Giancarlo Stanton is originally from So Cal and graduated from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High School. He was a 3 sport athlete who excelled in football as well (recruited by USC). A well known sportswriter in the area named Eric Sondheimer still refers to him as the greatest player he's covered in all of So Cal sports. Stanton does not come from money, which is very odd today in high school elite athletes who typically have at least one private coach to develop them in one or many aspects of his game. Stanton's father in fact is a USPS postman. His mother I believe is Puerto Rican. He's revered at SO Notre Dame (I'm a grad but many years before him) and Stanton gives back to the high school in many different ways, including financially.
