especially the push at 3:25 . . . . . sorry but modern groups don't hold a patch to that one !

I played cymbals in the drum line this year. What an incredible experience. The horn line was incredible, and I remember every step on the field. What great memories!!!! I am on the right side kneeling infront of the snare line at 0.27....Rich Garcia travelled with me on the bus this summer. Great memories!

Played 2nd sop that year in this group. Any others here from that year? We had one guy from England named Martin played 1st sop that year. He’s the shortest guy in the featured sop line at the end of this song.

Roger Ludy. I was a 14 yr old baritone player in that line. Incredible experience.

Ahhh, good old corps music. I don't even pay attention to the junk these days. Was this a John Simpson line?
@BruceRichardsonMusic7 жыл бұрын
Yes!! John Simpson was an excellent caption head and educator (and a hell of a player).

John S could get more out of a very young horn line than anyone I had ever seen. Amazing experience

What in the heck does this have to do with an Indonesian Shopping Center? Am I the only one to notice it?

Yes, Bryce was Roger's dad.

Would be nice if Drum Corps still had the Concert Section instead of flying around the field the entire time.

It was indeed a John Simpson horn line, including Roger Luty on Solo sop. I had the privilege of watching Roger mature into the soloist that he was that year. I was blessed to have been allowed to be on the horn staff, contra tech, that summer. Thanks, John.

Roger Luty was one of the all time great soprano soloists in DCI history. His work in Echano was epic. It was an honor to play alongside this guy. One of my all time favorites. Hopefully someone can post the late 1970's version of Sky Ryder"s "Echano". John Simpson was a friggin' genius!

Luty was the top dog for us. Only played the one season ‘81 but can’t forget that guy. Definitely had an impact on my playing from that point forward. Went back to my high school after that summer won 1st chair trumpet and never lost it or was even challenged the next three years. We must have practiced what seemed like 10 hours a day that summer. Never had good natural high range but came back playing triple C’s-G’s went on to a music scholarship after HS and did some playing in the USMC.

I know this piece has been played a lot in DC over the years, but this is one of my favourite versions. Love the solo's by the chap in the glasses. Sweet trill. Anyone know who he is?
@BruceRichardsonMusic7 жыл бұрын
Roger Luty, who was a native of Hutchinson, Kansas.
@MrPhillipABurns4 жыл бұрын
that is what made Sky so unique . . . . . driving through central and western Kansas, who would have ever thought that part of the country had such a great corps. So sad to see them go.

It was amazing how John Simpson could get so much out of a young horn line. I march 1980 and I think the horn line averaged 17-18 year old.

The Guy in the Glasses trumpet solo was Bryan Mahaffey from Webb City Mo.

LOL ! You bet sport. Actually.....the guy in the Glasses SOPRANO solo was Roger Luty.
@BruceRichardsonMusic7 жыл бұрын
Seriously, dude? No, not you. His name is Roger Luty, a Hutchinson, Kansas native...son of Bryce Luty a longtime Kansas jazz educator.
