As a Jamaican raised Washington DC. I visited Ghana 7 times, my first visit Ghana was 2016. The first time I went to Cape Coast and Elmina Dangeon and the slave river, I cried like a baby. 2 years later i purchased 4 acres of land Aburi mountains started building my 28 apartment for rent, why? Because I want to spend the rest my life with future family in Ghana so I married a beautiful Ghanaian lady in 2020. We have 2 kids. I can't be there 3rd week of November this year. Long live MAMA AFRICA and all black people around the world 🌍

Ghanaians are honest, hard working, caring, very motivated and peace loving people. In Nigeria, our organist at church was a Ghanaian, my Surgery professor was a Ghanaian, I have worked with male and female Ghanaian nurses, my colleague at the post graduate school of Public Health in the USA was a Ghanaian. I have always felt that strong bond whenever I met a Ghanaian. I cannot say enough good things about Ghanaians even though they prefer Ghanaian jollof to Nigeria jollof. I pray they continue to have good governance.

A Nigerian, I look at Ghana and think Ghanaians don’t know how lucky they’ve been for decades. They’ve had some of their best and well educated as leaders, from Oxford educated Bussia to Mills to Mahama to Kuffour to Addo. You should see Airport Residential, East Legon and Lebune. Good places for African Americans to retire.

Engaging with African people in the U.S, hasn’t been a pleasant experience for me. So it allowed me to be even more bitter towards them. It was when you all went to the slave trade areas. Watching this video brought tears to my eyes. As an African, my first encounters with AA in the US was stunning. It was that of anger, resentment and snob directed at me. On my first stop at JFK, feeling a bond, I approached an AA woman in a store to help me change a $20 bill into coins so I could make a phone call in those days of coin phones and telephone booths. I thought she did not hear me because of my accent, as politely as I could (at least, I thought I was) I repeated my self to her. To my surprise, her response wiped away all my excitement of speaking to a sister. She bluntly told me that she heard me initially but did not want to speak to me. I was taken aback and went across to the next store, where I met a white male who not only gave me the coins but went out of his way to place the call for me to my host. My second rude awakening was when it was time to have a hair cut. To myself, I thought who else will be better experienced cutting my hair than a brother. I was directed to a salon . That day was a public holiday, of course which I was not aware of and his shop was closed. Next day was my first day at work. There were other barber shops opened but I waited till next day to patronize my bro. Next day, when I came back the shop was open. I eagerly narrated to him my experience the previous day, expecting a pat on the back for coming back. He told me straight up, that only Africans work on American public holidays. Wao! The way he nudged, shoved and tilted my head. At one stage, I thought he gave me a knock on the head. I was so scared throughout the session that I hoped that he did not clip off a piece of my ear. Needless to say, that was the only time I went to his shop and did not care whoever, it was that cut my hair. With those two experiences few months apart in the US, then I wondered to myself if only AAs know how much Africans in Africa love and adore them. So seeing these lovely sisters and brothers making the journey to Africa, got me very emotional. It brought tears of joy and took me back to the hurt I felt on my arrival to the US, to see the anger and resentment from the effects of slavery. We may not have the infrastructure in Africa but we still have humanity. Thank you for making the trip to Africa and sharing. Africa will always be home.

I am so so so sorry you had these unfortunate experiences. I hope this video shows you that not all people are the same. I consider myself a kind person but I have a special place in my heart for Africans. Please accept my apology as an olive branch and I sincerely hope you have better encounters

O that Mama at the salon, "I came here looking one way and I am going to leave looking another way" put a smile on my face....🙂🤩🤩. It gladens my heart to see people taking the bold step to go see their roots to experience the continent, the people the food and the culture. As a Ghanaian living mostly in Europe I miss home most of the time especially because I know what is there back home. I can't even begin to imagine how somebody in their lifetime is not able to go to their roots maybe because they simply cannot or there is the fear factor. Anytime I watch one of these videos of successful trips to Ghana and good experiences, It makes me so so happy. Kudos Dentaa and kudos to anyone who helps them settle in fine when they visit. You all are a blessing. And to you all lovely people that have come once please visit again!!!!! And to all thinking about making the trip, Please do, the doors are wide open...we are ready to welcome you 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
