Believe it or not, but most of these stages were actually tourney legal once upon a time! (That is why there are a lot of very old clips in this video)

I can't remember the people involved, but I remember a set which the two people randomed to DK and Falco and went to poke floats. In the set, the Falco died because DK used up throw to send Falco into sudowoodo's arm, where he then teched the hit, and ended up into the upper blast zone because of the stage transition. He literally teched into a star KO

Well, some Tournaments involve pretty decent price money and losing the chance to win a few thousand bucks because the stage interfered is probably pretty frustrating. It add´s too much RNG. But yeah, playing on them if nothing is at risk is super fun. The same goes for items and using those bottom tiers.

+The Qwertynator To be fair, I think the banning reasons linked to hazards are generally pretty overzealous, as there aren't a lot of even random hazards in Melee that aren't fairly predictable with experience. That said, as far as I know most of them are banned more for their absurd blast lines and walls that allow for infinites, aren't they? Because yeah, that's pretty damn understandable.

I could see Brinstar and Mute City. Their hazards are very predictable and non-lethal, and the stages are otherwise well-laid-out. Beyond that, though, none of the banned stages are salvageable.

Ok so this get me angry, KONGO jungle should be legal for tournament use (as a counter pick) in the melee community. When asked "why is this stage banned" most people point to this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4WxknSLf7-ta80 and say its too easy to stall. Why can we ban puff stalling and Samus stalling on battle field, but not stalling on this stage. This stage was prematurely banned and we could have more stages if it were not for it. Another reason is because of the barrel. I don't think the barrel is a problem if we can keep Randall why not the barrel it doesn't make any sense to me. If this stage was legal it would give the meta a long awaited change and make tournaments more interesting.

This kind of stuff is why I think banned stages should occasionally be legalized. Not every time, we don't want people clipping through Wobuffet at Evo, but nonlegal stages add several elements to the game. As seen in the Kirby clips, many character matchups change quite a bit with different stages, such as Jiggs and Kirby being fantastic, with spacies being far less accentuated, on stages such as Poke Floats and Brinstar, while advantage states are practically nullified on walkoffs, as seen with M2K on the last clip. It also helps add more variety to the game, forcing players to rely, more heavily than they ever have, on stage knowledge and character matchups, especially with the increased variety of characters more stages allows for. It wouldn't be nearly as reliant on ridiculous tech skill, seeing as how Fox could have multishined off Ganon on any stage, and would open up new strategies.

Getting random stage jank to use against unfamiiar players doesn't make a character fantastic (and Jiggs doesn't need it. She's a high tier character and one of the top 5 players uses her and has beaten the other top 5 players multiple times). Most of these stages if allowed and played seriously would result in High/top tier characters just camping the shit out of the lower tiers and abusng stage specific jank on their own. Fox and Falco love all these low ceilings vs. floaties, stages without ledges to grab, stages with walkoffs, orjust big stages to run circles around.

May be hype at first, but it gets very boring very quickly. Players need to play each other, with a little reliance on stage knowledge and character matchups, but those are guidelines and not law.

A good number are banned specifically because of the geometry too. Walls allow for infinite combos, for example. Also, some stages have really small blast zones.
