I visited Cerro Gordo in 2004 with a friend. It was an experience I will never forget. This channel was so exciting for me to discover. I screamed “Noooooo!!!” When I heard about the hotel in episode 4. That was devastating. I remember the previous caretaker told me that the wood burning stove in the hotel stayed hot for something like 80 years since it was always cooking night and day. Ghost stories of a woman walking around, hearing stage coaches and mule trains at night coming up the hill but never arriving. I can’t wait to come back now!

Look into rainwater harvesting. There's a guy in southern AZ who harvests all his water from the yearly monsoons; he has 20,000 gallons in water holding tanks and one season's rainfall keeps him all year. If you place 3 or 4 tanks higher than the buildings you can gravity feed your water to the houses without electricity.
@Twilyhtmist
@Twilyhtmist 4 жыл бұрын
Ooohh, actually, if he jimmy-rigs it JUST right, he can use the "gravity feed" aspect to turn, in the course of the water's flow, an (enclosed) water wheel which will then be used to generate electricity! COOL!!!

Little used, but necessary if you ever get yourself in a situation when needed. I really felt the bit about sitting alone with yourself. You are spot on. In today's world it is so easy to run away from your inner problems by keeping busy. When my daughter was born about a year and a half ago, sometimes she would not sleep unless she was being held. I found it so difficult to simply sit down with her and do nothing. I was so used to going 100 MPH all the time and doing a million things at once. Sometimes I would need to do this an hour and a half. When I allowed myself to sit, a lot of stuff came up and I found out why I was "running." I can imagine being alone in a place like Cerro Gordo could be incredibly healing. You seem like a great person and I am enjoying watching your videos!

When I was in my 20's my best friend and I explored mines in most of Southern California and Nevada. I had a Jeep CJ7 and a tent trailer that would go anywhere, later on we both bought Quad-runners so we could get into even more remote areas. My friends father owned a small cabin across the valley just north of the town Lone Pine up on Mount Whitney. Spent a lot of time all around that area. I now live in Oregon, and when I retire I think I will explore the Oregon desert.

Hey you’d should look at those firefighting skids that are drop in and fit in the back of a rzr. Would help if lighting stuck somewhere near and you could put it out before it got to big. A used fire truck wouldn’t be a bad idea but it’s pretty costly to fuel and maintain one of those
@lucasgardner6189

A brush truck might be a better option. Most of them have a 500 gallon skid on the back and should be relatively easy to maneuver where it needs to go

Lucas Gardner very true, but hauling gas up the road for one of those beasts could be a big pain. Less of a pain than rebuilding a town however
@TBMCxSNIPES

Brush truck would be better. Engines are more difficult to operate as you need to understand how to pump it. In addition you would need someone on the line as you pump or it could become very dangerous.

I really like the story about how you restored the water and all the details included. I’m a nuts & bolts kind of person so I really appreciate the way you broke down the steps to getting water up from 700 feet down a mine shaft that hasn’t ran down in 15 years! Now that’s a ballsy move. And what’s so cool about this story is I already know how things turned out with the rebuilding going on as of this writing, 6.28.22

Have you thought on marketing for mountain bikers? That place seems to be a heaven for trails. The big magazines tipycally rent out resorts to test bikes every year. Albeit your project might need to be more advanced but... It's an idea.

Too much sand for the most part, and a lot of legal lability, if he imported some dirt it would work but hiking trails would be much much much easier. Its not impossible but building MTB trails would require a lot of work, he'd have a much easier time renting out quads and the such.
