Not enough is written on how Giallo impacted American cinema in the 1980s. The color and feel of 1980s Hollywood was our take on Italian Giallo whether we realize it or not. FYI- The best thing about only recently discovering this wonderful channel is there is tons of content for me to catch up on every weekend. Its all NEW to me!!

Another indispensable documentary, and thank you for it. I only discovered giallo films a few years ago and fell in love with (most of) them. The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh might be my favourite, Don't Torture a Duckling the most brutal ... and such soundtracks! But enough of that; I'm going to enjoy the rest of this meticulously constructed video.

Just watched strange vice of Mrs ward- superb giallo. Try Fulcis Lizard in a Woman's Skin, house with laughing windows and what have you done to solingen- they are corkers. Well scripted, well acted, well directed and a lounge music to die for. Enjoyed Duckling immensely. I am a fan of Florinda Bolkan and like Fenech think they are some of the most beautiful women to grace the silver screen. The lounge soundtracks are out of this world. Truly. Enjoy the documentary and stay tuned..... 🦀

@@LOOKLOOKLOOKAGAIN- absolutely loved the video, and the use of the soundtracks (I didn't recognise the terrific piece repeated in the segways). The House With Laughing Windows is another favourite, and Death Walks on High Heels too. What Have They Done to Solange features as it's hero a bloke (Fabio Testi) who shuns his wife and tries to have sex with his students. What a *******! And yet somehow, by the end of the film, we have grown to like him! I like films that take risks like that. A superb documentary I'll be watching again. It has everything - even Kissing The Pink on the soundtrack! 👍 Love it.

@naparry4772 Hi - the segueway piece is a snippet from Giallo a Venezia. Am going to remaster and upload it tomorrow - it's awesome it doesn't go with the film but as giallos themselves are sometimes undefining and that's what makes them so smashing. 🦀

By Jove this is an excellent documentary 👍 Well done C. A. for putting together this superb look at gialli so effectively! If only we could watch something like this on the mainstream but sadly I can imagine that if the BBC these days did a programme about Spaghetti horror films, no doubt fronted by the likes of Kermode, it would degenerate into woke nonsense and fail to appreciate the subject matter. By contrast, your intelligent approach and passion for the genre shines through. Inspired and inspiring! Ps my fave film of this genre is probably Deep Red 👌

Thank you so much. The mainstream is to be ignored now sadly. Its the sort of thing channel 4 would've shown back in the day. Thank god for You Tube ! It gives these films and fans a voice so they never fade. I adore deep red, it has everything, am , and always have been, a fan of Argento. Other Giallos I love, non Argento are 'Death Walks at Midnight', 'Lizard in a Woman's Skin', 'Torso' and 'What Have You Done to Solange', recently watched 'Eye in the Labyrinth' and enjoyed every minute. I am hoping to discover more as I share them with you. Also like 'New York Ripper' and I have a guilty pleasure 'Giallo a Venezia' the 'scissor' sequence is suitably the vilest and spiteful demise I have seen for any victim in a giallo not to mention the 'infamous' leg scene. Stay tuned and hope you enjoy the journey with me. Yours 🦀

Excellent intro to giallo cinema. I love Argento's work, like Profondo Rosso (Deep Red).etc.. I think Goblin did the soundtrack to that film as well as Suspiria. Was that them at 49:02?

That was a quick upload, since you told me you were doing this documentary. I define giallo as "psychological slasher mysteries," as I believe that is the simplest definition that can be used and still state the essence of the genre. Maybe unbeknownst to you, but a cinematic influence on giallo was the German krimi genre from the 1950s-1960s. OK, random thoughts now, with no attempt to be poetic in expression. I loved Fenech with the butchy short hair in Strip Nude... Am I alone? Spaniards made a bunch of giallo type films. I call them amarillos, which is Spanish for yellow. I seem to stand alone, though, in this. Nieves Navarro/Susan Scott is the most underrated actress in giallos, and damn fine looking. I have all the accoutrements to play a giallo killer (black trench coat, black leather gloves, black fedora). I also own four T-shirts that say giallo and have graphics to suit them. The progressive rock oriented soundtracks of many of these movies is a genre in and of itself. Ivan Rassimov was born to play in the genre. Sergio Martino was as good as Dario Argento. I can be an annoying person. The sexual aspect of these films was usually well done. OK, I'll leave you with a pat on the back, as I await another installment. Too bad there were no murders with a broken J&B bottle. Too bad Linda Marlowe never starred in a giallo. She had the look for it. Take care

I was working on it gradually and piece by piece - I am pleased I got this out for the weekend/bank holiday (it is in the U.K). I enjoy the Krimi films and can certainly see the correlation and totally agree with the psych slasher mysteries point you make but some giallo is debateable depending on differing opinions and its quite difficult to differenciate between stalk and slash - Giallo's perfect stablemate but I guess stalk and slash is more in the wake of halloween. We have a lot to thank Hitchcock for. I love your terminology for the Spanish giallo - Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll being a gem and Cannibal Man, which I love. I tried to focus mainly on the Italian genre for this documentary bar the ending but hope to branch out more on some giallo further afield. I think I will start on the films that help define the genre to start with. Am always surprised what I unearth and share. I would imagine your giallo outfit looks awesome. As a homage, in the winter, I treated myself many moons ago to a pair of black leather gloves and a cut throat razor both I use but not, you'll be pleased to know, to strangle, murder or slash fortunately - although have been pushed to contemplate it 😀. Humans really do try my patience. Marlow would have been exceptional, and so would Linda Hayden or even at a push Stephanie Beacham. I guess Hayden got close to it in Expose, which fits in with the giallo mode, but she excelled in other UK horror and exploitation. I mainly review my favourites of the horror genre. However, I may stumble across giallo that I am not enamoured with, so as long as it's constructive, I'll cover some of these, too. The difficulty is that although, like my Hammer-a-thon , I treasure some, there were ones I wasn't so keen on however I always manage to find something to redeem its flaws. Going to have a small break then commence with the giallo and I am looking forward to it immensely. Oh and I am dumbfounded why a broken J&B bottle as the weapon has never been used either - a damn fine point made. Take care. Best 🦀.

@@LOOKLOOKLOOKAGAIN "Humanoidals," as I call most people, make me wish for Godzilla to appear quite often, while thinking of the old tune by Blue Oyster Cult. Hayden and Beacham would definitely have been fitting. Expose was essentially a giallo, and damn fun ride. I know Hayden hates it, but, frankly, who cares. As for British actors, Ian Ogilvy would have been just right, me thinks. Denholm Elliot in a supporting role, maybe? David Warner? He was weird, so he may have been a fit. Kind of a less evil looking, but weirder Ivan Rassimov. As a side note, I am so-so on Hammer films, but I am a fan of the old Amicus anthologies. The Warner one in From Beyond The Grave gave me my fascination with mirrors. Hey, now that I think of it, Brigitte Lahaie would have been great in one of the sexier giallo films. Too bad there wasn't a Psychomania II - Return of the Frog. Take it easy.

Edwige Fenech smashes every film she's in (in my opinion), I adore her. So beautiful and demur with a hint of Audrey Hepburn. That trailer/montage for 5 Dolls becomes a trippy moody masterpiece with that music, psychedelic sitar is so evocative.

Thank you. I overlayed the music as the original track wasn't that good so dug out my sitar beats album and twiddled and was pleasently surprised at the result. I agree about Fenech, she was beautiful and nailed hysteria perfectly and in some films I would expect most would be the same. Love giallo - always will. 🦀
