Learn about Ghana's Ancient Abetifi Kwahu PEOPLE - The ANCESTORS you never knew!
Abetifi Stone Age Park is a Heritage Site and the first place in West Africa where the stone age was discovered. The site has recently been Launched after a long restoration project, and it's full of exciting new attractions! The launch was graced by His Excellency NANA ADDO Dankwah..
Other Dignitaries Present were the Deputy Minister for Tourism (Hon Mark Okraku Mantey).. CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority (Mr. Akwasi Agyeman).. Minister for Agriculture (Brian Acheampong) and The KINGS and QUEENS of the land..
The Abetifi Stone Age park has sort to restore and relive the lifestyle and activities of the inhabitants of the cave 12500 years ago. The first phase of the site has the statues in the cave, the pub/restaurant, a spacious green park, a biogas toilet facility, and a man-made waterfall that has been generated with water from kitchen waste. The second phase of the site will be a museum where all excavated artifacts from the cave will be displayed and also The Stone Age village where tourists will have a chance to lodge and experience the lifestyle of the time
The Park also has recreational facilities constituting a Pub, Restaurant, and Garden as well as the Proposed Multipurpose Center and the Final stage of the Project; The Stone Age Village.
A unique Lodge targeted at Tourists who would like to go back in time to experience the stone age lifestyle. The Site is a general-purpose one, and it’s therefore attractive to the general public. However, we believe it will be more purposeful to students of all levels, lovers of history and sociology, and general tourists and revelers who will find the place welcoming and soothing. So far, there is no such place in the world with the uniqueness of Abetifi Stone Age Park.
The Abetifi Stone Age Park is both man-made and a heritage site with a very fascinating history. The Bosompra cave which is the heritage discovery and main attraction of the site has been proven by archaeological excavation as one of the early habitats of human existence in Ghana for as long as 12,500 years ago. There has been documented evidence to that effect.
So the Stone Age company has sort to restore and relive the cave where these first inhabitants lived and the activities they were engaged in.
It took 22 trucks to move the garbage, which had been carelessly thrown into nature for centuries, to a legal refuse dump. Many helpers from the village were active in transforming the area into a flowering park where revelers and children can play today. For young people, it was an important first step toward environmental awareness.
In the park, there is also a rock cave where archaeological excavations have taken place. The scientific investigations of the University of Legon/Ghana ( Bosompra revisited) revealed that 12,500 years ago, Stone Age people settled there. That brought me as an artist (wood sculptor) with the idea to produce sculptures from cement. 17 figures have been created
Mr Ben Addo the owner worked as a construction manager for Fason. He lives in Abetifi-Kwahu, Ghana, and he was confronted with the problems and needs of his people. He, therefore, decided to face these challenges and created better conditions for the children and young people in his village. At the height of his career, as an art Tutor in one of Germany’s prestigious institutions, he took a bold decision to resign from teaching, a decision which was borne out of a daunting desire to return home to contribute to the welfare of the local community. He relocated to Ghana in 2011 and settled in Kwahu Abetifi, his hometown.
He set up a workshop in artwork to train some of the youth and one of his successful projects, prior to the development of the Stone Age Park, was a Biogas Toilet. In collaboration with a Swiss NGO, he embarked on a solo crusade of building ultramodern toilet facilities for the various communities in the Kwahu region. This initiative has been well received by the traditional leaders, District Assemblies, and the local people. He also engaged in a private hosting of tourists, mainly friends from Germany, Switzerland, and other parts of the world.
In order to facilitate his vision for the community, he donated his family’s plots of land to the community, and with the help of the relevant authorities, created a park that has become a popular meeting place, especially for the village youth.
