appeared as a large, blue worm-like monster (A literal bookworm you might say) The boss made from black slime looked very different The Spider Witch had a more cartoony, monstrous appearance The final fight with Shandor had him as a more human form with a black and red cloak, and he was normal sized. Additional dialogue of things like Azetlor murdering the Gray Lady and the more graphic details of what the Spider Witch did to her victims were non existent.

For those who don’t know Aykroyd and Ramis included a lot of ideas from the Ghostbusters 3 script they were writing at the time a long with some ideas that were cut from the original two movies. It’s not 100% the same Ghostbusters script but it’s the closest we will ever get to Ghostbusters 3. Aykroyd has said that this game is “essentially Ghostbusters 3”. Another fun fact is that Sigourney Weaver initially declined to do the game but once she heard that Bill Murray was involved she wanted to do it but it was too late. The game was too far into development by that time so they couldn’t work in Dana into the story / game. That’s a shame. I love Sigourney and I would have loved to see her in this game. But this game is such a hidden gem and a love letter to Ghostbusters fans. It’s not the most polished game but damn is it fun as hell. I consider it to be a cult classic
