My aunt worked for Eastern Airlines back then and the stories of the haunting in all the airplanes that EA furnished with parts of 401 were a thing. The most interesting part was that people didn’t know until stuff started happening that there were parts in the aircraft. The hauntings always happened when there was something dangerous the crew needed to know.

Yep never happened the parts were never fitted to another plane she’s full of crap here is proof this is all made up Serling's 1980 book From the Captain to the Colonel: An Informal History of Eastern Airlines, the claim that wreckage from Flight 401 was installed and later removed from other Eastern aircraft was false, and no Eastern employees had ever claimed to have seen or believed in the alleged ghost sightings. So you’re either lying or your aunt made it up. Please use common sense next time you claim a company salvaged parts from a farking plane crash on other planes.😊

The two men on the boat actually witnessed the plane overhead and told the NTSB that it wasn’t more than 100 ft over them when it passed over them. That’s one of the reason they were so quick to the scene.
@jackelewish1568
@jackelewish1568 4 ай бұрын
The reason they got there so quickly is because they was already near where the crash was, then seen/heard the crash. Them seeing the plane over head or not has nothing to do with how they was there so quickly. It's not like they chased the plane as it flew. That's impossible even if they tried.

I was done like that hunting on top of a mt. one winter day. It was a twin engine private plane I ran hide behind biggest tree in area it was no more than 75’ above tree tops. Few days looking for emergency FAA reports they landed about 35 miles away they was ice up & just about crashed it was Pilots personal family aboard. I walk fast to my Bronco to use my Bag style cell phone to call it in. It happened that long ago. Family was very lucky to made it in to Local airport was the ones told me how to check for the FAA reports. Flying out Florida going to Pa. Had to been in early 80’s. Couple more feet down they would have crashed right within 100 yards of myself.

I came across your channel and was shocked to see my father! The man in the wheel chair, just for a moment, at about 5:25 minutes in. I’ve never before seen any survivor footage including him. He always talked about the screaming and crying in the dark, and the cold water. He said it happened so fast. Only a moment between realizing something was wrong and impact. He died 44 years later to-the-day of the crash. It’s difficult to think about the significance of the day. I feel he cheated death one day only for it to come back around. I don’t think it was ever too far from his mind.

I worked at Eastern Air Lines as a gate agent & ticketing supervisor for the last 10 years of their existence. A lot of the people I worked with were there when flight 401 crashed. I heard so much praise for those flight attendants who (after the crash) continued to work for the company. While taking crash desk training (basically fielding calls and contacting next-of-kin and arranging their travel to the nearest airport for briefing) I heard story after story about the crash. The L1011s never had another crash on any route for as long as the airline existed. The 401 flight designation was retired (as are all flights on which something terrible happens), and it was used as a training example.

On a Christmas flight from New York to Detroit the exact same situation happened. I had been feeling semi nauseous and apprehensive for two weeks before the flight but had no idea why. After being in the air for 20 minutes a crewman came out of the cockpit, tore off some of the aisle carpet, opened a trap door and went down. He came up whiter than any ghost from 401. He went back into the cabin and the pilot explained exactly what the issue was. We went back to LaGuardia and circled for an hour to use up the fuel. We then prepared to land assuming the wheels were not down. Fire trucks lined the runway. But the wheels did go down and we landed just fine. I’ve never been so shook.

I read an article in Esquire magazine many years ago where a man spoke about his experience with this flight . He was waiting to board when he was overwhelmed with terror . He tried to push the feeling down, got out of line for a moment , then got back in line . He told his wife that he was uneasy about the flight . She told him to stop being ridiculous . He got out of line and tried to calm down , then got back in the line . He told his wife that they needed to leave . She told him she was getting on the plane . So he slugged her and dragged her away . He blamed himself for not being able to warn anyone else .

I do not believe they were at fault at all. The auto disconnect should not have been so easy to dislodge. There should have been a loud voice recording warning them. Secondly it's not their job to be going down holes in mid air. Why the control tower did not ask them to by pass the tower so they check if the wheel carriage was down. If not the runway could have been foamed for an emergency landing.

Just discovered 'The Tape Library' - what a phenomenally well presented programme; superbly narrated and informative; as my son is a commercial pilot, my husband and I empathised fully with the warnings of the souls attempting to communicate with the living. The remains of the crashed plane should have been blessed to allow these souls to pass over into the afterlife. Thank you so much for this presentation of such a dreadful tragedy. Lorraine

You might be thinking of plane crashes into water, as those are truly deadly. However, crashing to the ground is much more survivable, as my 11-year old brother flying unattended to our grandparents in Florida many years ago will tell you. I’m just a statistician who models such data. The majority of passengers survive crashes and there are things you can do to significantly improve your odds of survival. You are more likely to survive a plane crash than not, especially these days. Some numbers based on 2015 - 2020 data from bts.gov: if you were to board any flight during the year, you’d have about a 1 in 260,256 in a plane accident(not necessarily a crash) 1 in 6,864,250 chance of being on a plane involved in an accident that results in at least 1 fatality. about 1 in 816,545,929 of actually dying in a plane accident/crash Those are per year Throw those numbers in google for source since I can’t post a real link :( Hope that helps

It was a shame the L011 Tristar didnt sell as well as the DC-10 as the Tristar was a far safer and more advanced plane than the DC-10. I did some research and the reason the Tristar didnt sell as well was it there were setbacks in the production of the rolls royce engines specifically designed for the jet and cost overruns as well which contributed to other large airlines such as American Airlines and United Airlines not placing any orders for the jet.

@@BritanniaPacific Its true. Lockheed decided to enter the commercial jet manufacturing market again in the late sixties because they werent getting as many contracts with the military so they needed to make up for the lost revenue. Rolls Royce had gone bankrupt during that time and the British Government had to bail them out. And by the time Lockheed considered contracting a different manufacture such as Prat and Whitney, GE, or CFC. Boeing and Douglas had already rolled the DC-10 and 747 out of their factories. Boeing and Douglas did have different engine options for their jets made by Prat and Whitney and CFC.

Land animals would be scared off by the foreign object as well as the fire and smell. Is this different, for swamp predators? I'm curious about it, I'd have assumed crash victims would be safe from wild predators - but living land-locked I've never taken underwater predators' instinct into account.

This type of accident would not happen with today's modern aircraft. #1. When the autopilot is disengaged, either intentionally or accidentally, there is a loud "bi-doop, bi-doop" warning which is impossible to miss. #2. Terrain avoidance system. Now, if an aircraft is losing altitude and is too low (other than on final approach for landing) a warning will sound, along with a voice "Terrain! Pull up! Terrain! Pull up!" #3. ATC system that alerts controllers if an aircraft is too low for the terrain.

The tv-movie was quite good but unfortunately they had omitted Bob Loft entirely. The book is amazing and contains a few incidents that didn't make it into the movie, like a plane with salvaged parts from the crashed plane suddenly starting to slightly tilt repeatedly to the starbord side, in midair. A passenger sitting by a window saw a small glowing ball slowly jumping up and down on the tip of the wing causing the plane to tilt slightly. He called for an air stewardess and they both watched it. It suddenly vanished and then reappeared on the wingtip on the port side of the plane, again causing it to slightly tilt repeatedly before vanishing.

26:14 really, that sounds like a selling point. Our planes are so safe now even the dead are helping to look out for your safety.

When people describe having full conversations with a fully engaged person sitting next to them and the 'person' disappears, it makes you wonder about the afterlife.

I’ve read a lot about this crash and the paranormal sightings but I haven’t heard such a detailed description of the encounter of the airline vice president with the dead captain. Either you are privy to a lot more information or you are gilding the lily. The other accounts merely state that the deceased pilot sat in his chair, looked forward silently and disappeared.

Pilots are now taught as part of their training that, "First, fly the plane." It's just terribly sad that they were so focused on fixing a non-critical problem that they didn't notice they were flying straight into the ground.

My pops worked for TWA during that time and parts were put on TWA planes and shit was weird till they pulled all the parts off the 10-11s in the TWA fleet!

Investigators from the NTSB who investigated the crash of Flight 401 said when interviewed decades later that still usable parts from 401 were indeed installed in other planes making up the Eastern Airline fleet. And they recounted several ghost stories which were reported to them after their investigation, and that all of the 401 parts were removed from other planes at the order of EA execs.

I'm extremely happy to have just found your channel! I was looking up Flight 401 information and watched this great video you put together. This story has fascinated me since I was a kid in the 1970s. So many verified, and documented sightings of these pilots. It's one of the greatest true ghost stories of all time! I'm definitely subscribing right now, and can't wait to watch your other videos! Thank you so much, and I look forward to talking with you in the comments section of other scary stories!!🙂🤝👻👻

Glad I recently subscribed to your channel! I've watched some of your videos so far, and will continue to do so. Fascinating and disturbing topics! This a was tragic accident. I remember a movie with Ernest Borgnine (who became a ghost in the movie...sorry to give it away to anyone who hasn't watched it yet) about the flight 401 crash. Interesting coincidence, I was living in the Miami area in the early 1980's, attending Miami Dade Community College, and got a job teaching math at a private school in Hialeah. Turns out the principal at the school was a former mortician that took care of bodies from that flight. He didn't go into great detail (thankfully) but it sounded bad. I'm trying to remember how that came up, and as best as I can recollect we were casually chatting about movies and I mentioned a movie I had recently watched on tv about the crash, and he told me that he handled bodies from the crash. I found Fiona2254's comment from a few days ago about her aunt very interesting, and thought I would comment.

😢 We had just relocated to Hollywood, Florida in September 1972 from NY. I don't remember this, as I was a young child, but heard about it years later. Very, VERY heart breaking❤😢

Thank you! I mean to be fair, we’ve added about 35,000 subs over the last month or two so from my perspective this is an insane amount! Had been putting out videos for a year with only a couple of thousand people tuning in at best :)
