Tony and Abedi were inspiring footballers of our time. Tony became a household name in Frankfurt at a time racism was high and earned the name Yegola. He earned respect for black footballers. Abedi played well with Marseille and was an inspirational captain for blackstars who also scored a lot of goals. He was like the Messi in blackstars in those times. These two deserves the first two spots. Asamoah Gyan if had scored the penalty, he would have taken us into the semifinals and being the only African team to do so but didn't. Besides it was during his time in the 2014 world cup when a player had to physically fight an official, players left the team when the tournament was in progress and money had to be flown for the team embarrassing Ghana in the world news media. He deserves to be at no. 7

joseph, since when did scoring goals became a criteria for being the best? what did his goals win for ghana, when it mattered most, he broke our hearts, he certainly deserve to be in the list but not even in the top 5. zidane didn't score many goals but won the world best player 3 times. even canavaro won it as well. gyan has been great for ghana but certainly not the best. polo, abdul razak, abedi pele, ibrahim sunday, rev osei kofi, kofi wusu etc were better.

Gyan is NO WAY the 2nd best player for Ghana. His club career was butt average! 6 Goals in the 3 WCs? Rivaldo got 6, Ronaldo got 8, Kane got 5, Suker got 6 all in one tournament!!! And these guys all have or had top club careers too! So compared to Gyan these guys must be Gods lol. I like Gyan, was good player for Ghana and I appriciate all the goals he scored for the Black Stars but I can't support ANY player in this type of arguement with an poor club career like Gyans..... Abedi Pele and Stephen Appiah were both charismatic Captains. The rest weren’t and Abedi Pele by far is the BEST. He was a play maker, with a Messi-like magic, he was capable of changing games AT ONCE and with ease.He played football from his heart not from the pocket, so to speak.

So the fact that asamoah gyan missed a penalty means he shouldn't be part of the list.. Messi missed a penalty in the final in the copa american but still the Argentines rate him more than maradona, Ronaldo miss crucial penalties but its still rated in Portugal, zidane cost his team the world cup but its still rated by his country.. I saw both players play in their prime, and to me Abedi Pele ranks in top 3 best football players Africa has produced this far. He could win matches with his amazing skill. He could make the first teams of every top national team in the world of his day. He helped guide Olympic Marseille to their first Eufa Champions League trophy together with the likes of John Pierre Papin and Chris Waddle, against a seemingly invincible AC Milan. Franco Baresi, the best center back in the world at the time had nightmares that day because of Abedi Pele. To me, he is simply the best Ghana has produced in recent memory, and my memory goes back to the great Ghanaian team of 1978 which beat our Uganda Cranes 2-0 in the final. That team had Abdul Razak and Opoku Nti. I don’t know those before. Abedi Pele is no 1. From an admirer in Uganda.

I don't like the list of players and the positioning. The stadium in Kumasi, was named after Baba Yara, because during his playing days no one could be compared to him. His talent was legendary. After Real Madrid won the European cup for the fifth time in a row in 1960, they played against Baba Yara' s Ashanti kotoko and could only manage a 3-3 draw. Even with Puskas and Di Stefano, Baba Yara was the man of the match. Maybe you people never heard of both Puskas and Di Stefano. Well, before the great PELE came on the soccer scene, those were the masters of the game. Therefore, How could a list of big time Ghanaian footballers be made without Baba Yara's name. Next time, Please investigate well.

The problem with compiling an all time list like this is comparing different generations. For me personally,, despite their goal scoring antics Asamoah Gyan and Tony Yeboah would be much lower in the list. Robert Mensah would be in there along with Mfum, Osei Kofi, Baba Yara and Opoku Afriye. Plus there are many players who didn't get the recognition they deserved during their playing days, like Adolf Armah
