I have this disc! One of Scelsi's more accessible works in my opinion. Here's my obligatory Ives quote: “Beauty in music is too often confused with something that lets the ear lie back in an easy chair. Many sounds that we are used to do not bother us, and for that reason we are inclined to call them beautiful. Frequently-possibly almost invariably-analytical and impersonal test will show that when a new or unfamiliar work is accepted as beautiful on its first hearing, its fundamental quality is one that tends to put the mind to sleep.” ― Charles Ives

This music is’nt absolutely sumptuous. Poverty of melodic discourse, absent harmonies, orchestration without renewal in its use of sound timbres, in short a painful noisiest architecture without flashes, nor apparent ambition. But it is undoubtedly a secret desire of the composer?!?

I have to find myself agreeing with you on most of what you say. I have listened to a few of this composers' works and get the impression that he writes only for himself. This is not necessarily a bad thing as long as audiences can connect with it. Scelsi's lack of public performances and overall neglect since his death seems to suggest that this connection hasn't been fulfilled.

Ondrej Vesely There is nothing against sonic art..... the difference with music is, that in music, the relationships between the notes and the intervals form an 'inner space' within the work in which an energetic dynamic can flow, creating a narrative and a structure with meaningful beginning, middle, end, or anything like this, in short: a form in time where the different episodes articulate the overall form. With sonic art, anything can follow anything, and the character is static, and form random. It is like witnessing a natural process, which can begin or stop at any moment without a structural articulation. It is like the difference between a painting with an image carefully structured to convey something, and pattern making as found in nature.

John Appleseed I know, life is very difficult isn't it? Ad hominum attacks are the last resort of people who have no arguments. By the way, there is sonic art I really like, Feldman's for instance. Now I think about it, that is the only sonic art I like. Most of it is merely decorative, and music is so much more interesting and compelling.
