I bought this game when I was young and had my parents take it and hide it from me because I found the ghost voices in the school too scary. So glad I was given it back a little while later and gave it another chance. I loved it. Very impressive graphics for its time, too, and amazed that they got Michael Gambon to voice Hawskmoor.

This game is actually the scariest game I ever played! The voices ”free us” in the begining and the crying kid’s in the school! And the poltergeist! And the most scariest part The Montford house which all these creepy ghost kid and their teddybears! Really a nightmare! When I first saw the classic survival horror video game Resident Evil from 1996 for the first time I was seven years old. And when I first saw Ghosthunter I was thirteen years! And even if I was many years older when I saw Ghosthunter it scared me more! So this is the ultimate horror game to me! No other game, not Resident Evil, not Silent Hill, not Project Zero or no other game in the world have ever scared me so much as Ghosthunter! Ghosthunter is not the best game I have played though, just the scariest!

I miss this game. Very difficult and the starting spooked me the hell out, sheets waving about while you hear voices. I borrowed it to a kid next door, he returned it a minute later with a scared look on his face.

I'd say yes, or even an Xbox title if it weren't for the framerate in some situations. This game does also run in 60 frames on some occasions but usually it's round 40-20 range. It uses full color range unlike allot of PS2 games that stuck with grainy 16 bit and it's resolution is exactly what it should be unlike most PS2 games where they had to stretch it horizontally to fit the aspect ratio.

It makes the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4 looked poor in comparison. Ghost Hunter actually had water physics, some cloth physics, and grass collision which games nowadays doesn't even had grass collision. Metal Gear Solid 3 comes to mind when it comes to grass collision.

RE4 was a port so it was never going to be as good, same with stuff like Grandia 2, it was made specifically for another system with different specs.

That is entirely true. Even if PS2 better specs, it would still be shoddy in some areas, but the question how much the port would suffer.

it is a great shame that only a small number of PS2 games support 480p, the fact that most games in the US are 480i and 576i here in PAL regions means that the games don't tend age too well when run through a HD converter box. I love the original ratchet & clank game but i have to say it looks poor.

Honestly, progressive scan on the PS2 doesn't look as good as what Dreamcast, Xbox and GameCube can do. Original Xbox still looks neat on my 32" LCD.

The problem with the PS2 is that it has allot of noise on the component output, which is why some games look better through RGB scart or even s-video (especially for recording). It's a shame tho that under normal circumstances you cant use RGB scart to output 480p. It is possible but most devices simly are not compatible with that.

Wow, the combat in the EU version is absolutely terrible. Namco made a lot of good changes, interesting how the stairs at the beginning are replaced with a ladder as they're destroyed in the NA version. Would be interesting to see all map changes in this game.
