Y'all arguing about how she used her gofundme money are so gross... she asked for money for her extremely personal journey of transitioning. If you're trans (I am) then you would understand how going on the show was PART of that journey, with the surgeries put on hold. She got them eventually. But its not like donations bought y'all a stake in her body or in her transition. It's NOT the same thing as a gofundme scandal, it's NOT fraud. And it honestly sounds like it was a very intense decision to make, that she ended up mourning after the show aired. It's really gross to blow it up or be mad about it...

But the show is literally called "Drag Race"?! Not "Trans Race"? Why not let cis-women on the show then? Why doesn't Gia and people like you create your OWN reality show! I would watch that! A competition just for Trans?
@geauxienicole73004 жыл бұрын
MaleOrderBride the same reason people like you dont do enough history to acknowledge that without Transwomen, there would be no Drag Race. The same reason ignorant drag race (not drag) fans like you think drag is so specific to chromosomes and gender constructs that you believe ANYone other than Cis men can’t do drag. I never said Cis women shouldn’t be on the show, they should. But im not a Cis woman so I can speak to the plight I actually represent, and acknowledge others, just like a Cis woman can speak her own piece and do the same. People like you always want us to speak for someone else but at the expense of our own inclusion. Terf your arse the hell on with that exclusionary crap.

@Ari Main Once the Harlem Ballroom scene is full of Straight White Men, then we can talk about desegregation!
@babyprincezzz3182 жыл бұрын
@@MaleOrderBride The show is called 'Drag Race' which should include EVERY gender identity, whether cis or trans. The show is NOT called 'Cis Gay Men Drag Race'. Cis gay men DID NOT create or start drag culture. It was BIPOC trans women and trans men (particularly black trans people), let's get some facts straight here. Learn the history little cis gay boy. And yes, cis women SHOULD participate too but the reason why trans women in particular were the main group that was talked about to be included in RPDR was because of Ru's blatant transphobia towards MtF individuals. And NO, trans women and 'people like me' DO NOT need to create our own reality show when Drag Race is showing drag to a mainstream audience but with wrong representation, making the audience believe drag culture is just for cis gay men and every other type of drag or every other gender identity doing drag is invalid. And this right here is the exact issue I have with cis gay men, erasing history and making it all about themselves when in reality y'all DID NOT start Stonewall, y'all DID NOT create drag and no, Marsha P. Johnson was NOT just a drag queen and a man dressed for entertainment, Rupaul, she was also a marvelous trans woman who basically had no other option but BE the forefront in the Gay Rights Liberation movement along with Sylvia Rivera and other beautiful trans women because cis gay men were too afraid. Fortunately now, since last year WoW and RPDR finally understood in their tiny narrow minds that trans people are essential if you plan on showing drag culture to a mainstream audience. Now we have people like Kylie Sonique winning AS6, Gottmik and half the cast of season 14. Idk how genuine WoW and Rupaul are about casting openly trans people but it's a step forward. Cis straight people and a whole lot of cis gay people too have to learn the history behind drag culture and not blindly ignore an important group that contributed the most to drag. That would be like talking about Hip Hop culture and not mentioning black people.

But to be honest that is exactly the problem this is adressing. It would allow more visibility for trans people but in a seperated way. The main point is that trans people and also asexual people are just an active part of the drag community and should be represented as such. They are not a community of their own but family... I feel as long as people dont´t understand this basic issue there s a lot of work to be done in the community as well and not only on this specific TV show.

When a single TV show controls the narrative, this is always the opportunity for someone like Gia to take the bull by the horns, and let people get to know her on the level that the show did not. I'm so glad people are getting to see this side of Gia that I have had the pleasure of seeing the few times that I met her, whether it was at DragCon or at a few events we've crossed paths in LA. I was always wondering why is it that Drag Race is the only representation of Drag. We could use a few new shows that showcase true drag, because Drag Race is a competition series with cis gay men appearing on it. Yes we have Dragula as well, but if we can get 1,000 singing shows, and 1200 dance competition shows, we can get more drag shows. And I'm not just talking about 5,000 Drag Race spinoffs

There are a few things in this interview that just don’t add up for me. No one forced her to spend gofundme money meant for her surgery on drag for All-Stars. To me, that is borderline unethical. People gave their money for the very legitimate and important cause of helping Gia feel more comfortable in her own skin. They didn’t give money so she could buy gowns and jewelry for a tv show. If I was a donor, I would be upset honestly. The other thing that is really frustrating is her crying over how she came off on the show. Look, is there editing trickery that goes on? Of course. But they can’t use editing to turn you from the hero into a villain, and that’s just the fact of the matter. Gia’s actions on Snatch Game alone were obnoxious, petty, and unprofessional, and I think she probably realized that watching it back and is trying to make herself the victim instead of just apologizing for her poor behavior.

As a non-binary person who definitely falls under the trans umbrella because of how much I had to learn and explore about my identity, so much of what she says about her journey resonates. I love her point about not asking too many questions about transitioning and knowing that a ‘timeline’ is NOT set in stone. The trans energy matching your brain is such a powerful message!! I feel so much, and, so sorry for Gia. I think this is a pure ass depiction of how going to a reality show is. First you get exposed to the public, you may also say to all the world, you start being afraid that people will be able to see beyond the curtain that you put to protect yourself, you begin to be afraid of feeling, of showing, of being you, because of how much the spotlight's on you; because in these type of shows you become an object to be consumed by the public, your complex human characteristics get thrown away to leave you as only what they see on the screen. Second, in this particular case, the idols you so wanted to meet end up being absolutely devoted to winning money and making the ratings of the show go higher by making as much drama as posible, by making a narrative in which you become the villain to play the role they want to in the show, again, reaping you off of the whole human being you are and only leaving the aspects that they can exploit. Third of all, at the end, you end up so afraid, so incapable of overcoming what you went through that it takes months to recover from it, to be able to accept yourself and understand that all the things that happened to you were part of the business you ended up on. I think she's really alike to Pearl as well, that's why i like them both. I hope she can find peace within herself :/.

With everything happening, people in all our communitys need visibility. Such a vulnerability Gia brought us at this critical time to help and save people's lives! So Ru doesnt talk to her on set? Then sends her home after 3 episodes, and drops her from the roster. Fracking Ru not supporting her interview confessionals equals editing improperly. Influencing future careers of sisters like Gia also while ommitting many other sisters and brothers in our community. Gia wants us to know our presence is valid. Our existence is valid. I love this interview. What I think is, maybe the first 3 seasons, the show WAS inclusive, you saw a lot of heart AND the winners were more diverse. But once the show became mainstream, it catered itself to a broader audience, you started to see how they classify colored queens and how they’re being portrayed. The Viewers of drag race aren’t drag fans, they’re drag race fans, which are younger people, more straight cis girls who think they have an opinion about drag after watching 2 episodes. The fandom became toxic, so on and so on... I mean they had to double crowned queens after the backlash of their all stars winners are so white. It is problematic for sure, but also it’s one of the only platform that featured LGBT+ people. And I can thank it for that.

I don't understand why people love her so much. Being trans does not automatically make you a good person. Why does she think she's entitled to have special attention on Drag Race, and why does she think that she's entitled to RuPaul's approval? She's whiny, self centered, and obnoxious, not to mention incredibly mean. Me, me, me, me. That's the only thing she cares about. Don't even get me started on that annoying whiny voice of hers. If you want REAL trans representation, go watch Pose on Netflix.

As a transindividual hearing all this meant so much, what you have done and are doing. Not to mention how you are spreading the info about no trans journey being the same. I spent years trying to just fit into society and pass but that wasn’t me, I don’t fit in with other guys I am androgynous and gender noncomforming, because fashion is far more interesting than being stuck with loose jeans and a t-shirt, I shop where I want, I use makeup when I want. When the dysphasia gets bad it is something I regret but only for a short while until I take the time on creating a look, only then am I truly comfortable and confident. Far too few trans people can be seen in mainstream media and even in our own community and it is horrifying. You turn that xenophobia that people have given to you by people outside the community and turn it on others inside it because they don’t conform to your standards. I am extremely grateful for Gia fighting for trans people like this and continuing doing what she loves even after everything she has been through.

That is EXACTLY why people CANNOT watch a TV show and, just because they say it's "Reality TV", believe that people portrayed on this show are just who they see. No, girl. People DO change. People go through shit. People learn. People get bad edits. We don't get the context and we blatantly label people just because we "have the impression" they said something rude. You know? This has got to stop.

So when did Gia and Ru have this confrontation? Twitter or on the show but it was cut or behind the scenes?

She even she refrains from giving us full details. Is she not able to?

Wow ! Good for Gia for speaking her truth. We need to listen and step our and advocate for our community especially when this misinformation and misrepresentation is coming from one of our own. Say Love But Mean it. Love is a Verb.

It is so good to hear Gia's side of the story. Indeed, the way she was portrayed on both of her seasons wasn't very likable. But it is always important to remember that there is framing involved in every media outlet. It is important to always be open to different sides of a story.

TBH I wanted MORE of her on the All Stars! She made that season!

I always love coming to your channel to see the queens in their own light and not on the show since like Gia, a lot of times their portrayals are inaccurate to who they really are. I’m so glad you have Gia this opportunity and voice

I agree with Gia that being trans is a state of mind, but I do think that it is a state of being. I’m Agender, meaning I don’t recognize any gender label as suitable for me. But, I also identify as trans because I suffer from body dysmorphia because of my looking predominantly male. So my trans identity is directly linked to how I look. But that is just my personal journey.

Is the fact that she used the gofundme for drag race problematic? If the money was intended for surgery, and that’s what people thought they were donating for...seems a little bit murky.

Eric M it already happened like two years ago, don’t make some drama about that now 🙄🙄 it’s enough lol

Guillermo Martinez but has she ever revealed that before? Cuz it’s still scamming even if it was years ago lmao
@guillermomartinez99224 жыл бұрын
Christian Dorr are you affected by it? She got her transition eventually, and if the people who donated would like their money back they could definitely object, other than that stop creating bs drama for no reason 🙄🙄

It seems like about the same category of thing as donating to an animal shelter, saying ‘spend this on the animals!’, and then being annoyed when they invest the money in the stock market as a source of income so they can spend more money on their animals? Money is fungible, she wasn’t lying about wanting to fully transition, and she did eventually fully transition, I don’t see an issue.

I love Gia, but I'm confuse with this whole trans saga. We have Monica who came out as trans, Peppermint who is a trans women when she was on the show..NO hate..Just really confuse

I think the distinction some made was that they weren't openly trans when being accepted to the show? I have no idea. that detail confuses me as well.
@xx-zp4mj4 жыл бұрын
yeah its because shes the only person CASTED AS and presenting as a trans woman. like there was no ruveal about it or anything whilst every other contestant admitted it throughout the show. arguably pep had already started transitioning for exemple, but she didn’t present herself as such from the beginning wether they asked her to or not.

Like many drags:Transgender or cis say between lines : Rupaul is not tolerant. Old. Not a good example. Take him out from "his" race, time for retirement. Put someone lovely and who loves drag so he/she can host the drag race, open to all genders finally. I just add: just do it SOOOOOOON! So Joseph, after the interview do you believe in milk and cookies 🍪 ? Great interview but long af. Love Gia and her history, but her bestie is my idollll can you interview Laganja? 🖤🍪🖤🍪
