Starting at 5:59 shows you how things really go from Situation Normal to All Fucked Up in a really short span of time. The vehicle takes a hit which immediately knocks out the motors on the turret, forcing the gunner to start cranking it manually. This slows down the turret traverse speed and makes it harder to get on target. Not even 14 seconds later at 6:13 the vehicle takes another hit which KILLS the Loader. The commander is then heard shouting RELAYED twice after this while the gunner is unable to fire since the loader isn't loading the next round. In the mean time, it seems like four or five other rounds hit near/on the vehicle causing further damage. During this whole moment, it seems as if the crew are unaware that the Loader is KIA, focused entirely on the MBT in front of them. In line with this thought, it takes the player until 6:41 (28 seconds later) to call up a UI element which assesses the damage to the vehicle, which INITIALLY reports that the Loader is dead, the engine and both tracks are destroyed, meaning the vehicle is effectively immobile. Immediately after opening this menu though, the OPFOR tank fires another round which impacts the vehicle and wounds the Commander. This explains the sudden change in voices in the intercom as the crew has quickly swap roles to finish the engagement. In less than a minute, 50 seconds in total if we're being generous, the whole situation goes from rather calm middle distance engagement to sudden disablement of the vehicle and casualty, which cascades into further problems, vis a vis the Loader's incapacitation leading to the vehicle being unable to retaliate which lead to the Commander being knocked out as well. These videos are great because they showcase a pretty unadulterated looks at the complexity which goes into manning an MBT or other armoured vehicle that people would otherwise be completely unaware of. It's easy to think of tanks as a singular entity, bringing a gun to bear on a target by its own will alone, without realizing the coordination and training needed for a crew to operate such a vehicle. Kudos to you for providing this and kudos to the devs for being able to bring this experience to us.

I think it's actually RELAZE instead of RELAYED, which is to say to relaze the target with the tank's laser rangefinder to fix the targeting solution, since the M1IPs auto-lead feature relies on having a good rangefinder solution (obviously this doesn't matter at that range)

Jesus fucking christ the sheer panic. The voices sound so young as well. This is all spot on. I've never been in a tank or anything but I have fiends of mine who were. It's not just tank crews, but in general the shear amount of fear even as an infantryman on the ground or a pilot in the sky. The fear. So much fear. You know from their tones, the cracking the voices breaking, you know that if they don't kill them first, they die. It's all about survival. The voices here really REALLY Make you care for you crew. I get uncomfortable and fidgeting just listening. I feel like if I was playing, I'd be forcing my efforts to aim, sight and get shots faster and faster simply because I know these panicked voices in this tin can with me are counting on me performing my role and if I don't, they die along with me. This is fucking amazing. I've listened to a lot of Military combat audio over the years it's bone chilling how similar this sounds to the real live audio I've heard. Well done.

I like how “doubtful” isn’t an assured non-kill. Sometimes your commander will say “doubtful” and the target will cook off, then they’ll say “target cease fire”. I really like that. But then other times you’ll hit a target, the commander will tell you to cease fire, but I’m not too sure it’s the right choice.

The loader being muffled makes sense to me, it keeps him on a distinct "channel" in my mind separate from all the other screaming. Everyone else should be on much clearer intercom though, I can't understand some of what they're saying and I'm no stranger to milsims..

Okay so, what I'm mostly confused about: Are you playing as JUST the gunner? As in, only aiming the turret and gun and firing said gun. As well as doing what the commander is commanding you to Or Are you also controlling the vehicles movement? As if you were acting as the driver AND gunner? The two control roles of a tank, put under the control of one M&K?

The "Doubtful" isn't the lack of pen, more just the commander can't verify an effective kill. Rather than assume a good hit and mission-kill, better to take no chances and re-engage until you can be sure that the enemy vehicle is out of commission.

The 105mm seems to be of dubious value in this game. How does the T/C call "doubtful" after watching an impact on a BRDM-2? Maximum armor thickness on that thing can't be more than 25mm at any point.

I think it's more that unless there is an obvious effect, you can't verify it's dead. The armor is so thin compared to the round that it's possible to go in and out, right through, without getting a 'kill.' and unless you see the crew bail out or the vehicle catch fire, your can't confirm it's dead.

There's an old WW2 saying for Tanks "Shoot it until it burns" Essentially even engaging something like a BDRM with the correct ammunition it's not a promised complete kill. Some people might not be dead so you shoot it again just to make sure because it's better to make sure then be taken unaware because the vehicle you shot still had someone alive.

Im curious about what the commander is actually seeing. Is it through a camera too or a viewport? And does the commander's camera shows a reticle for the gun too? Like it moves in real time independently depending on where the gunner is aiming? I mean... I seems logic, how else would the commander know where the gun is aiming to?

Depends on the vehicle. In the M1 there's literally an extra optic that leads to the gun, reticle and all, that looks exactly where the gun is looking.

"Up" to tell the gunner that the gun is loaded and ready to fire. "On the way" is when the gunner is warning the crew of the coming blast and for the loader to get out of the path of the recoiling gun
