I saw these guys live back in '79 or '80 at the old 9:30 club in Wash DC. Their groove (as good as it is in the studio) was even better live. Everybody was dancing their butt off at that show.

Brings back memories. They made an appearance on a kids show on the Nickelodeon network and were one of the first bands I ever saw that didn't have a drummer.

Ha Ha , I'm afraid I have it , too...The North Brothers (nee Dembling.) , Nick and Ollie (Who was using the name before the other one was well known.) are /were my Sister - in - Law's Brothers (Sadly , Ollie is now deceased.). They were popular in New York , and probably a good part of The East Coast , but , it's true , they were most popular in France.

Oh yes! The Comateens debut LP is such a killer record. Found my copy of it in a used record shop for about a buck (!). Too bad that this is the only song on youtube from that record though...and too bad that they didn't stay this good for the rest of their career.

Were they ever that popular? I haven't heard much about them and have seen one of their videos on beavis and butthead but they seem pretty damn obscure.Did they ever acheive platinum success?
@fontaineannemarie41892 жыл бұрын
they never get platinum. but they are sort of cult band in France. and in the US too, i guess

Sounds so much like Hot Chip. Must be a huge influence.

non, les seconds savent jouer sans inspiration et les premiers ne savent pas jouer tout simplement mais c'est génial

By the time of their 2nd album (which I liked a lot), weren't there just two of them?

Nope! Also, Clinton St. Records in Portland Or. has had multiple copies. A couple friends in SF have it. There also was a 10'' re release of just "Ghost" back in 2000 thanks to French DJ/Producer Ivan Smagghe of Black Strobe. It is uncommon and for sure a killer tune....the mini korg at it's finest!!!
