GHS Pressurewounds are without a doubt the best strings I've ever had on my 35" scale 6-string bass. I took me 40+ years of playing bass before I tried a set, but I'm very, very glad I did. GHS: These strings are perfect. Please don't change a thing!

May I say that this guy is a beast? Holy crap that fretless song was awesome. Especially on the bluesy cadenza there at the end, you can really hear some great punch and "attitude" from the strings. I'm getting a fretless bass and I wanted a roundwound sound without messing my fingerboard up. These were recommended on TalkBass and being a strictly GHS man already, I will most definitely give them a shot, doubly so now because of this video. LOVE that sound; great job GHS, yet again!

I got a Sterling by Music Man 5-string Classic StingRay (25CA) which was converted to fretless. I loaded a 5-string pressure-wound set on it. For a fretless, it sounds amazing. I still get a fair amount of growling tones without making deep scratches to the fingerboard. The fretless bass community need to give these strings some recognition, totally worth it.

Dave, you're really selling me on these strings! I'm a diehard round-wounder (Rotos and Boomers), but the lessened string chatter and finger noise while leaving a healthy dose of bite and growl with these strings sure sounds sweet! Thanks for the fun demo videos - great marketing concept!

@cottonfever1221 Almost forgot,they feel so close to a flatwound which are easy on the hands as well as the frets themselves but give the sound of a worn in(not worn out)set of rounds,I cant say enuff good things about them. As a bass tech I recommend them to players who for one reason dont like the way their neck plays on their bass,and 9 out of 10 times their tension and gauge help to get their bass to play 100% better,on a finicky neck these strings work wonders getting better playability.

Pressure wounds are my favourite bass strings, hands down, but I can't seem to find them in 5 strings sets. Does anyone know where I can find a set for my 5? Or even just a single low b, as I have 4 string sets.
@johnv158710 жыл бұрын
These have been my absolute favorite, but since learning I have a pretty severe allergy to nickel, sadly I have had to give them up. I switched to Rotosound 55 solo bass, but they just aren't the same, too steel sounding and bite my fingers making it hard to slide. Does anyone know if the coated boomers come close to the sound of the pressure wounds?

@ejdbk You may want to try they Coated Bass Boomers, they are the classic Boomer string, but a little mellower due to the coating. Likewise the Pressurewound Flats are only slightly flattened and the brightest we offer in terms of a smooth flat wound sound.

How would you compare the Pressurewounds to the GHS 3060 Nylon Tapewounds?
@jonathanosborn48006 ай бұрын
Half-round is supposed to be reffering to the ground-wound, that start round and get one side ground off. Both are nice in their own way, pressure are more like a round with some of the high edge taken off, the groundwound have a bit of the flat sound combined with a bit of the round
@TheGHSStrings11 жыл бұрын
Actually we offer a ground roundwond set called Brite Flats, The Pressurewound sets are actually slightly flattened in the winding process. Instead of grinding, the pressure from the process actually results in a slightly flattened string!
@tvpsarchive29585 жыл бұрын
Will you guys post a video of your brite flats? I'm really interested in that. Hope to see you guys bring Dave to demo the brite flats since he was so enthusiastic about them, he's probably the best guy to do it. Been considering buying your brite flats and a video on them would sure help make a decision.

Hi. What was the 1st year that Pressurewounds were made ?! Thanks
@TheGHSStrings14 жыл бұрын
@ltdbassplayer The pressurewound are a stainless steel string, while the Tapewounds are Nylon. Overall the pressurewound will be brighter and give you more pop. The tapewound will be smoother sounding and emulate a more "upright" bass sound.
@TheGHSStrings11 жыл бұрын
You can try the Boomers in the "Long Scale Plus" length, which should work up to a 36" scale. You can always build your own Custom Set with those or the "extra long scale" option for the lower strings to ensure that they all fit.
@roadtonever13 жыл бұрын
@tylerwylie I second this request. I've experimented with putting together my own balanced sets from singles and I felt it made me relax my technique and be more confident playing wide interval runs as opposed to sticking to proven grooves.

Thank you for these videos! When I bought my first bass (used) it came equipped with a set of Presicion flatwounds strings (I remember the purple silk at their ends) and I didn't care for them, being more attracted to punk-rock. Now, after 10 years, I finally got a new set of flatwounds and they are great. Absolutely lovely! I would have tried Pressurewounds, but I can't find them in the countries where I live (Isreal and Romania) Too bad! Any suggestions?

Can anyone tell me what the song is that Dave plays on the fretless?
@TheGHSStrings14 жыл бұрын
@spynae The Pressurewound series should work great on most basses and bridges. The only problem I have run into is with the low B winding on a few string through bodies. Some basses have a little more length than others. However, the 4 string Carvin B40 should work well with these strings
@gregaaron896 жыл бұрын
Great demo, but I’d like to know what these sound like played with a pick!
@cottonfever122113 жыл бұрын
These are the BEST strings to play on a Fender,WHY ? Because the tension of them work well on the thinner necked Jazz bass and they add a nice line drawn down the middle sound between flats and rounds. On a p-bass they give you the well known flatwound sound but can give you some of the crunchy brite-ness of a roundwound without the higher overtones of the roundwound strings. Most of all they are the perfect tension to get a Fender bass to set-up well,AWESOME STRINGS !

@nerkoids10 жыл бұрын
Just put these on my violin bass... made it come alive. Especially when muted with some foam, it has a nice clickiness and punch, it almost make the violin bass sound P-bass-esque, dare I say. Also, they're louder than the Rotosounds Monel 77s I had on there. And they sound really deep. I was lucky enough to get a medium-scale set with the retro-looking packaging. You guys should stick with that instead of the packaging look seen in this video.

@MyPat9999 The Alloy 52 is a harder material than Nickel Plated or Pure Nickel strings, however not as hard as a pure stainless steel string. Overall the harder the material the faster a fret will wear.

GHS Strings maybe you've read about my dismay with d'addario flatwound bass strings. The guys at d'addario were kind enough to send me 1 replacement set of strings. I use multiple bass guitars for my gigs and recordingsessions. On my vintage Hofner 500/1 I used to put GHS flatwounds. And on my other Hofners I put D'addarios. Now I feel lost. Problem with D'addario strings is partly solved (they sent 1 new set) but my problem with GHS is that my A string snapped on me twice! On my vintage 1962 Hofner 500/1 the GHS strings just sound beautiful. I always use flatwound strings and have never had problems with strings breaking before....help!

Flats don't need a coating since they last forever. They don't wear like roundwound strings. that's why you never see them with a coating. I am not sure what you are thinking about why you would want a coating in the first place?

Maybe because flats sound and feel like they're 'dead' to begin with. In comparison to rounds, that is.

GHS Strings Yeah, maybe the tone will get mellower..what about coating nickel pressure wounds? Nickel should give a brighter tone, shoudln't it?

No; nickel is a mellower material than the nickel-iron alloy that is used in the Pressurewounds.
