I agree. Ernie was in the second half of the original film, and was in most of Ghostbusters 2, and played an integral part during the finales. It always bugged me that he wasn't on the first film's posters. I love the original GB2 poster though! Ernie rocks, as does his character of Winston, though I was kind of hoping that Ray would be the one to bring the Ecto 1 back to the firehouse, since he was the one who found the car originally. It felt off in Afterlife for Winston to be taking it back to NYC. If they make another film with the originals, I want both Ray and Winston to have equal say in bringing the busting business back.

I've heard of this "Amazon Exclusive" set, but this is my first time actually seeing it (I think). Looks like a really rad set, I'm sure Ghostbusters fans will be to see that the 2016 movie isn't part of this set. I still need to see "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" at some point. Also pretty cool to see some new features like more deleted scenes and alternate takes. I do have the old "Green Box" Ghostbusters set I bought from FYE one time. That was a pretty cool set back in the 2000's. Also notably one of the features on the "Ghostbusters 2" DVD was two episodes of "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon, and one of the episodes coming from the "Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters" era.

I get the feeling that most of the cut contents of Ghostbusters II were better than most of the actual movie. That scene where Ray was possessed is such a depressing casualty. They really should have kept that in, it looks like it could have given some urgency and danger to the story. Though I'm still wondering myself if Slimer pestering Louis being a running gag is funnier than Slimer just appearing out of context as a bus driver, only for Louis to let out an unenthusiastic "Oh. It's you." That's the biggest laugh the film consistently gets out of me. Also, Peter saying he wants lunch when the Mayor asks what they want from him? No wonder Peter and Garfield are so intertwined.

Thank god for reviews. I had intentions to buy this Ultimate Collection because I thought the deleted scene of Ray driving the Ecto-1A while possessed by Vigo WAS gonna be included. But NOPE!!! So thank you for sparing me the disappointment man. It be cool if we can see more audition tapes of other characters in the future, cause I remember reading somewhere that the Judgement Day conversation is what they used to audition actors for Winston. Maybe rehearsal tapes of casted actors/actresses and auditioned actors/actresses acting out moments in the film, moments in the Sedgwick Hotel or the Firehouse.

I had a friend back in 89 who went to the pictures to see it (UK) and I only could get the comic, and I remember the possession of Ray, and Shem looking for a ride in echo 1, and always just thought sherm was cut out pre filming, as somewhere along the line I read the Driving montage in GB2 was the clips of Rays possessed driving.

Glad you managed to get your hands on this set! It's pretty great for what it is. I was gonna hold off and maybe buy it in a few months, but as soon as it sold out on Amazon, I panic-bought it on the Walmart website for $100 (US). Glad I did because it's already being gouged to hell on Amazon (the price has more than doubled), and seems to be unavailable pretty much everywhere. I'm surprised its release has been so limited. Hopefully more will be produced in the future, since I think _Ghostbusters_ fans would really dig it for the most part. The workprint of the first movie was the thing I was most excited about, and was the first thing I watched. Weirdly enough though, I don't know that I'd watch it ever again. The roughness of it-- especially the lack of music-- made it kind of a rough sit for me. You don't think about how much music impacts a film until it's no longer there. For me, a lot of the scenes just lacked that... "oomph" without the score or theme playing over the top of them. But I'm glad I got to see it at least once.

The crazy thing about this video is that it reminded me that for years I've been putting the stickers from the DVD cellophane inside the cases or on the back of the slipcover to keep them as part of the set and always thought I was the only weird person on the planet who had such an odd completionist habit...glad to know there's at least TWO of us, Phelan...🚫👻👍 My other weirdo tendency is I'll sometimes tuck the receipt inside the case in order to be surprised by it, possibly years or even a decade or more later, and they're like little time capsules... I know...I'm weird. 📀 🤷‍♂️ It's also been a fun fact for many years (to me, and me only!) that the very first scenes ever shot for this movie, the Louis/Vinz stuff you mentioned that was captured on the very first day of photography, was shot on the day I was born. I have a framed facsimile of the day one callsheet in my office. Not sure who in this life gets to know that they share almost a blood connection to their favorite movie but hey, there it is... One last thing, @1:23:32 of the new Ghostbusters workprint cut (or whatever they're calling it) is that Jason Reitman evacuating Dana's building with Catherine Reitman being carried along beside him? Can we pretend that they are the same characters when they both show up in GB2? 😄

I love how “Answer the call” was just included in the Ultimate Collection as a temporary code as if to say that it sort of exists in the ghostbusters canon, but not really. I think Paul Feig was pretty sour about this and I can’t remember if it was on a post from his Facebook or on his Twitter page that showcased his salty-ness.

Answer the Call is its own little thing, and it comes across as a placeholder film because Sony wanted to make ANY Ghostbusters film at that point because they knew a true third film wasn't going to happen. It's like an alternate universe fan film, disconnected to the original by story, unlike Afterlife, where the original films do connect. ATC would only be there for completionists who want the full set, even if they don't want to actually watch it.

I'm way more bummed about the lack of the slipcases. The green light is cool but the trouble with every cardboard box set with electronics is that the battery eventually runs out with no means to replace it. I had that happen with the 1966 Batman set and it's honestly even worse there because that one has a giant obviously labelled button to trigger it which now does nothing.

There were always going to be digital copies included so it doesn't really make much sense that they would have gone out of their way to reprint the slips and repackage the sets for the whole run. People just assume 2016 was added because nothing was known of the contents prior to the official press announcement. It doesn't make much sense that Sony wouldn't have even paid attention to Feig considering they were never going to include a physical copy to begin with.

I don't know why he was expecting it to be included as it seems the box set was focused on the main trilogy and his movie is a full reboot with no connection to the other movies.

@@redbigun There was no mention of anything in the set at all because there hadn't even been an official press announcement yet when Feig brought it up. A preorder listing isn't the same as an official press announcement. All that was known about the set was what was shown in that promo image, so anything people were saying at the time was pure speculation. Most major releases in this day and age come with digital streaming codes so it was pretty much a given that there would at least be codes for the other 3 films. I was away camping the day the press announcement came out and you'd think people would have been ecstatic over what had just been announced to be included as bonus content but no, the first thing I woke up to was my Facebook feed being bombarded by endless posts of people throwing a hissy fit over the goddamn 2016 digital code. I had to look up the press announcement myself just so I could find out what was actually in the set because all anyone wanted to do that day was bitch about a piece of goddamn paper. Again, you have to remember, when the preorder listings first started popping up with that promo image, there had not yet been ANY official announcement from Sony in regards to what was or wasn't included. People had deduced from the image that ATC wasn't going to be included (at least physically) so when Paul Feig made his statement on Twitter, people flipped their shit when the press announcement came out mentioning the ATC Digital code when in all likelihood, it was always going to be included seeing as the other 3 would have been included digitally regardless.
