That's not the Trent reznor I once looked upto. I'm happy for him that he has found love and has a family. I'm extremely happy that he found a way to escape drugs and become clean. But In my opinion the "god" the man, that connected to me and so many other people. He just isn't that person anymore. People do change as they go through life and go through different experiences n get older it's a part of life ain't it.. I never thought he would forget who he was it seems as tho it is a distant memory to him the fucked up confused person that we could all relate to

Been a NIN fan since pretty hate machine was put out. Trent Reznor is by far the most well rounded and self made muisician/artist I have ever had the chance to witness. he has touched upon all facet's/styles of genre's and can play it all......Think kiddies I grew with Sabbath/Sex Pistols....had to listen to the f uckin disco....and then Trent....dude is a die hard musical artist ! This song just has such a sick base line I love it... possibly my favorite song melodically by them and also really love the strange story about being 6 and defying mothers guidance, followed by lyrics about the sunspot it made in his eye and some days forgetting he's alive. The lyrics fit perfectly with the dark funky base line that seems to bounce us along on some self-destructive journey of impending doom as we see him delliberatelly send himself to this doom. "I wanna kill away the rest of what's left, and I do, and I do" *swallows pills*. A literal sabatoge of ones life with no care of dying or living just killing the pain as best he knows how. The beginning lyrics first suggest to us "When I was a little kid, my mother told me not to stare into the sun, so once when I was 6 I did", and the song ends with a 2x repeated chorus ending in "...now I just stare into the sun..." As well as themes of other self destruction both through lyrics and the visual suffering the video shows us and makes us feel. The verse sections of the song transition so perfectly smooth into the chorus without the base line being chopped to shreds with contrasting chorus vocals and electric guitars. Very well arranged piece.

The thing I love best about music is how subjective it is, and how opinions literally mean fuck-all because we all have different tastes and different responses to how we interpret it. Nine Inch Nails has been my favorite band since I was a preteen and got Broken on cassette back in '92 or '93. I obsessively collected Halos growing up, mostly CDs but I still have a handful of cassettes and only a few holes in my vinyl collection. Bootlegs, remixes, unreleased, collabs, covers... You name it. If Trent was involved, I wanted it. NIN has been and always will be my favorite addiction. That being said, I was in my early 20s when With Teeth came out and I was hungry for new material, it had been 6 years since The Fragile came out and though there were a few releases in between (Still, being the most noteworthy, IMO) the hiatus, I can't begin to describe my disappointment the first time I heard The Hand That Feeds. I wasn't expecting the straight forward rock album that With Teeth is, and was anticipating a more soundscapey experimental record. And yeah I know, that's my deal -- you can't, and shouldn't, expect your favorite artists to release new records that are similar to the previous ones. And eventually, With Teeth did grow on me. Though there are still tracks on it that I can live without ever hearing again, I'd say half of it is solid material. You also gotta take into account Trent had just gotten sober and was just in a completely different mindset than he was the past 15 years or so. On top of that, Tool had just released 10,000 Days (which I love) after their own hiatus so maybe my expectations were a bit off. The Hand That Feeds, IMO, was just the wrong choice for the record's first single. The political undertones, the boring video, and that ridiculous keyboard solo just didn't sell me. I was bummed. If you ask me, the Photek Straight remix is far superior. But as before, I continued my Halo obsession. And after explaining how I feel about the song, I literally have like 7 or 8 different versions // formats of THTF single. I feel Only would have been a better introduction to the record, IE, I probably wouldn't have been as put off as I was with THTF. Everyday Is Exactly The Same... sigh. It's one of the few NIN tracks that I despise. There's nothing about that song I find enjoyable. Again, I feel the Sam Fog / Carlos D remix is way better. The Collector also irritates me, and depending on my mood, Getting Smaller usually gets skipped. I ended up remaking the album to fit my tastes -- if you remove Collector, EIETS, and Getting Smaller, and include Home and Non-Entity, while replacing THTF with the Photek Straight mix, the rehearsal version of Love Is Not Enough (again, way fucking better than the album version) that's on the Only single, and the Clint Mansell remix of YKWYA?... you have a far superior album. Hell, you can even squeeze in RWIB v2 in there if you so desire. One thing I didn't take into account back then was, as NIN was a long standing musical influence in my life, With Teeth ended up being an introductory album for a lot of people. Yeah sure, they may have been familiar with songs like Closer or Head Like A Hole, but With Teeth was the first time they listened to a new full length album by NIN so it holds a special place to them, which is something I only recently considered. It's much more accessible than the angry TDS, or the all-over-the-place double CD that is The Fragile. And though there is and electronic side to With Teeth, it isn't nearly as prominent as it is on the previous albums. So all in all, I can see and appreciate both sides of the argument. Jesus, I didn't intend this to be so long. Sorry guys, and kudos to you if you actually read it all. 😋
