Thank you Bret for the inspiration you gave us since you started with you videos 15 months ago, we(my wife, younger son and I) started a project in the mountains of Baja California, The rebuilding of a ranch, the Coyote Blues Ranch, transformed and old bar and corral into a western type cantina, and old adobe shed into a work shop, a stone abandoned shack into a nice guest room, instaled a Windseeker and solar paneles, painted and laid concrete as needed, run water pipes and eléctrical wiring, clean and clean lots of wild brush.. we encountered heavy rains, snow, great, wind, wild fires and plácid nigths... Made over 100 trips from desert land to mountain levels and still going, much of your philosophy is taken as an input to keep going on our project as well... Possibly; but the biggest obstacle still remains - where to get potable water? Go back and take a look at the several-mile-long pipeline that used to bring water to the town, for a brief time over 100 years ago (you can roughly trace its path along the mountain ridge). Could that ever be done again, assuming that there was water available at a nearby spring? The pool of water several hundred feet down inside the mine (as seen on several previous videos) is not a viable water source from what I can tell, even if they were able to put in multiple pumps to elevate it up out of there at more than a trickle that comes out at the hoist house now.
@WeylandLabs3 жыл бұрын
@@redmondjp The one thing I do believe in is the power of community ! In 5 years from now he should be anywhere from 7 to 10 million subscribers. With that comes more funding, more channels helping him more people donating more people wanted to see success. I believe in people, I work at Tesla so finding ways is what we do. There is always a way - that town isn't the planet Mars. The water problem is simple thinking you have to run pipe up and around mountains is two centuries ago thinking. The mountain has a spring in the mine and new equipment, cleaning up to be run and be effective is not hard. He just had people that couldn't think outside the box. I bet if there lives where on the line they could make it work. In this case they just wanted to get paid. People that say it cant be done, should not interrupt those who are doing it. Anything is possible humans can do anything we want if we work together.
@redmondjp3 жыл бұрын
@@WeylandLabs I admire your optimism there Weyland, but you need to understand what the limitations of reality are. A dank pool of water 800 feet deep in a mine is not necessarily a spring, nor potable. How many gallons per hour can it supply, and for how long (and what is the arsenic level as well as heavy metals)? How many decades did it take for that water to accumulate there? Did you read the history of Cerro Gordo? How many gallons per day did they require, all either supplied by the short-lived pipe from the spring, or hauled up there by horses and later by truck? By power of the community, do you mean hundreds of people walking up Cerro Gordo road every day, each with a 100 pound canvas water bag on their back? You can have positive thoughts and all the optimism in the world, but you can't change geology nor the laws of physics (not to mention the governmental and environmental regulations that didn't apply when all of that was originally built). And requiring each hotel guest to show up with 250 gallons of water each probably won't fly either. There is a darn good reason why many areas in the Western US don't have any people living in them. Lack of water is one of the big ones. I'm probably a bit older than you and have watched endeavors like this end up failing. Believe me, I want it to succeed as much as anybody does, I really do! In the end, it all comes down to economics. Take all of the super-cool stuff that Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen was doing, such as the living computer museum (my friend worked there to get vintage computers fully operational - a dream job for an electrical/computer engineer). Well, Paul Allen died and his sister (now largely in control of his estate) didn't share that vision, so the museum closed. There are a lot of really cool things that can be done, that don't economically pencil out. If you have a rich benefactor who funds them like Paul Allen, great. But that doesn't last forever either. My now-wife lived and worked at a historic bed and breakfast (built in 1909) for many years and I moonlighted there when they needed help. Despite it being apparently very successful, it didn't pencil out and is now operated as a for-profit adult care home (so it is no longer open to the public, sadly). I really am rooting for Brent's success, despite what you might think after reading this; I am a big history buff and love to see historic sites get preserved and enjoyed by the public. Oh - all of the historic B&Bs that my wife and I stayed at in Hawaii on our honeymoon have now reverted back to private residences, as we discovered on successive visits. Economic reality; it bites! Happy thoughts and technology can't solve all of the world's problems like so many people today have been erroneously led to believe. If Brent and his partner can't generate the necessary cash flow in order to make this hotel project a go, how long will it remain open? How do you pay the electricity bill in the 7-8 months of the year that you aren't turning a profit? How do you keep your staff in the off-season? But the big question still remains: from where cometh the water? Everybody want to take a shower. Have a nice day, and may your optimism be tempered by reality. Oh, for my day job I support remote radar sites that sit at similar elevations all over the Western US. Some of them have 10,000 gallon water tanks on site. Hmmm . . .
@WeylandLabs3 жыл бұрын
@@redmondjp There is a lot to unravel here, let me start by correcting my verbiage of spring vs well. I apologize when I am in a hurry the way I tend to think gets distorted a bit. I agree it will take a lot of time and effort to see that place come together. Not just from him but from others and the community he has started and that we both are apart of. There are a lot of questions that needs to be answered for that well to be relevant there. Understandably speaking if we are talking about 100% off the grid then he still has a lot of options he needs to assess. Access to water - electricity - internet - waste, pretty much a closed loop infustructure that should last forever I'm my opinion. The road ahead is long for him, but its just not his dream its over 1 million of his subscribers dreams who I believe in including you. And I mean power of community of donating and helping raise the funds to get the talent and the inspired people that wants this to succeed. 1+ mil people if 10% donated and few bucks that can buy a lot of talented people to help the water problem. Because running a pipeline up to the mountain could cost 20+ million and that's a lot of donations. So that well has to be the source somehow, and if not so - looking to see if there can be a paved road then we can always build a huge water tower. The thing is sir, times are changing I believe in the good of humanity and the best times are yet to come. I am an optimist I do have doubts about things, but our doubts didn't get us to were we are in time. Different thinking and a different way of doing things brought us here. Humans evolved 300k years ago, and 6k to 20k years ago civilizations started popping up. And just 142 years ago electricity was invented, our progress in less than 150 years - 2 life times, have been more than 4918 lifetimes accumulated from 300k. Humanities progress is godly today, in just under 200 years we are finally starting the transitioning away from fossil fuels. Now I get the whole Paul Allen thing but lets be honest some people are in the right place at the right time when luck meets opportunity. And preserving what matters most in our life needs to be assessed all the time. For me that's making an impact on our planet and going what I can to inspire other to be the best versions of them. We are not talking about forever but when some speaks your name for the last time that's when I die. We have lost focus of what actually matters in life. And that's our future not only our children but others children also and there children. How can we leave a world to the people we love in such bad shape ? I think you have seen a lot, I think you probably even been through more. There's no doubt life has its up's and downs, but it makes us who we are. We can be angry at the world or see all the joy life gives us. We just lived through COVID 2020 I'm pretty happy I'm alive today. My last statement : Technology can and will save us from us, our human savagery nature is slowly going away. Our thoughts, emotions, sadness happiness is all a pattern of code now. This is hard to explain but quantum A.I has been around while. And you can see human behavior vary where it goes with what it controls. But our savagery is hard wired into us based on genetics from being a hunter gatherers 300k years ago. We are just a species on one planet of trillions of planets in solar systems nothing makes us special yet. We haven't earned the right to be more yet. We still kill each other based on skin tone, beliefs, greed, power and just pure ignorance. We dont deserve nothing ! Not yet ...no that's what our children have to figure out and there's etc etc until we become better. Until we unite as one and work together to truly be free in a universe of unlimited possibilities.
