Here's a continuation of my search for ways into the main Union Mine at Cerro Gordo without using the central shaft and hoist. This time I start with the Omega Mine, using a loader, backhoe, and dynamite to bust in. Then it was onto the Bullion.
A couple weeks back, Johnny and explored the Bullion Mine in what was the most terrifying mine exploration I'd ever done. You can watch that here:

@Dargonhuman
@Dargonhuman 2 жыл бұрын
@@donnachristianson1502 For most of the journey, trains and ships would have carried the timber from where it was felled to the train depots and shipping ports of Los Angeles, but from there they'd likely have had to haul everything up the mountain via horse drawn wagon or similar type of hauling vehicle. There _were_ some steam powered wagons that existed at the time that could have handled that kind of load, but they weren't designed for that kind of rugged terrain and were mainly used to move cargo between ships and warehouses or factories on the docks.

A short fall with a back Landing could end your climbing days. Also depending on what all you do, you could learn a bit of freerunning/parkor. They do have a large part being how to take otherwise hard landings without injury, won't help everywhere, but could help somewhere. No "superhero landings", your knees will thank you.

Hey! Great video! A few more things about climbing: 1. do not put your arm or head in between the rope and whatever you're climnbing. always keep it in between your body going straight up. Because your arm or head will get trapped in between the rope and the wall or ladder or something else and that could easily break your arm or get you trapped. 2. always secure your rope on multiple points. you tie it down a few feet away from the hole or ledge, and then tie it down again where your rope should be to descend. there are special anchors for this purpose. 3. use pads on the points where your rope is tied around something or where it rubs on a ledge to protect your rope from abrading. climbing rope is expensive and any fraying means that your rope should be thrown away because it won't be safe anymore.

I mentioned this earlier in a previous comment and figured that it's worth it to put it out there. I know that exploring abandoned mines is inherently risky, but that makes it all the more important for the team to be cautious and smart about exploring. We've seen that Brent understands this but Johny being risky for the sake of looking "cool" is a great way to get both him and Brent killed. Johny is very mistaken when he mentions that, "As long as it's my life I'm risking I'm ok," not only because he is risking Brents life, but he also is risking all the lives that may have to venture into the mine to save him if he gets stuck or breaks a leg. Brent, you are the responsible one here. What you guys are doing is very brave and I admire you for that. But safety comes before ego.

I was trying to find a comment exactly like this. Very well said 👏 The dangers in the mines are endless. The fact that sometimes when there are risky and “cool” things being done, it poses a threat. Would love to see more precaution when they go down instead of these “cool” stunts :/

One of my local heroes passed away recently. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamish_MacInnes Part of his legacy, are the many innovations in safety and mountain rescue equipment and procedures that he devised. There is always risk when you go into risky places. The trick is to identify, and manage that risk. Wearing a hi vis jacket is not about you looking cool or otherwise, its about helping others to see you. I've done my fair share of dumbassed risky things, and so far, been lucky enough not to die. I've also seen enough examples of what happens when you make a mistake, to know that the only thing that saved me from being the guy on the stretcher or in the body bag was luck. Keep exploring, keep learning, but first and foremost keep safe.

Johnny, the helmet, glasses and vest are industry standard. You look prepared, not like a dork. As someone who typically does all black and has to wear this stuff on site too, I empathize. Doing reckless things doesn't make them not reckless, until you do get hurt or worse.

Have to write this as I can't watch this in good conscience without knowing I said something. The absolutely casual relationship with safety or concern for best practices in these videos is without a doubt a foreshadow of tragedy. I do a lot of dangerous things, and I am constantly trying to win back slack against the odds with thought, planning, and equipment. Watching these I am 100% sure there is an unfortunate incident in the future if things continue the way they are. So certain that you're flirting with disaster I would feel bad watching these without commenting. If you own that mine- you set the rules. Safety isn't negotiable. Because one person is cavalier with their life doesn't absolve you from the impact of the fallout. Think of how you felt when the hotel burnt down... the regret for not thinking about the wiring. Now think of that moment after someone acting cavalier and moving too fast gets buried alive, crushed, hell- just a bad leg break, pressure pneumothorax, or a bleeding wound... no way you're going to get back up in time. Your margins for error are much smaller than you think. That guy being reckless isn't just endangering himself, he's moving quickly and headlong into things that (even if he's the only one who dies) will massively impact you mentally, physically, emotionally, and monetarily. You are missing a ton of warning signs and you may lack the fortitude to be authoritative with those around you. I say all this out of a concern for where this is heading. Edit: Happy to see you being MORE safety cautious. But you need to stay on that, think over the horizon. I like your videos and your enthusiasm. I don't want anything to happen.

I agree. Reckless = stupid. I'm not impressed by Mr. Reckless. Some gets killed, Brent gets sued and loses the mine. Locals that have helped him abandon the project. From about 19 minutes in on this video I was seeing what looks like blue rocks. There is a story about the Comstock lode. Early on when it was mostly a gold mine the miners were having trouble getting to the gold because of all the "blue stuff" that was in the way. It turned out that the blue stuff was a high grade silver ore--is that what I see in the Union tunnel?

The fact that miners got headaches from NG is what started the medical community to investigate it. It turns out NG dilates the arteries in the body (hence the pounding headache). However, dilating arteries that are closing from a clot or plaque is a good thing for heart patients. As a paramedic, I've given NG to lots of folks with chest pain. I always joke with them and tell them not to sneeze or the NG will explode! :)

YOU. ARE. DAMN. LUCKY. (SAFETY, & RISK MANAGEMENT.) My 1st career I was an Officer in the “United States Merchant Marines.” Graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, class of 78. I served 25 years, with MSC=Military Sealift Command. Retired as a relief Captain. I’ve been in 58 different countries and every ocean. Then After not working for two years I got bored, And then I went to work here in Montana in the Oil&Gas Industry, in upper management in the safety department for a “Sizable Family Owned” “Oilfield Construction Company.” 372 full time field employees. As the HSE Manager. With offices here in Montana, and both Dakotas, Wyoming & “Northern Utah.” The acronym, HSE, stands for Health, Safety, Environmental. In all the years I worked, I never even got a hangnail, so to speak. And in all the years I was a Safety Manager, Risk Management, nobody got hurt unless, Unless it was their fault, and their fault only. The number one reason for accidents? Carelessness, and risk-taking. It’s as-simple as that. Starting at 33:26 you are telling your friend that he needs to wear his yellow safety vest. And that is good. Right off the bat he starts bitching and making fun of wearing it. Which is stupid. Flat out stupid. You and I both know that nothing is darker than being down inside a mine. That is actually the only real safety thing I’ve seen you do in all 14 videos, that I’ve watched so far. Neither one of you, are safe whatsoever. You take way too many chances. To much risk. Furthermore you are consistently putting yourself in risky situations. A big one is going down inside of a mine by yourself. And even when you do go down inside a mine with a friend, you have on several occasions so far let them go topside even though you stay down below. And then to top it off you go walking around in places you’ve never been right by yourself, and then!! And then you don’t even mark your path to find your way back!! and you consistently wear a pack on your back while trying to squeeze your way through snug, and or tight holes! Tight and or snug, areas!! it is so easy to get hung up in one of these places with the pack on your back. And then you can’t go forward and you can’t go back. Over the years many men have been found dead. Flat on there stomach and just there skeleton. Mouth wide open. From either fear knowing they would die, DIE IN THAT POSITION, Or from screaming so much. Either way that is a tremendous size no-no. You always and I mean always put your pack in front of you. Pushing it along or, leave it at an entrance. Or a staging area and carry bare “bare Necessities”. like water. And depending upon what light you are using, extra batteries. Once again depending upon what light you are using. I could easily type up a short list of all the rest you’re taking and what you need to do to correct your risk taking. A tremendous part of safety and it doesn’t matter if it’s in the oil field, residential home construction, commercial construction, or shipyard employment, or exploring a mine, But a tremendous part of safety is, “Risk-Management.” I am without a doubt, extremely worried about you. Once again never lose sight of what I’ve done for a living. “Safety and, Risk Management.” I would really love to see you live to be an old man and see you live long enough to explore for many years to come and have your KZbin channel as long as you like. But, with the way you’re going and all the risk you are taking, and I say this with a full heart what I say next. And from the safety & risk management formulas we use, If you’re alive 5 years from now? YOU. WILL. BE. DAMN. LUCKY.
