More about Gianmarco:
Gianmarco Soresi is a stand-up comedian, actor, and a little too much for some people. He’s told jokes on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Comedy Central, Netflix’s Bonding, Don’t Tell, The Real Housewives of New York for some reason, and he was a JFL New Face in 2022. He’s acted in Billy Crystal’s Here Today, Hustlers, The Last OG, and in his theater days shared the stage with some people who’ve gone on to become huge real estate agents. You can see him post the kind of crowdwork clips that are arguably destroying the artform of stand-up comedy everywhere @gianmarcosoresi and he obviously has a podcast called The Downside with Gianmarco Soresi.🎤

The problem with opinions by taxi drivers is, often you are not in a good position to disagree with them, since you need them to drive you somewhere without jeopardizing your safety or money. That might be the reason why a lot of people just listen and dont talk back, and in turn the taxi drivers think their opinions and theories are valid and are not ashamed to spread them more. It is a vicious cycle!

Oh man. I guess I've just been really lucky with Lyft drivers. Heck, one time a guy picked me up from the dentist so he told me about his dad who became a dentist and wanted him to become one but he was like... that's not for me. Apparently his dad literally used his skills in dentistry to move his family from Peru to the US. Dude just knew all this stuff about Peru, so we had a rad conversation about history, culture, and potatoes. Potatoes were a big deal, apparently. I freaking adored this dude. I wish I could've kept talking to him. Is it weird to want to give your Lyft driver your number or Discord tag? ...yeah. Probably. Peruvian Potato Lyft Guy, I still think about you! Few years ago my Uber driver dropped me off at my therapy appointment. An hour later I step outside of the building to wait for my new Uber and i hear my name being called. It's the driver who initially dropped me off. His dentist's office was in the same building so he decided to come up and pay his dentist's office a visit while i was in my appointment? Then he waited around? I was like... This is maybe dangerous. But I still got in the car. Which btw locked from the outside so he had to open it for me to get in and out. He said it used to be a cop car. Anyways. In the end I got home okay.

Ugh the struggles of not turning down someone for fear of making them feel unhappy or awkward despite the yellow or red alerts blaring danger warnings in your mind. Definitely entered a car despite my best efforts to warn myself how bad of an idea it was 😓 Glad you made it back safely! Honestly, I wish people who want to do nice things out of their way for strangers would read the situation better (from the perspective of their the recipient) and how sometimes it's just a scary experience even if they mean well 😖 Not saying strangers shouldn't go out of their way to be nice, obvs, but seems like it's typically men, especially white cishet men, who have a hard time recognizing what situations are red flags and generally unsafe stranger scenarios for folks who don't unmistakably share their demographic and how it might make others feel uncomfortable and anxious 😩

Why don't you just say you aren't interested in a political conversation, and if they keep pushing, give them a shit rating. The whole terrible app-based service has already given you a tool to deal with this, so just grow a backbone and tell a person you aren't interested.

I get where you’re coming from, but at least for me as a woman if a strange guy whose car I’m in starts angrily spouting MAGA bullshit I’m not pushing it; who knows what the guy could do. I don’t think you’re changing his mind in a five min car ride anyway

Eh it should be normal to engage in civil argument or at least challenging engagement. Truly one of best things for humans on either side of an issue, so long as it remains civil. A taxi ride is one of the better places for it to happen to be real, given the factors at play in that interaction. Of course you’d have to be good at controlling your rhetoric, but that’s true if damn near any conversation, especially those in taxis

wtf is civil about hateful tirades attacking minorities 💀
@JackBlackNinja

@@edithputhy4948 best way to get to them is through shrude argument, especially tactfully enough that you literally understand theirs such that you can do the best job at getting through to them. Otherwise you escalate in a way that probably feeds the discord. Which is exactly what you don’t want, as natural and human as it might be.

You not changing anybody mind in 15 minutes car ride bro. It's pointless.
@JackBlackNinja

@@colinnixon7739 as much as I love to talk and argue for way longer than 15 mins, you’ll notice so many people start tapping out maybe even before 15 mins. It blows. And especially if you keep things normal and civil, you can get in and out quicker easier. Yeah if you ever manage to change someone’s mind it’s probably a ton of different types of interactions less than 15 mins each that chip away over time
