A Beginner's Guide to Attack Helis for Battlefield 4

A few more tips and comments about TOWs and TVs. Practicing in the test range is good. The problem is, the ways that the TOW is fired from helicopters of different factions(US/RU/CN) are actually different. The Ah-1Z fires TOW from right side of its cockpit, and the the Chinese Z-10W fires it below the cockpit. Same goes for TV missiles. The US TV missiles are often going for the dead centre of the crosshair, while the Chinese TV missiles go under the crosshair a little bit. So I would suggest that real battles are the way to truly master these weapons. Another tip is survival and positioning, and this is kinda essential to me. Similar to how you use a jet, deciding at what range and altitude to engage and disengage your enemies is an important skill IMO. In this tutorial you covered how to survive stingers and RPGs on Shanghai, but attack helis on other maps are pretty useful too. My personal style is staying at a mid to low altitude, and medium to far range from the target. It’d be the best if there is a cover such as mountains and buildings. Especially when you use this Zuni/TOW/TV combo. These weapons all have a relatively far range, and you don’t have to strafe all-in like a jet. I see a lot of people using the attack helicopter would be like pressing w while shooting at a tank, gets focused by secondary gunners, panics and dies to a tank shell. Just sit back like a damn camper, don’t press w and stay still in the air, shoot a couple of TOWs and Zunis, dodge incoming tank shell/TOW/TV/RPG given the far range from the enemy, and profit. Another trick is that, you can actually guide your TOW while shooting rockets, so the fastest way to kill a ground vehicle would be to shoot a TOW first, immediately switch to Zuni, and when the TOW is close to the target, stop firing Zuni since they have slightly different crosshairs, land the TOW, fire the rest of Zuni rockets, shoot another TOW. If the target has no APS, it’s almost a guaranteed kill. Plus the TV and cannon from the gunner, you can even take down MAA.

With all ammo counts, when you spawn, shoot 1 round, then reload. Now instead of having 8/8 zunis you'll have 8/15 zunis loaded. Applies to all vehicles.

I'd suggest using the test range for initially getting used to it but not for actually practicing with the TV/Tow missile because from what I can remember, the sensitivities and input delay is completely different because these two weapons are affected by your ping. On the test range, which runs locally, the TV missile has little to no input lag which makes it much easier to guide it compared to a normal server where you might have 50-60ms ping.

*Quick Tip For TV Misille* : If you experience difficulty in hitting tv misilles, maybe you should change your shot style. There are 2 ways to use it. When you click mouse 1 to fire it (sorry i dont know console setup), either you can hold the mouse button and drag it left right up and down, or simply just click and release, and then click to the direction you want the misille to go. Maybe you will find the other method more handy.

I gotta disagree with you regarding the zuni rockets. I have everything unlocked for the attack helio and hydra are the best ones. In general the attack helio's ammunition takes a while to reload so it's best to go for the one that has the most. We ain't perfect and we will miss shots. That's my personal opinion.

Pretty important to understand the mechanic how ECM actually works: When active, ECM creates a fake image of your air vehicle about 20 meters in front of you. The locked missiles start to orbit that fake image, not your vehicle. The direction of this fake image is decided when you activate it, it is created to the direction your nose is facing the moment you activate it and it stays there for the duration of the ECM. The reason you get hit is because you fly too fast, too slow or turn into those missiles orbiting that fake image. For example, if you activate the ECM and continue flying straight in a same direction (especially in a jet), it's extremely likely that you get hit. Keep this in mind and it comes to you how to use it more effectively. Hard to say specifily how to use it in different situations, but you'll definitely get the feel to it.

I do find stealth coating useful because It gives them more time to lock on and also when you fire you barely appear on the minimap when firing and reduced the time when your spotted. But primarily because you can save ecm when flying away out of the opponents range as fars with lock ons

As for a beginner to average pilot for primary weapons it really depends on personal preference. There is a on going debate weither zunis or hydra rockets are the best overall. It depends on playstyle. Hydra rockets are personally my choice but I do switch to smart rockets for a few reasons For one they're useful if you do have trouble aiming and I would say it's a beginner's choice imo Two they have no drop in comparison to the other two and has average travel speed far more faster than zunis And three unlike any lock ons it doesn't give any warning what's so ever and excels at long range mainly for taking out aa from a distance also they're good if you want to play on a defensive role and not strafe and let your gunner farm from above however there is one con with smart rockets. They do less damage and has the least dps compared to the other two and had the same fire rate as zunis. Other than that the advantage they have over zunis is having more rockets just 10 compared to 8 and have a faster travel speed as zunis Overall what the rockets pods are meant. Hydra for fast firing high capacity, fast traveling rocket pod, zunis for more damage to armor at the cost of less splash damage, requires precision aiming meaning you need to hit all your shots, and having the least capacity, and smart rockets for having trouble with aiming, all around average but at the cost of having the least dps

Yeah true, you can use any of course, but zunis are the glass cannon option. If you're using smart rockets against a zuni pilot he'll shred you so much faster than you can kill him.

Smart rockest are just hydra rockets with built in guidance. Also zunis have the fastest velocity out of all three options. As the AH pilot, your only targets are vehicles and therefore there isn't any reason to use anything other than zunis. They're simply better for the purposes you should be using the rocket pods. There's only one effective "playstyle" regarding AH's and it's the only vehicle which clearly has one "best" loadout and there's absolutely no debate. The only variable can be heats instead of TOW in some competitive 10's matches when those can be more effective helping friendly jet in a dogfight...

No competent heli pilot will ever use anything else.. Hydras nor smarts aren't "underrated" as they're simply worse option if you plan to use the attack heli as it should and not to meme. Zunis are better against armour/vehicles, have 100 m/s better velocity and further range. For infantry you have a gunner. Smarts are just waste of space.

This is what I recommend. After getting good with the transport helicopters it’s easy to fly the faster helicopters. I remember when I could barely even fly but if you just practice you can fly any of the helicopters. I would start out Flying the Huey then the little bird to get used to guns. Then the attack helicopters

Yeah that might have to be a whole other topic for a video, it depends on the angle of your heli, they work pretty much the same way as the Hydra Rockets in the Attack Jet.

It actually works the same on all air vechicles that has access to any sort of rocket pods the only difference is that smart rockets are arguably the easiest rocket pods to use due to the tracking and isnt as bad as when it was first launched and also you have to lead your targets and some of the rockets pods have different travel speeds and drop for Ex. zuni rockets have a slower travel speed compared to the other two and I think has more drop correct me if I'm wrong. Smart rockets dont have drop and travel speed is average but does less damage than the other two also can track targets and doesnt give any warning on vechicles. And hydra rockets have the fastest travel speed, and average drop. But tbh for most aircraft any rockets pods do seem to visually have no drop what so ever but supposedly hydra and zuni rockets have drop and smart rockets don't.

@@MonaxNoire Stop spreading this missinformation on how zunis are slower than the other two missiles when it's literally other way around... Zunis have velocity of 500 m/s while hydras (and smarts which are a hydra clones with guidance) have velocity of 400 m/s. Also there isn't "drop".

@@sbow2892buddy if you look it up and check out the stats of zuni rockets compared to the other two the zuni rockets are much slower than the other two in terms of travel speed, rate of fire that's all the damage is where it excels unlike the other two. its not big of a deal. Edit: I'm saying that hydra rockets would be a good choice for moving targets since the travel speed is faster and has a faster fire rate and high capacity than the other two but if you learn how to lead with zunis than there is no reason to use hydra rockets unless you have trouble aiming and some people do have trouble aiming with zunis which is why they prefer hydra rockets just because of the travel speed, rate of fire, and high capacity difference. And smart rockets is if you like to engage ground targets from a distance but you'll need tow or heatseekers to back it up for aircraft

Ghost, I have a question. I can't really get my hands on the attack helicopter because the second I spawn on it, guys keep asking me to jump out because they are playing with a friend. My attack helicopter has no ECM etc, I mean I almost never played on it even though I'm a decent scout helicopter pilot. How do I deal with that problem? Ignore those guys that ask me to leave?

That's kind of a tough one, a lot of the time the rule on servers is 'pilot picks gunner', so I guess you have to try and get into the pilots seat!

guided misilles wont be able to lock on to a certain altitude , if they are shot from a vehicle. Manpads however, will lock you even if you are down at hell.

For smaller adjustments for roll yes but as far as yaw and ascend/descend with the sticks/triggers you can have a bit more control. All in all it all depends on your understanding and implementation of flying mechanics/ game sense to be a “good” pilot. Flying for your gunner as well is another skill to massively increase your effectiveness.
